SINGLE OUT NOW WITH 7" PICTURE DISC VIA BOILED RECORDS
PROCEEDS DONATED TO EARTHJUSTICE
Absolutely Free has released its cover of the classic "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore" in honour of today's solar eclipse. The Toronto 'astro-beat' trio gives a celestial tint to the song originally recorded by Frankie Valli in 1965 and later popularized by The Walker Brothers. This version for August 21, 2017 is auspicious and serene, tape degraded yet futuristic, shot skyward by starry synthesizers, cavernous bass, shimmering highs, and Matt King's atmospheric vocals.
The single is out now digitally and available for purchase as an extremely limited 7" picture disc from Toronto-Philadelphia label Boiled Records.
Proceeds will be donated to Earthjustice, a non-profit environmental law organization that protects natural resources and promotes healthy communities.
Absolutely Free is the Toronto group of Michael Claxton, Matt King, and Moshe Rozenberg. Their 2014 self-titled debut was touted as a "deep-space cosmic-rock odyssey" (Pitchfork) and "an absolute triumph of a debut" (Exclaim!). The band is known for its unparalleled live performances, as seen on tours with Alvvays, Viet Cong, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Holy Fuck, and more. Its resumé of visual art and multimedia projects includes everything from holographic concerts to live film scoring and soundtracks. Absolutely Free is currently recording its sophomore record with producer Jorge Elbrecht (Ariel Pink, Tamryn, Lansing-Dreiden).
