Tei Shi (aka, Valerie Teicher) is in the midst of her massive North American fall tour with a string of Western Canadian tour dates this week. To celebrate the run of shows, she has dropped her new video for "Say You Do".

NPR premiered it as a First Watch, describing the video saying, "The clip follows Teicher riding around in a neon-lit limousine as manifestations of her various personas dance beside her, pushing up against the walls of the car and climbing over each other in crowded chaos. Bell says the limo represents an alternate reality in which she's removed from the pressures of modern life."

The video's directors, Bradley Bell and Pablo Jones-Soler, took some time to chat with NPR about the video. Bell spoke on the limo in the video, saying it "represents an alternate reality in which she's removed from the pressures of modern life. "It's a safe space where things can be complicated," Bell says. "Inside, she's allowed to explore all the different sides of her childhood, her influences, her art, and really blossom."

Tei Shi describes the video to NPR in her own words saying, "There's this idea that if you change, or evolve, or dare to be complicated, you're in authentic, but I'm a chameleon, I'm always evolving," she said. "There's power in saying, 'I have many versions of myself and I can tap into whatever I want.'"

2017 has been a huge year for the artist, debuting Crawl Space to critical acclaim, touring the world and receiving rave reviews for her fresh and dynamic take on pop music. All tour dates are listed below.

Crawl Space is out now on Arts & Crafts.

PRAISE FOR CRAWL SPACE

"The spindly compositions that Valerie Teicher records as Tei Shi are fierce in their modesty, making spare use of whispered high notes and loud screams."   The New Yorker

"Tei Shi may have been a long time coming, but "Keep Running" feels like the debut of an artist properly establishing her musical identity with plenty of potential for success." V Magazine

"Swooning synth-pop and the latter's psychedelic soul" Stereogum

“Her gorgeous voice projects confidently as she explores deep yet relatable autobiographical themes, while her instrumentals deconstruct pop and R&B like a more polished Evy Jane or a less eccentric Grimes.” Georgia Straight

“Utterly shattering the expectations of a first release, this nearly perfect album brings the pop revelation you didn’t know you needed, with more clever tricks and memorable moments than many late career releases.” Northern Transmissions

"Prepare your roommates for the impromptu karaoke sessions you'll be having to this song all year long." Cosmopolitan, 25 Albums to Obsess Over in 2017

"'Crawl Space' draws the focus in on Tei Shi's compelling and sultry vocals like
never before" Clash Magazine

"Tei Shi's acrobatic vocals shine once again on "How Far,"... The track - which pairs gut-wrenching lyrics like "If it pleases you to see me struggle/ I will" with dreamy guitars and buzzing production - explores the thin line between love and destruction.
And it'll stick with you."  FADER

""Keep Running," a silky slip of R&B pop, a little Jesse Ware, a little Solange. The video, directed by Agostina Gálvez, which you can watch below, features the Colombian-born singer back to brunette, in various satiny numbers, curving her body with the sensual ease with which she delivers her melodies."  Noisey

Tei Shi has been non stop since releasing her critically acclaimed debut album this spring via Arts & Crafts, touring and wowing crowds around the world with her distinctly sensual brand of R&B pop. The New York Times recently included her in their "30 Under 30" special, Billboard named Crawl Space as one of the Top 50 Albums of 2017 So Far, and The New Yorker also featured her, writing, "The spindly compositions that Valerie Teicher records as Tei Shi are fierce in their modesty, making spare use of whispered high notes and loud screams." Tei Shi will be hitting the road later this year for her first cross Canada tour, all dates are listed below.

Crawl Space was written and recorded over a year and a half, the album traces a much wider arc, from Tei Shi's earliest musical explorations to this, her first long player. Growth is never easy, though, and if the title makes the process sound difficult, even claustrophobic, that's because it was. In fact, there is a palpable physicality surrounding this record, and it reveals itself everywhere: from the album's song titles - “Keep Running,” “Lift Me” – to its rhythms, to its astonishing cover art. Constant motion is a fact of life. A real, physical crawl space fits only one person and demands that person move forward, out and through it. Tei Shi's debut evokes that feeling and the experience of centering oneself, changing focus.

Born in Buenos Aires, Valerie Teicher (aka Tei Shi) spent her childhood in Argentina and Colombia before moving to Vancouver and Montreal, cultivating a strong artistic sensibility from a young age. During her studies at Massachusetts' Berklee College of Music she began to realize her full potential as a performer, and by the time she moved to New York City after graduation, the Tei Shi project was born.

Tei Shi is the moniker of Buenos Aires-born, Brooklyn-based Valerie Teicher. Following a string of vivacious and critically lauded performances on tour with MØ, Tei Shi is releasing her eagerly anticipated full length Crawl Space today via Arts & Crafts. An impressive and accomplished debut, Crawl Space, has one of the most engaging and dynamic releases of the year so far.

In case you missed the "How Far" video, Dazed Digital noted that Tei Shi "channels the Coen Brothers," going on to say "The greatest gift of Tei Shi might be her natural ability to transmute personal stories into sticky pop hooks."
