“gritty, good-old-fashioned rock n’ roll – woven with both beautifully complex and beautifully simple anecdotes, delivered with hoarse vibrato, bumpy beats – and a lot of harnessed heart and soul.” Noisey

“Hitting a sweet spot between rustled-up roots rock and early '80s Springsteen anthems, ...full of jumpy backbeats, joyous acoustic strums, and baseball stadium organ sounds. Exclaim!

“authenticity in song…victory anthems for the nine-to-five weekday warriors” CBC Music

“a rocker from start to finish” Local Xpress

“should have no trouble making a name for himself with his debut full-length” Sun Media

The first single from Adam Baldwin’s debut LP, “Daylight” was inspired by the lead up to the last federal election in Canada, occurring during the recording sessions. “It’s a song about both the unity and division we felt as a country,” says Baldwin. “It’s a song that should remind us that this change was spurred by a desire for a different direction, and that while our course appears to have changed, we have to demand that it continue to do so.” Today, Baldwin reveals the Scott Simpson directed video for “Daylight” courtesy of Noisey, shouting from the rooftop, surrounded by reminders of the issues Canadians face.

Adam Baldwin is perhaps best known as a member of Matt Mays’ band, however the Dartmouth based musician has already been awarded Nova Scotia Music Week’s Male Artist Recording Of The Year on the back of his 2013 solo EP. His first LP, No Telling When (Precisely Nineteen Eighty-Five), is out now via Sonic Records. The album was produced by Liam O’Neil (The Stills, Metric) the album also features the talents of Josh Trager (Sam Roberts Band), Brian Murphy (Alvvays), and Leah Fay (July Talk).

The title track and first song “No Telling When (Precisely Nineteen Eighty-Five)” describes events in New York City in 1985, the year before Adam was born, and suggests how, thirty years on, not a lot in our culture has really changed. A particular unnamed real-estate developer, reality TV star, and politician personifies this idea.

“Anytime” and “Sparrow Song”, both featuring backup vocals from Leah Fay, loosely form a two act play and the centre piece of the album. In “Anytime” Adam sings about young love and all the hopes and fears that come with that, while “Sparrow Song” describes those fears when they become reality.

“Rehtaeh” is about the systemic failures that led to the death of Rehtaeh Parsons in 2013 and is, as Adam puts it “maybe the most important song I'll ever write.” The album closes with “Living Proof”, a song about the Canadian Dream, and how as Adam points out, “the dream is elusive because it isn't made available to everyone. It can't be attained by just anyone.”

BRENDAN CANNING ANNOUNCES HOME WRECKING YEARS

Brendan Canning, founding member of Broken Social Scene, today announces his forthcoming solo album, Home Wrecking Years, out August 12 via Arts & Crafts.

Home Wrecking Years is a vibe-y backyard barbecue-ready indie album. Smart and breezy 4-minute pop tunes that run the gamut from 90s-era college rock to tropical baroque pop. First single and lead track “Book It To Fresno” features churning electric guitars and pounding drums forming a wall with Canning’s sweet tenor vocals.

“’Book it to Fresno’, was an immediate tune for our band. No talking, just rocking. Everyone listening to one another, comfortable with the role they play in the band, says Canning. “It's a very satisfying experience when a song comes together without interruption or the (seemingly) inevitable over-thinking process that many bands fall prey to.  I'm a big fan of getting the initial idea down and moving on. We chose this song to open the record because it captures the essence of what this band does well musically and lyrically,” Brendan continues. "’I'm not here to laugh at your mistakes / I'm just here to offer a break,’ was a good and positive foot to start on, sentiment-wise. If this is a road trip album, let it be the soundtrack to a John Hughes film that will never be made.”

Written between the fall of 2013 and the spring of 2015 while building a band to tour his previous bedroom folk informed solo album, Brendan Canning found inspiration for Home Wrecking Years by returning to the sound of a full band. “Maxing out as a six-piece we jammed in my living room, making enough pleasant noise for the neighbours to enjoy during that summer of 2014,” recalls the Toronto songwriter. “Prime Rob Ford years,” he further notes. “And just as our mayor was falling apart, we were indulging in a little sonic deconstruction on the south end of Draper Street. “

Indeed. Much like Broken Social Scene cohort Kevin Drew’s last album Darlings, this is Brendan Canning’s first full band recording since Broken Social Scene’s Forgiveness Rock Record. Big guitars, loud drums, swooping melodies, alluring keyboards, free-form feedback loops, are all in abundance and the record features guest appearances from BSS members Sam Goldberg and Justin Peroff, as well as The Stills/Kings Of Leon’s Liam O’Neil. Add in a throwback ’90s sound and ’00s ambience against the backdrop of his hometown, and you're in classic Brendan Canning heaven.

“I am mid-way through my third decade of making music in Toronto and can honestly say this city has been a gift. I have played in loads of bands in this town, drank in many bars, been able to travel the world, and seen a million faces. This city continues to give back so I can find inspiration to do what I do. This recording, like any venture, takes so many people behind the scenes helping out and serving as a sounding board at every step of the way. All so that maybe, just maybe, one of your songs gets heard and people click LIKE. Or you get a sync on Degrassi: The Next Generation. “

Today is the day. Following a week-long Apple Music exclusive, River Tiber has released his long-gestating and highly-anticipated debut full length album Indigo. to the world. The Toronto producer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, aka Tommy Paxton-Beesley’s new release furthers the silky, midnight-hued electronic R&B aesthetic of his previous EPs - 2015’s When The Time Is Right and 2013’s The Star Falls.

Indigo joins an ever-growing catalogue that features collaborations with Kaytranada, Pusha T, Daniel Caesar, Jazz Cartier, and more. The record sees Paxton-Beesley demonstrating his unique ability as a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer and creative force. He writes, arranges, plays, and records almost every element on every composition, but also uses collaboration as a tool to generate and hone ideas.

In two short years River Tiber has developed a global reputation as a producer, not only for the acumen and singularity of vision demonstrated in his own music and collaborations, but also for his work with beat maker heavyweights like Frank Dukes that have lead to vocal placements and session credits on songs by Drake, Travis Scott, Mac Miller, Freddie Gibbs, and more. Last year he also worked closely with friends BADBADNOTGOOD in arranging and playing cello, violin and trombone to the group’s Ghostface Killah collab Sour Soul and was one of just three Canadians selected to Red Bull Music Academy Paris in 2015.

River Tiber will play select shows through the rest of 2016, including WayHome Music & Arts Festival and Forecastle, with many more dates to be announced soon.
