Today, Liza Anne shares “Desire”, a new song featuring dynamic vocals and shimmering, fresh melodies to contrast complex lyrics. It Is her first new release of 2020, produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen (M83, Beck). ‘Desire feels like too much tequila, and I’ve had plenty,’ Liza sings on this irreverent, self-realizing new track about the intoxication of bad habits.

Liza said of “Desire”, - “This song is the feeling of having too much of a good thing. It is a reckoning with the responsibility that comes with interacting with people through a period of your own unhealth paired with the hope that you can handle yourself better in your future tomorrows.”

The indie rock songstress also recently announced a North American tour with Bombay Bicycle Club, which includes stops in Toronto and Montreal, and her hometown of Nashville. Additional dates to be announced soon.

In support of recovery efforts following the devastating tornado that tore through Nashville this past week, yesterday, Liza released a new live EP entitled Devotion: Nashville Strong. It is a three-song collection of live performances from her last show of 2019 at Nashville’s beloved venue The Basement East, which was destroyed. All proceeds from the EP will benefit Nashville tornado relief. Liza says of the EP, "The Basement East was directly in the line of destruction and among so many other Nashville staples, homes, businesses, families, and schools - the need for support in this community is vast and hard to comprehend. Anything helps. So much is needed."

Liza wrapped up 2019 in a big way - she toured with Lucy Dacus, opened for Phoebe Bridgers, and released her first new song in over 2 years, “Devotion”. Stereogum called “Devotion” a "synth-engulfed” anthem and Ladygunn said “every beat squeez[es] the Blondie-Esque female warrior out of you.” Read Liza’s interview with Flaunt about “Devotion” here.

"Devotion” and “Desire” follow Liza’s 2018 breakout album Fine But Dying, which NPR Music called “bold in both sound and subject.” Following that album, Liza opened for Kacey Musgraves at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, toured with Ray LaMontagne (including a stop at Radio City Music Hall), and walked NYFW 2019

Nashville songwriter Liza Anne releases new Dreams EP out today on Arts & Crafts. The four song EP features a cover of The Cranberries “Dreams”, two remixes, and new single “Kid Gloves”. Liza Anne has also announced a string of new tour dates in October supporting Ray LaMontagne with a stop in Hamilton on October 15. And at the top of next year, Liza Anne will join Kacey Musgraves for select US shows.

The EP features two new remixes, "Turn For The Worse" and "Kid Gloves" reworked by fellow Nashville musician Thad Kopec. With her last album, Fine But Dying, Liza Anne says she “wanted to give people as many doors into the same house as possible - one million tiny doors into emoting and feeling and self actualisation. These remixes ended up giving space for a new emotion and an entirely new feeling. The whole process highlights the transient nature of a work - the way it can be experienced in a new way when it’s run through the filter of somebody else’s mind. That being said, I’d always wanted to hear Thad’s take on the entire world of Fine But Dying - figure out what it would feel like to just pass over the stems and see what sort of thing he’d create. He is a serious genius. I’ve never really seen someone work the way he does and hearing these songs through his interpretation gave them a sort of refreshed meaning. I feel really lucky to have a friend like Thad."

Thad Kopec explains his remixes:

"With ‘Turn For The Worse’, I wanted to create a new sound by mostly warping the recordings that Liza, Zach, Robbie, and co. made in Paris. The existing sounds were gorgeous and held lots of possible worlds within them, so it was a real joy to explore those. I worked in a few synth and drum machine elements, but I mostly explored and expanded dimensions of the existing sounds to create a new work."

"The ‘Kid Gloves’ rework is a study in re-thinking a song to see what it feels like in a more sparse context. I wanted to clothe it in the most minimal elements possible. There’s this beautifully palpable rage I love about the original song, and I wanted to create a fabric that emotion could dance in."

Earlier this month Liza Anne shared her brilliant cover version of The Cranberries track "Dreams", a refreshing slant on a classic tune, slowing down the pace to enhance the spellbinding effect of the song. Her vocals ring through with a passionate urgency yet maintain a delicacy that is so prominent in the original version. With twinkling soundscapes and a hum of modernity, Liza Anne wraps romance and ambition in a more contemporary setting.

Liza Anne explains "Dreams" cover version:

"Some of my most visceral memories from childhood happened with my aunt. I'm named after her, so I think I've naturally gravitated towards discovering things about myself through her - she's always felt more like a sister than an aunt. When I was a kid, we would drive around my hometown listening to records - it was in that passenger seat, with that woman, with my name that I first heard Dreams. I'm not sure how old I was but the way it hit me felt like a beginning. I don't usually like to cover songs - there's a holiness in the way a song is originally experienced that feels sacrilegious to tread upon - but when Dolores passed this last year, I felt like I needed a moment of meditation for the portal that she gave me. I never got to see her perform this song but its existence gave me a hint towards what I wanted to do with my voice and my mind and my body and the time that I stay alive."

The Dreams EP follows Liza Anne’s new critically acclaimed full-length record Fine But Dying released earlier this year on Arts & Crafts. Liza Anne has the incredible ability to swing from dulcet tones into powerful rock and roll choruses rife with attitude. Her new EP is destined to be a contrasting yet dreamy exploration of her innermost thoughts and experiences, delivered with style and a side of punchy ambition.

With the passing of the Dolores O’Riordan earlier this year, Nashville raised songwriter Liza Anne (aka, Liza Anne Odachowski) is paying tribute one of her most beloved artists with her version of the Cranberries’ “Dreams”. “Some of my most visceral memories from childhood happened with my aunt,” says Liza Anne. “I'm named after her, so I think I've naturally gravitated towards discovering things about myself through her - she's always felt more like a sister than an aunt. When I was a kid, we would drive around my hometown listening to records - it was in that passenger seat, with that woman, with my name that I first heard Dreams. “Dreams” will be included on the Dreams EP, out September 14 on Arts & Crafts, along with remixes of “Turn For The Worse” and “Kid Gloves”, two tracks from her third solo album, Fine But Dying.

Out now on Arts & Crafts, Fine But Dying explores issues that women confront daily, as well as mental health and anxiety issues. A deeply introspective record, “I’m Tired, You’re Lonely” marks Liza Anne as strikingly confessional songwriter, sound tracked to music that is suggestive of Courtney Barnett and First Aid Kit.
