White & Gold Album Art by Brian Bosch // DOWNLOAD HIGH-RES
Over the past few weeks and months, Danny Michel has been releasing one song at a time from his upcoming six track album. With three tracks already released we’ve reached the halfway mark, and so it seems time to reveal that the album, White & Gold, will be out on October 12 on all streaming platforms and on CD and 10” vinyl.
Today, just in time for back-to-school, Danny is sharing a stripped down version of an old song, inspired by the school kids who’ve been covering it over the years. “Nobody Rules You” was originally released on Matadora (2016), but since that record came out multiple schools have performed it almost as an anthem for a new generation. (Watch a Quebec School perform the song here).
“Nobody Rules You” was “probably the most simple song I’ve ever written but had a big band production,” says Danny. “Soon after I was surprised by people sending me videos of lots of schools performing the song. It really seemed to strike a chord with them and people are always asking if there is a stripped down simpler recording of it. I’ve always called those the campfire versions.”
Along with the new ‘campfire version’ of “Nobody Rules You” is a video of Danny performing the song at the campfire, in black and white. “As stripped down as it gets,” says Danny.
Thus far, Danny has released “Born In The Wild”, a song for the brave kids of the #neveragain and #marchforourlives movement, the 50s ‘Doo-Wop’ inspired “The Red Fox”, and the dreamy, fuzzed out “Purgatory Cove”. All of which will be included on White & Gold, officially released on October 12, and accompanied by a wonderful wood carved cover created by artist Brian Bosch.

Recently, Danny launched Season 5 of Dan’s Space Van, a mobile web-series filmed inside a customized 1978 Chevy Vandura, airbrushed in a Star Trek theme. The Show travels the world, meets interesting people and features musical guests who perform in the Van’s diamond quilted, crushed red velvet interior. So far, Season 5 has seen performances by Joel Plaskett, Skye Wallace, and Bahamas.
