SCATTERED CLOUDS RELEASES TWO VIDEOS FOR “MORNING AFTER”

Scattered Clouds darkened the tint of summer 2019 with its new record TAKE AWAY YOUR SUMMER, a futuristic broken romance set amidst a burning dystopian landscape. Inspired by the dichotomous terrain of their hometown of Hull, Québec, the experimental outfit of Philippe Charbonneau and Jamie Kronick explores themes of political conspiracy, post-capitalism, police brutality and nihilism on their second full-length, set against a romantic backdrop of auto-fictional narratives told in both English and French prose.

Today, the band shares two videos for the album song “Morning After,” a two-part track prequel to their single/video “Days on End” that layers old analog synths with elliptical bass melodies and hand sequenced arpeggios.

Morning After Pt. 1”  is an “uneasy sleep, a lucid dream and a prelude to contempt and regret,” offers the band. Calling to mind the dystopian atmosphere of Terminator 1 or Escape From NY, the video, directed by experimental filmmakers Charles-Andre Coderre (Jerusalem In My Heart) and Guillaume Vallée, was a “spontaneous creation by dancer choreographer Kim Sanh Chau, created live with analog video camera & 16mm film projector,” Coderre says.

“Morning After Pt. 2” – a latter years Leonard Cohen-esque monologue creates a dramatic bittersweet ending, “a hazy morning filled with contempt and regret,” says frontman Charbonneau. Shot and directed by Andre Baker (Alternative Deletes), the video is cinematic, disquieting, post-romance - with cigarette smoke anxiously dancing around part two of this synthetic, heartbroken orchestral suit.

With a sonic palette that calls to mind late 70s / early 80s soundtracks like Vangelis’ Blade Runner, John Carpenter’s Escape From New York, Brad Fiedel’s The Terminator, and Tangerine Dream’s The Sorcerer, TAKE AWAY YOUR SUMMER walks the razor thin line between cacophony and delight, balancing the uneasy ecstasy of Suicide and the thundering underbelly or Liars.

TAKE AWAY YOUR SUMMER was written and performed by Philippe Charbonneau, Michael John Dubue, and Jamie Kronick in Hull, Québec, with Grammy-nominated Ottawa engineer/mixer Philip Shaw Bova. Featuring artwork based on a photo of a quietly burning dépanneur seen by Charbonneau one summer night, the album imagery captures the ominous yet seductive confines of the band’s all-too-vivid anti-utopia. The album was released on June 27, 2019 by Boiled Records, the Toronto & Philadelphia-based experimental record that released fellow Hull band FET.NAT’s Polaris Short Listed Le Mal LP earlier this year.

"Close Talker, has a way of burrowing deep under the skin.... the band recently unveiled another moody, sweetly impeccable gem in "Half Past Nine." Those bold, chiming guitars are back, this time in aid of a warmhearted rumination on moments we celebrate, romanticize and fight to preserve in our memories" – NPR

Close Talker has always had an appetite for pushing their music and craft to uncharted territories. With their new album How Do We Stay Here? the band felt that it was especially important to create an environment and atmosphere where the audience could truly lose themselves in the music and be apart of the whole experience on a deeper level. The result was a concert experience that is truly the first of its kind: IMMERSION (a 3D binaural Silent Headphone Concert). Taking the idea from concept to reality was a labour of love, and one that came to life through the efforts of many dedicated people rallying behind this special and rewarding project. This short documentary provides some insight into the world behind the scenes in developing this project, along with live performance footage with immersive binaural audio for you to experience a glimpse of IMMERSION.

The band says, “It would have been easier to have just left it an idea that we had dreamt up in the van, or the thought, that some band should do this someday it is pretty cool to reflect and look back and be like, 'Whoa' we're that band. Special thank you to Versa Films for their vivid storytelling and helping share IMMERSION with a wider audience.”

Regarding the live album, “It was always our intention that our special 3D headphone concert series: IMMERSION would outlive the cross Canada tour itself. With that, we've selected recordings from the tour and compiled a full representation of our new album How Do We Stay Here? live from select cities across Canada. In addition, we've mixed the album with immersive binaural audio, best experienced in its entirety wearing headphones, by yourself, and with a glass of red wine. If you can manage to achieve at least two out of the three listed above, you'll be in good shape. This tour and album represent such a special chapter for us and we hope that you too connect and resonate with the album.”

PRAISE FOR CLOSE TALKER

"The Change It Brings" is a softly ruminating track that tackles the most fickle theme of them all- time. Rolling over sinuous guitar layers and smatterings of melodic synths, lead singer Will's breathy vocals welcome you in like a hot cup of tea on a winter's day. The track then promptly sits you down and leaves you to reflect on your own memories while it soothingly plays the soundtrack to your mind. – Earmilk

“A song like "Half Past Nine" shows why the band has found success, it's full of heart and nostalgic longing for moments that have passed but have made a lasting effect for the better.” – The Wild Honey Pie

“’Pace’ is dripping with yearning and nervous anxiety set to a tight indie beat.” – Parade Mag

Today, Winnipeg roots rockers and JUNO Award Winners The Bros. Landreth are announcing their upcoming Canadian tour with dates throughout Western Canada including a hometown show at The Burton Cummings Theatre. Tickets for the Winnipeg show are on sale this Friday, November 8.

The Bros. new album, ‘87, saw the band team up in studio with their longtime producer Murray Pulver. The LP is an exciting evolution of the band’s sound, honed by thousands of hours on stage and filtered through the lens of the last many years on the road. “We’ve got hundreds and hundreds of shows and thousands and thousands of miles under our belts,” says Joey Landreth. “This next record has a confidence that we didn’t have - couldn’t have with the first.”

Before they were The Bros., Joey and Dave Landreth were only looking for a good excuse to spend a little more time together. They had spent their respective early years backing up other artists and touring the world as hired musicians until one particularly long and challenging tour prompted Joey to call his older brother with a simple proposal. “When I get home, let’s sit down and make some noise together” was the call that would be the turning point – seeing them focus on their own roots rock sound that went on to be celebrated on their acclaimed debut album, Let It Lie.

Originally released in their hometown of Winnipeg in 2013, Let It Lie was re-released in 2015 after signing a record deal with Nashville-based Slate Creek Records. The album received widespread acclaim, won multiple awards including a JUNO Award, and propelled the band to play over 400 tour dates around the world. A Rolling Stone review praised the band’s “quiet storm of slide guitar solos, blue notes, three part harmonies”. Lifelong musical hero, Bonnie Raitt, was equally impressed after catching the band’s set, saying "I haven't liked a band as much as The Bros. Landreth in a long time. To hear this kind of funky, southern style rock played with such originality and soul will knock you out."

Then, the band went on a hiatus. A break afforded Joey Landreth the opportunity release and extensively tour two solo albums, Whiskey (2017) and Hindsight (2019), furthering his reputation for being a first-rate guitar slinger, songwriter, and performer in his own right. Joey’s booming solo career might have delayed the timeline for the brothers, yet they never stopped writing songs that would eventually be recorded for their long awaited, follow-up release. “The time off that we took between touring Let It Lie and coming back together to make this next album was really difficult.” Dave says. “It was tough, but we needed to do it. Being away from each other gave us some really valuable perspective. It let us realize just how important and deeply satisfying it is for us to make music together and that’s something that we won’t soon forget.”

The Bros. Landreth’s journey took some unexpected turns, but ultimately reaffirmed two brother’s earnest desire to make honest music together. Their new album’s title, ’87, is a nod to the real beginning of the band; the year they became brothers.
