Reuben and The Dark begins 2016 on a remarkable note, delivering its most impactful music yet upon the start of its most significant tour to date. Following the resounding success of the captivating debut album, Funeral Sky, the arrival of new single “Heart In Two” suggests an artist escalating to the next level, on the cusp of a North American tour supporting popular Australian singer-songwriter Vance Joy. Produced by Funeral Sky’s Stephen Kozmeniuk(Kendrick Lamar, BANNERS, Madonna), and mixed by Matty Green (TV On The Radio, Lady Gaga, Ed Sheeran), “Heart In Two” showcases frontman Reuben Bullock’s growth as a songwriter, with new heights of sonic clarity anchored by uncharted depths of lyrical spirit. His breathtaking live band kicks off its 23-date tour tonight in Vancouver, the first of two nights at Orpheum Theatre. The sold out tour includes multi-night stands in Toronto (Massey Hall), Montreal (Metropolis), and Chicago (Riviera), as well as stops in Kelowna, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Windsor, Quebec, RimouskiMoncton, Halifax, and more. “Heart In Two” is a triumphant song about love, light, and darkness. Reuben is a natural storyteller, painting melody-laden images of shadow and sunlight, unfurled over colossal drums and timeless chorus: I broke my heart in two / One for me and one for you, Reuben sings in a voice charmed by wisdom but sweetened with innocence. With “Heart In Two”, Reuben takes the plodding, haunted folk of “Rolling Stone” with the lush dramatics of “Bow And Arrow” to create his most undeniable anthem yet. A gently spiralling guitar melody mingles with rousing orchestration and spectral ambience, building in a perfect arc of evocative production and climactic pause.

Reuben And The Dark is the project borne from songwriter/vocalist Reuben Bullock's reflection on the world. Bullock makes chilling, emotive folk and soul driven by dark, introspective lyrics that explore the duality of misery and joy. Reuben And The Dark has emerged organically from Canada's stellar independent scene on the strength of often anthemic compositions that translate the language of emotion into song with haunting clarity. The celebrated debut album, Funeral Sky, received widespread critical praise and earned a passionate audience through incessant touring and the live five-piece’s enchanting performances. Reuben And The Dark supported Australian bands Boy & Bear and The Paper Kites on tour throughout North America, as well as appearing at festivals like Austin City Limits, Osheaga, Squamish Valley Music Festival, Edmonton Folk, Calgary Folk, and much more.

CHARLOTTE CORNFIELD’S RESIDENCY AT TORONTO’S CAMERON HOUSE BEGINS TODAY AND RUNS THROUGHOUT JANUARY

CANADIAN TOUR DATES TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON

Toronto’s Charlotte Cornfield is a song farmer. She sings clever, heart-wrenching songs in a lived-in, streetwise drawl. Future Snowbird, the follow up to the acclaimed 2011 album Two Horses, grew from Cornfield’s time living in New York and the background noise of her moments in the city: a formative relationship, a vicious bout of psoriasis, and an overall constellation of ups and downs.

Set for release on March 11 via Consonant Records, Future Snowbird was recorded live off the floor at Rooster Studios in Toronto with Cornfield's longtime bandmates (Sam Gleason, Damon Hankoff, Kathryn Palumbo and Sam Rosenberg), and produced and engineered by Don Kerr (Ron Sexsmith, The Rheostatics), with guest Performances by Tim Darcy (Ought) and Johnny Spence (Tegan & Sara). The result is Cornfield's strongest statement to date, each song a moodscape all its own. “The song ‘Aslan’ was the first real New York track,” recalls Cornfield. “I wrote it when I first moved to Brooklyn. It's about accepting that sometimes things are beyond your control and it's okay. You don't have to go crazy chasing answers. You can just be yourself and do what you do and then they'll come to you."

Recently Charlotte Cornfield completed a residency at the prestigious Banff Centre, where she recorded and collaborated with Brendan Canning, Kevin Drew, and Charles Spearin of Broken Social Scene. Beginning today, Cornfield starts a residency at Toronto’s Cameron House. More Canadian tour dates to support Future Snowbird will be announced shortly.

Aside from her work as a solo artist, Charlotte Cornfield has held down the drum chair for Ben Caplan, Peter Nevins, and Adrian Underhill. She recently began working on a new project with Tim Darcy of Ought, and beyond her own discography she has a vault of recording and performing credits as a drummer and singer with The Provincial Archive, Anais Mitchell, The Reverend John DeLore, and The Keys. Her songs have appeared in films and television shows internationally, and she's shared stages with the likes of Sharon Van Etten, Sun Kil Moon, and Lake Street Dive.

Rae Spoon has been called one of Canada’s best songwriters and their new album Armour does not disappoint. The ten new songs hold all of the lyrical depth indicative of Rae Spoon’s compositions while showcasing their distinctive voice. "I wrote Armour in three different cities at my kitchen table over a couple of years,” says Spoon. “I had a couple of really hard years after My Prairie Home came out. It left me with a lot of questions about how I was going to live with trauma after I was so open about it on screen. At the same time I fell in love and got married. The experience of choosing hope over despair really plays itself out in the lyrics.”

Set for release on February 19 via Coax RecordsArmours self-produced enigmatic soundscapes blur the lines between organic and electronic instruments. Recorded at Calgary’s Arch Audio Studio, Rae Spoon claims, “there was a lot of experimentation with analog synths and electronic music programming along with my usual guitar and vocals. I took my tracks to long-time collaborators Alexandre Decoupigny and Lorrie Matheson and it became an album. I think the production shows a level of sophistication I have been working towards for years."

Armour, Rae Spoon’s eighth album, is the highly anticipated follow-up to the Polaris Music Prize nominated My Prairie Home, a musical about Spoon’s fraught childhood in Alberta. As much as My Prairie Home was about Spoon’s upbringing as a queer youth in a Pentecostal household, Armour is about their view of the future. Moments of reckoning with trauma and self-preservation mingle with messages of hope and survival. Armour explores the idea that there is no instruction manual for healthy adulthood, asserting that the attempt to construct meaning is itself the point of life. Armour is a tribute to the intimate space where both hope and despair have space to share the same voice.

Tour dates across Canada supporting Armour begin February 16 and all performance stops can be found below.
