Katie Moore

Recorded and mixed at Montreal’s Hotel2Tango and Treatment Room, Montebello is the follow up to Katie Moore’s 2007 debut Only Thing Worse. Layering soul influences and lush instrumentation into a haunting sound, Montebello defies quick categorization. Lying somewhere in the no-man’s-land between folk, alt-country, bluegrass, and Americana each song is built around a persuasive simplicity and anchored by the voice of an uncompromising songstress.

The musicians that perform and record with Katie include some of Montreal’s finest: Warren C. Spicer and Matthew Woodley (Plants and Animals), Josh Dolgin (Socalled), Chilly Gonzales, Joe Grass, Dave Payant (Silver Mt. Zion), and Mike O’Brien. She and her troupe of instrument toting friends have played at SXSW, Hillside Music Fest, and Dawson City Music Fest; and supported Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Iris Dement, Socalled, and Plants and Animals.  Her collaborations swing both ways. Katie’s natural, effortless timbre has been sought out as accompaniment by renowned artists as diverse as Feist, Patrick Watson, Chilly Gonzales, Plants and Animals, and Socalled.

Katie’s debut album Only Thing Worse was nominated for Quebec’s GAMIQ Awards, a MIMI (Montreal Independent Music Initiative) Award, and has held a steady place on College radio charts. The original song “Rush Enough” was nominated for SOCAN’s ECHO Songwriter Prize.

After an innovative and very successful Kickstarter.com campaign to raise funds to complete and put out the album, Montebello will be self-released on Katie’s own imprint Purple Cat Records. With tour plans being laid throughout 2011, Katie Moore has a song or two coming your way.
