Lindi Ortega has “the pipes of Patsy Cline with the visual flair of Amy Winehouse,” says The Washington Post, and she’s planning to kick off 2018 with a headline tour making stops across Canada and the US. With more than 30 dates on the books — and additional dates on the horizon — the shows will feature a feisty, rockabilly mix “drenched in passion, heartache and country swagger,” claims Huffington Post.

Additionally, fans can expect to hear new music from Ortega’s forthcoming concept LP, which was recently recorded at Battle Tapes studio in East Nashville.

Ortega is “genre-defying in both her music and her personal style,” according to NPR’s All Things Considered, and in 2017, she opened select dates for Chris Stapleton and Dwight Yoakam. The year also marked a milestone in Ortega's personal life when she married Canadian musician Daniel Huscroft and relocated from Nashville to Calgary.

Chad VanGaalen and his backing band, The Bleach Wipes, just wrapped up nearly 50 date tour covering Germany, The Netherlands, United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and France — where they managed to squeeze in a picturesque rooftop session for Mowno before their show in Paris. The band played a stripped down acoustic set, turning out mellow versions of Light Information tunes “Host Body” and “Static Shape”.

Today, VanGaalen also premieres a single through Adult Swim, with the driving instrumental "Dust on Dust (Dog Walking Jammer)". The new track caps off the outlet’s year-long Singles Program. The appropriately-titled jammer is representative of his more electronic and instrumental work that doesn’t always make it to his solo albums.

On December 21, Chad and The Bleach Wipes will appear on CBC’s q, performing a few tunes from Light Information. The band stopped in at CBC headquarters on the final leg of this year’s Canadian tour, where they chatted with Tom Power about the new album, as well as Chad’s multi-faceted life as an animator and visual artist. Chad and the band’s recent Indie 88 Collective Arts Black Box Session will also air in January.

Chad VanGaalen and the Bleach Wipes have some more Canadian dates for 2018 in support of Light Information, beginning January 19 in Winnipeg at The Good Will and ending January 27 in Edmonton at the Starlite Room. Full tour dates can be found below.

Royal Mountain Records (Mac DeMarco, Alvvays, PUP, METZ) is capping off a big year by welcoming their newest signing, Nightseeker – the non-fictional band of fictional character Dean from FUBAR – to their expanding roster.

Like Alice Cooper, Dean Murdoch is the onstage personality of Paul Spence, co-creator of FUBAR and composer of music in both films. And while the films are comedies, Nightseeker is as serious about their craft as witches at a coven. There are no winks to the camera. Every song is on point, even if the lyrics are about needing to impregnate the universal goodness with rock to insure the propagation of humankind.

“I like the fact that Royal Mountain Records has a mountain in the name,” says Murdoch (Spence). “To me that’s stable and wise and also may contain precious ore and or minerals. And might possibly have a secret base inside, with cannons, tanks, and deadly lazers. We recorded this record with Ian Blurton, the genius who produced FUBAR’s last movie. He truly is a magic man of metal. This album, is a concept. One man’s journey from the edge of destruction, to the outer reaches of space, to save mankind, and to meet beautiful amazon warrior women in the process. This is the greatest fantasy rock album ever."

In 2000, FUBAR hit the theatres and there began an epic journey towards becoming a cult classic and an integral part of the Canadian comedy landscape. In 2010 the sequel to FUBAR was released, giving birth to the band Nightseeker, who composed and recorded the music for the soundtrack. In November of 2017 Viceland premiered the new eight-episode series based on the mockumentary about two hockey-haired metalheads, featuring Nightseeker’s current line-up. It’s funny, it’s crazy, and the music is awesome, most of which is featured on the Nightseeker album.
