The Parties

Rainbow Quartz is excited to release the incredibly refreshing guitar/pop/psych/rock album by San Francisco’s THE PARTIES. We at the label feel that they fit in perfectly with the sound of labelmates Asteroid #4, The Morning After Girls and even Outrageous Cherry – with the super-melodic track “Velvet Love Affair” even sounding like Volebeats meets Ryan Adams. Or, think “Sonic Flower Groove”-era Primal Scream meets Slowdive with an American garage rock twist.

THE PARTIES cite inspirations from the 60’s like the Kinks and Velvet Underground and modern bands like The High Dials and Luna. Their unique creation of catchy pop songs are blanketed by a powerful wall of harmonies from each of the four members. Lead vocals are shared amongst the band, adding variety and texture to their memorable melodies.

Holding the band together is drummer, John Morgan, who grew up in the burgeoning Richmond, VA mod/garage rock scene. Clearly influenced by Keith Moon, John brings intensity and excitement to each song. Bassist Rex Padayhag, who grew up in the Philippines playing with various bands on the Manila Psychedelic Pop circuit, adds his own flavor of experienced maturity, effortlessly playing bass melodies. Guitarist Sarah Mehlfeld, from Oakland, CA, plays rich leads reminiscent of Sterling Morrison. Her style brings a distinct subtlety that deeply contrasts with charming chemistry. San Francisco power-pop veteran Jeremy Powers, rounds out the group with his wild guitar playing and crazy onstage antics. This strong, dynamic power pop four-piece inspires even the truest wallflower to put down the punch and join the party.
