Today, on August 31, Mike Edel is sharing his new single “31”, which, coincidentally, hits you with the song’s hook right at 0:31. The track was produced by Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie), who also produced “Go With You”. Mike describes the song as an “‘I Won’t Back Down’, 30s is the new 20s inspired anthem. It's about your friends getting real jobs, buying houses, renovating their basements to their newly purchased homes, then renting it out and talking about real estate all the time.” Live In Limbo claims “31” is “a glorious folk-pop meditation on growing older and not losing your sense of adventure. The song acts as a rallying point that your best days are not behind you.”

Recently, Mike also shared the video for “Go With You”, an optimistic indie-pop anthem for 2018’s dwindling days of summer and beyond. The video sees Mike surprise his dad at home just to spend the day with him; bowling, at the bookstore, getting a key cut, and eating pizza. “I am still not sure if he knows we made the music video,” says Mike.

Edel’s music has been streamed 2 million times across major platforms, being in rotation on CBC Music, AAA Radio across the United States, and on Sirius XM’s The Loft. In the past few years he’s played hundreds of shows including Rifflandia Festival, Vancouver Folk Festival, Regina Folk Festival, Victoria International Jazz Festival, and Upstream Music Festival, having shared the stage with Serena Ryder, Foy Vance, Said The Whale, and Josh Garrels.

Hailing from Gabriola Island, Dead Soft is a four-piece band pairing playful, melody-driven rock ‘n roll with high energy power-pop anthems.

Today Dead Soft releases a new video for trippy punk banger "Down", the second official single from their forthcoming New Emotion EP out October 12 on Arts & Crafts. Exclaim! called “Down” an "impossibly hooky song, which might be the band's best work yet."

The video was filmed on Gabriola Island, BC with a VHS camera, which resulted in some spacey, psychedelic vibes to match the mood of the song. “It was one of the most fun days of the entire summer,” says bass player Keeley Rochon. “I really love how it captures us in our element — eating, drinking, being merry, and acting like total freaks!”

Dead Soft vocalist/songwriter Nathaniel Epp says "Down" is about “the flukey and fickle nature of being, the lightness of existence, and the tragedy/comedy of everyday life."

New Emotion features five catchy, earnest fuzzed-out rock songs that act as an empowering reminder that you are in control of your life, even when life feels out of control. The EP symbolizes renewal and growth.

“We chose this as the name for the EP due to the mysterious duality of the meaning,” says Epp. “‘New emotion’ in and of itself sounds bright and new, but the lyric it stems from - ‘Here comes the rain again / Falling on my head like a memory / Falling on my head like a new emotion’ - evokes a sense of sadness and longing.”

The theme of new beginnings align closely with changes in the band. Specifically, the recent additions of Alex Smith (drums) and Kyle Schick (guitarist) have allowed for a bigger sound, more hooky guitar leads, Beach Boys-like harmonies, and more strength and purpose. The new line-up initiated a wellspring of creativity.

The band's recently released first single "Kill Me" is about the ending of a personal relationship, trying to destroy an unhealthy state of mind and adopt a new one. It's about kicking someone out of your heart, clearing out the psychic space they took up, and offering them an invitation to do the same.

Just in time for the Labour Day weekend, singer / songer Jim Bryson is sharing the video for “Labor Drive” directed by Lesley Marshall. “When Jim came to me with the idea for the video he did say it was his wildest idea ever,” says Marshall. “I was immediately intrigued and it turned out he wanted to make a lovely, wholesome video about having a backyard party where friends of ours were eating chicken wings at extreme close ups. The wings, as they do, ran out quickly, but we were able to capture the finger-licking goodness without getting too much on our telephoto lens.”

Due out September 14 via Rae Spoon’s Coax Records / Headless Owl Records, Tired Of Waiting, is a short statement of 6 songs, all written on the same $100 guitar. Recorded in three days at Bryson's Fixed Hinge Studio with Jonas Bonnetta (Evening Hymns), the EP features the playing of the Arcade Fire’s Jeremy Gara, Scattered Cloud's Philippe Charbonneau, and Jamie Kronik.

If pressed for an answer, one might say Tired of Waiting is a place where "Folk and indie music marry with almost punk edges and words at the forefront for those who listen to that sort of thing."

Bryson has released 5 critically acclaimed solo recordings, including 2010’s The Falcon Lake Incident - a collaborative effort with Winnipeg wonders The Weakerthans. His most recent studio album, Somewhere We Will Find Our Place, was produced by Charles Spearin (Do May Say Think, Broken Social Scene). Album single, “Ontario”, reached CBC Radio 2’s Top 5.

In recent years, Bryson’s has been recording and producing records for artist from all over in his Fixed Hinge Studio he built in 2013 including Oh Susanna, Little Scream, The Skydiggers, and Kalle Mattson. A self-described ‘musical-sidecar’, Bryson has also played and toured with Kathleen Edwards, The Weakerthans, and The Tragically Hip.
