Thanksgiving happened, but Laurie Brown’s fridge is still feeling it. On Pondercast Episode 50 : Plenitude, its that fridge that is the inspiration for this episode. You know that feeling when you open the door and see your fridge packed with good food? We start there. Let’s feel full together.

Pondercast’s Moon Merge event in partnership with The Bentway was a major highlight for Joshua Van Tassel and Laurie Brown. Over 8000 people crowded under the Gardiner Expressway in Toronto to see Luke Jerram’s Museum of the Moon and listen to a live Pondercast and ChoirChoirChoir!!!, Bernice and Rich Aucoin. Check out this one minute film Pondercast made of the night.

PONDERCAST EPISODE 49: THE RHEOSTATICS

Screen Shot 2019-10-04 at 8.34.38 AM.png

After a 15 year hiatus, The Rheostatics have a new album, Here Come the Wolves. Produced by Chris Stringer, it’s a beauty. It has everything we’ve come to expect from a Rheos record; bite and humour, and soaring, expansive musical vistas. Their sound has been described as “orchestral psychedelia”, which makes sense to me.

On Pondercast Episode 49, you will hear Laurie Brown’s interview with Tim Vesely, Dave Bidini, Dave Clark and Martin Tielli which happened in front of a roomful of Rheo fans at Sonic Boom in Toronto at the record release. And you’ll hear tracks from the new album.

PONDERCAST EPISODE 48: MOON MERGE

EP 48 Banner with Title.png

Episode 48 of Laurie Brown’s Pondercast is a live recording of the episode from Moon Merge at The Bentway in Toronto on September 14th - the night of the full Harvest Moon. Moon Merge was created by Laurie and The Bentway so that Toronto could experience Luke Jerram’s Museum of the Moon - an exact replica of the moon, 7 metres in diameter, lit from within.

It was hung underneath the Gardiner Expressway in Toronto. “The idea of presenting Pondercast with this moon as the backdrop, sent ME to the moon,” says Laurie.

“So it was a perfect night to wax on about the moon. Which we did for about 8,000 people. Joining Joshua Van Tassel and myself on stage was Michael Eckert on pedal steel guitar. They stirred up a mesmerizing musical atmosphere for us all. Moon Merge will take you to the moon and back - as we contemplate how we experience nature living in a big city -and up on our planetary satellite.”

Moon Merge also featured performance by Choir! Choir! Choir!, Bernice and a special silent disco set by Rich Aucoin. The Bentway is an innovative public space project underneath Toronto’s Gardiner Expressway and has now announced its Fall 2019 programming calendar under the theme Second Nature. From September to November 2019, The Bentway will bring together artists, community activists, urbanists, scientists and innovators to explore ways urban dwellers can reconnect to the natural world.
