BRANDON WOLFE SCOTT ANNOUNCES THE POSTCARD WRITER

YUKON BLONDE GUITAR PLAYER AND SINGER BRANDON WOLFE SOCTT TO RELEASE DEBUT SOLO EP ON JANUARY 15 VIA NEVADO RECORDS

LISTEN TO THE FIRST SINGLE “HEARTLESS”

Over the past five years on the road as one third of Yukon Blonde, Brandon Wolfe Scott penned notebooks full of playful new-country ditties, purely for fun – writing songs under an alter ego named Dusty Summers. With the band on break between tours in 2013, Scott found himself revisiting those old notebooks and connecting with lyrics that he had once considered ‘a joke’.

Those ideas now make up The Postcard Writer EP, set for release on Nevado Records on January 15. “I ended up really loving some of the songs. So I decided to salvage them in a way that was more me, you know drop the low country voice that I was putting on and play them more like how I normally would. They were just nice songs, so I reworked the lyrics to make them sound less hokey and more meaningful.”

Touring internationally and receiving a long list of accolades including a JUNO Nomination, two Polaris Music Prize Nominations, and a SiriusXM Indie Win with the BC indie rock trio, exposed Scott to a macrocosm of music and sounds. But what influenced him the most was home, specifically his Grandfather’s home in Vancouver, BC, where he would crash in between tours. There was a lot of cribbage and a lot of country music.

“My Grandfather would just put on the greatest little country records all day long and we would just sit and bull shit about old country guys - like Floyd Cramer who was a great piano player and Sons of the Pioneers and I guess it really came through in my songs.”

ANDY SHAUF ANNOUNCES CANADIAN TOUR DATES WITH LOU DOILLON

SASKATCHEWAN SINGER-SONGWRITER’S NEW SINGLE “JENNY COME HOME” OUT NOW VIA ARTS & CRAFTS

TOUR DATES BEGIN FEBRUARY 17

Arts & Crafts recently announced the signing of a talented young singer-songwriter named Andy Shauf. A self-produced multi-instrumentalist, Shauf captivated listeners and press with the affecting songs from his album The Bearer of Bad News, recorded in the basement of a home in Regina. After an extensive North American tour with Low this fall, Andy Shauf will be heading out with France’s Lou Doillon in February throughout Ontario and Quebec. Tour stops include Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City and more. All dates are listed below.

Shauf’s songs possess a sound that is both familiar – many reviews reference Elliott Smith – and yet there is also something new there, in the lyrics and the unique instrumentation. Exclaim! writes, “Shauf is a more mature songwriter than his age suggests, effortlessly creating an atmosphere of pensive gloom that is somehow also beautifully delicate and spacious,” while Big Takeover offers, “I actually find the way Shauf creates characters and environments to be a lot similar to someone like Bob Dylan.”

Fans of Shauf will hear a noticeable shift in sound on new single “Jenny Come Home”, a jangly, upbeat track unlike anything he has released to date. Shauf delivers a narrative from the perspective of a man who is cheating on his partner and gets caught, masked in luscious production and clarinets recorded by Shauf in Regina’s Studio One and mixed by Rob Schnapf (Kurt Vile, Beck, The Vines). The sound is a lilting and entirely captivating pop song that manages to simultaneously convey a yearning and unfolding heartache.

ANDY SHAUF CANADIAN TOUR DATES WITH LOU DOILLON

Feb 19 – Montreal, QC – Metropolis
Feb 20 – Gatineau, QC – Salle Jean- Despréz
Feb 21 – Quebec City, QC – Salle Albert-Rousseau
Feb 23 – Laval, QC – Annexe 3
Feb 24 – Sherbrooke, QC –  Théâtre Granada

Critical Acclaim for Andy Shauf:

“He wrote and recorded it in his parents’ basement, and he came up with what I think will definitely be a top-10 record for me this year.” NPR Music

“Andy Shauf is really cute, but that’s not what makes him such a captivating performer. The Regina, SK singer-songwriter is blunt and sharp, and his latest record contains the perfect balance of artistic uncertainty and absolute spirituality. Think of him as Canada’s modern answer to Nick Drake.” The AV Club

“One of the most outstanding talents we’ve heard in quite some time.” The Line Of Best Fit

“Andy’s Shauf’s acoustic songs made me think of the late Elliott Smith’s beautiful music in that they sound intricate and ghostly.” Huw Stephens, NME / BBC1 Radio Host

Canadian singer-songwriter Jenny Berkel’s evocative songs and voice have been intoxicating listeners since the release of her first album, Here On A Wire. Both on her own and as part of Daniel Romano's Trilliums band, her consistent touring has garnered fans across the country and the ocean. It has also earned her the attention of Pheromone Recordings.

“It’s a true pleasure to be welcoming Jenny to the Pheromone roster,” says Pheromone Recordings founder Kim Cooke. “She’s a sublime new talent as a songwriter, a vocalist and live performer and we can’t wait to bring her music to market.”

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with Pheromone,” says Berkel. “They are wonderful people who are passionate about what they do and committed to supporting music that moves them. It’s a true honour to join their roster!”

To celebrate the signing and ahead of an upcoming release via Pheromone Recordings, Berkel has self-released the Cicada EP, a collection of songs recorded throughout the last two years which features guests Tamara Lindeman (The Weather Station), Michael Feuerstack, Daniel Romano and Kay Berkel.

“Love Is A Dark Thing” is a duet with Michael Feuerstack, who Berkel claims is “one of the greatest songwriters in this country. As I was writing this song, I could already hear his warm, gentle voice singing it with me.” “How Red The Bloom” is a spookier song featuring Tamara Lindeman, another one of Canada’s finest. “She has such a rich and expansive voice. I thought it would be perfect on this song. We sent it to her in Toronto and she swiftly sent it back with these perfectly eerie harmonies.” The EP is available for purchase HERE and the track list can be found below.

Born in the heart of Ontario’s lush forests and fields, Berkel’s music has drawn her from rural Ontario to Winnipeg to Toronto and now to Montreal. This constant shifting finds its rest in her songs: her lyrics are dreamy and piercing, shimmering with memories and glittering with the quiet solitude of a night sky.

A full length LP is due out on Pheromone Recordings in the near future and full album details will be announced shortly. In the meantime fans in Toronto can see Jenny Berkel perform at The Burdock on December 18 with Marine Dreams.
