If you remember way back to 2014 when PUP revealed the semi-autobiographical video for “Guilt Trip” from their self-titled album, you’ll have seen actor Finn Wolfhard playing a young PUP vocalist Stefan Babcock in the video. With PUP currently on tour in Europe unable to attend the Polaris Music Prize Gala last night, and Wolfhard finding international success as one of the leads in Netflix’s Stranger Things, he seemed the obvious choice to stand in for the band at the awards gala as he addressed the audience via video.

And so as not to leave an empty table at the gala, PUP also sent their parents to attend the evening’s events, run their social media accounts (#PUPsParentsAtPolaris), and get drunk for them in their place.

Currently on tour in Europe, PUP will be returning to North American for a cross continent tour to end off their trip around the world supporting their latest album, The Dream Is Over. If you were lucky enough to get into either of PUP’s sold out shows in Toronto or Montreal earlier this year, then you were privy to the “thunderous response of yells and fist pumps” and a “frenzy of flailing limbs and floating beach balls” which led Exclaim! to claim “they're just too relentlessly good onstage.” Canadian tour dates begin October 13. Full tour dates can be found below.

“The Dream Is Over”. They’re the exact words a doctor spoke to Babcock upon discovering his vocal chords had suffered “pretty aggressive hemorrhaging.” Given that the band played over 450 shows in the last two years in support of its self-titled debut, it’s perhaps not surprising that it happened. But by announcing The Dream Is Over the way they did – onstage at a sold-out show in Brooklyn – PUP proved that the exact opposite is true. The Dream Is Over is visible, visceral proof that the dream is still very much alive.

As for that self-aware, tongue-in-cheek album title? "It's a fuck you to that doctor who told me I may never sing again," explains singer/guitarist Stefan Babcock. "It's a fuck you directed at ourselves for every single moment we ever took for granted. And it's a shotty reminder that shit happens and expectations change but we're still doing what we wanna do. This is life. This is the fucking dream."

Since the release of PUP’s self-titled debut, this ferocious four-piece has truly taken the world by storm. They were listed amongst Rolling Stone’s Breakout Rock Acts of 2014, named one of Kerrang’s 20 Hottest Bands In The World Right Now, garnered nominations for three JUNO Awards, including a 2016 Video Of The Year nod for “Dark Days,” which was also shortlisted for the Prism Prize, while The Dream Is Over was short-listed for the Polaris Music Prize.

Tuesday, September 20, 2016 - Toronto, ON – In conjunction with the release of Secret Path, the forthcoming album, book, and film, Gord Downie has announced two live shows, in Ottawa (October 18) and Toronto (October 21), with proceeds directed to reconciliation. Full details below.

Secret Path is ten songs that tell the story of Chanie Wenjack (miscalled “Charlie” by his teachers), a twelve year-old boy who died fleeing the Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential School near Kenora, Ontario, fifty years ago, walking home to the family he was taken from over 400 miles away. Downie was introduced to the story by his brother Mike Downie, who shared with him Ian Adams’ Maclean’s article from February 6, 1967, “The Lonely Death of Charlie Wenjack.”

“Chanie haunts me. His story is Canada’s story. This is about Canada… The next hundred years are going to be painful as we get to know Chanie Wenjack and thousands like him – as we find out about ourselves, about all of us – but only when we do can we truly call ourselves, Canada.” – Gord Downie

To read Gord Downie’s full statement on Secret Path from September 9, 2016, go HERE.

Secret Path acknowledges a dark part of Canada’s history – the long-suppressed mistreatment of Indigenous children and families by the residential school system – with the hope of starting our country on a road to reconciliation. Every year as Chanie Wenjack is remembered, the hope for Secret Path is that it educates all Canadians young and old on this omitted part of the country's history, urging us all to play an active role in the preservation of Indigenous lives and culture in Canada.

Secret Path will arrive on October 18, 2016, in a deluxe vinyl and book edition, and as a book with album download. Pre-order HERE.

The Secret Path animated film will be broadcast by CBC in an hour-long commercial-free television special on Sunday, October 23, 2016, at 9pm (9:30 NT).

The first single from TUNS’ self-titled debut, “Mind Over Matter”, grabbed a lot of ears. The “lovelorn boot-stomper”, as claimed by by Stereogum, hit #1 on both CBC Radio 2 and Radio 3. Today, TUNS is ready to treat your eyes with the new video for the track courtesy of Exclaim!.

Comprised of Chris Murphy (Sloan), Matt Murphy (Super Friendz, Flashing Lights), and Mike O’Neill (Inbreds), the ‘supergroup’s’ acclaimed self-titled album is out now via Royal Mountain Records.

TUNS is an exciting new band of equals, of collaborators, of experienced veterans who sound as exuberant as ever. Their debut self-titled album is full of power pop with intricate melodies and electrifying rock’n’roll written with a deep appreciation for songcraft. It’s like a music geek’s version of fantasy baseball, a band that could feature Paul McCartney, Pete Townshend, and the Attractions’ Pete Thomas, with Alex Chilton and The Jam’s Paul Weller throwing in song ideas.

The first time anyone knew that TUNS existed was their first gig at Massey Hall in October 2015, part of an all-star benefit show organized by Hayden. The band’s internal mutual appreciation dates back 20 years to when the Inbreds and Super Friendz — with whom Chris was playing drums during a Sloan hiatus — toured together, a friendship only now coming to musical fruition.
