Having just wrapped up a successful run of Canadian tour dates, Hamilton outfit Basement Revolver are sharing their striking new video for "Baby" ahead of their October UK tour supporting Amber Arcades. "Baby" was one of the lead-singles from their recent album Heavy Eyes, which came out last month via Sonic Unyon - the track made Amazon UK’s Week One, and was added to Apple’s Nightcap playlist as well as Spotify’s Indie Highlights. Album cut “Dancing” has made its way up CBC Radio 3’s Top 30, while the LP has been in Earshot’s Top 5 for several weeks.

Weaving melancholia with fuzzy dreamy pop melodies and a heavy guitar undercurrent, lead-singer Chrisy Hurn shares intimate stories and personal wounds from her past, revealing a deeply affecting and rewarding insight. The video follows Chrisy on a journey and with visibly expressive and emotive delivery. She explains more about the song:

“I feel a lot of emotions, sometimes annoyingly so. ‘Baby’ is about feeling sad and down even though you are generally happy about everything and everyone in your life. It’s about feeling confused about what I want in life, and how that affects other people. It is about crying a lot and feeling like I was burdening my partner with those questions (even though he has always been completely sorry) and not wanting him to feel like he was the source of my anxiety. It is also about my tendency to retreat when things get too overwhelming, to spend all day and night in my bed and watching Netflix and eating Doritos.”

The trio of Chrisy Hurn (vocals, guitar), Nimal Agalawatte (bass, synth), and Brandon Munro (drums) hail from Hamilton and their ascent to the spotlight has been a steady trajectory. They were signed by Memphis Industries’ UK sub-label Fear Of Missing Out, who released their debut self-titled EP in 2016, which included breakout track “Johnny”, which is also a highlight of their debut full-length Heavy Eyes, which has garnered critical acclaim and support from CBC Radio 3, Campus/Community Radio across Canada, and BBC Radio 6Music.

Assured yet open, beguiling yet honest, heartfelt yet playful. In a relatively short time, Basement Revolver have successfully encapsulated the yearning and hopefulness of their generation, whilst harnessing a unique, yet familiar soundscape.

Hamilton indie-rock trio Basement Revolver share the title track from their debut album, Heavy Eyes, which encapsulates the air of weariness pervading the band’s sound. The sleepy title “Heavy Eyes” sums up a general exhaustion right down to the bone, as well as hinting at a heavier direction as they deftly merge 90s infused indie rock with fuzzy dreamy pop and poignant, yearning lyrics. As songwriter and singer Chrisy Hurn explains, “‘Heavy Eyes’ is about feeling really tired. And life is hard when you are really tired.”

The trio of Chrisy Hurn (vocals, guitar), Nimal Agalawatte (bass, synth), and Brandon Munro (drums) embarked on their first tour of the UK earlier this year, with a tremendous set at The Great Escape Festival. Next month the band returns home to Hamilton for Supercrawl before embarking on a string of Ontario tour dates. Full dates can be found below.

Previous single "Baby" has been made Amazon UK’s Week One, added to Apple’s Nightcap playlist, and Spotify’s Indie Highlights. While "Knocking" was added to New Music Friday Canada, and New Alternative and Melancholy Moods on Deezer. The single “Dancing” was premiered by Clash, who wrote, “the delicacy of the band's approach is matched to the intensity of their execution." “Johnny Pt. 2” was recently included on Line Of Best Fit’s Oh! Canada 31 compilation, highlighting the best new music from Canada.

Their ascent to the spotlight has been a steady trajectory, capitalising on the success of their debut single “Johnny” in 2016. The track garnered endorsements from DIY Magazine and Exclaim! as well as respected tastemakers Gold Flake Paint, who hailed it a “favourite song of the year” contender.

For their debut full-length, the Basement Revolver returned to local studio TAPE where they had recorded both their EPs. Having developed a solid relationship with producers Adam Bentley and Jordan Mitchell, they continued to hone their signature sound, finding the freedom to get heavier for some songs and more laid-back for others. As Hurn explains; “It also gave me the confidence as a writer to not take myself so seriously, to let myself get cheesy or goofy with some songs.”

In a relatively short time, Basement Revolver have successfully encapsulated the yearning and hopefulness of their generation, whilst harnessing a unique, yet familiar soundscape.

“Dancing” is the new single to be taken from the album Heavy Eyes by hotly tipped Hamilton indie rock trio Basement Revolver. An up tempo but still heavy-lidded fuzz pop number, the song is about confronting feelings of boredom with a cry for adventure.

As singer Chrisy Hurn explains; “When I’m feeling down, I like to borrow a car and drive until I am lost – it makes me feel better and distracts me a little. So, yeah, break out of your shell and dance… or get some fresh air.”

Blending 90s-infused indie rock with fuzzy dreamy pop and poignant, yearning lyrics, Basement Revolver have honed a sound that is capable of stripping listeners of inhibition, yet heavy hitting enough to leave a lasting impression. Unable to disguise the emotion in her voice, songwriter Chrisy Hurn shares intimate stories and personal wounds from her past. The band is rounded out by Nimal Agalawatte on bass and Brandon Munro on drums.
