On March 19th, multimedia auteur Chad VanGaalen will release his latest offering, World's Most Stressed Out Gardener on Flemish Eye (and Sub Pop for the ROW). The thirteen-track LP, which features the first single, “Samurai Sword” and other jams like “Starlight”, “Where Is It All Going?”, and latest single “Nightwaves”, was written, performed, recorded, and mixed by VanGaalen at his Yoko Eno Studio in Calgary, Alberta, and mastered by Ryan Morey in Montreal, Quebec.

Of his latest offering, “Nightwaves”, VanGaalen shares that it “is about the endless news feed. Giving in to your digital calendar, when all that’s on your to-do list is checking the online updates. Like a William Gibson waking nightmare, boring marketed as sexy.”

For Episode 120 of Laurie Brown’s Pondercast, “Returning Home”, she is away from her home and living on the east coast in Nova Scotia to help care for her father. “My liminal situation feels unique to me...but living in a transitional state, between one thing and another, just about covers everybody these days, yes?”, says Laurie. “So this episode is about that mindset... how it colours everything... in this fog of days…”

Today, Mike Edel is sharing his take on Coldplay’s “Don’t Panic”, the first in a series of four covers to come from the acclaimed songwriter. An apt message for the times, Edel has created a mellow yet hooky and folk version of this early Coldplay classic.

Parachutes was one of my formative albums, and I really like the idea of covering a song that is underrated,” says Edel. “‘Don't Panic’ feels like this kind of song, and it just kept coming back to me through this Pandemic era and has been a comfort to say the least.”

On the heels of his latest full-length album En Masse, Canadian indie singer-songwriter Mike Edel continues to embrace the positives of the era. His series of contemplative, mid-tempo covers is a nod to Edel’s singer-songwriter lean whereas En Masse embraced co-writing, collaboration, intuition and was decidedly upbeat.

En Masse, Mike Edel’s fourth full-length out via PENNANT, saw production and mixing contributions from Marcus Paquin (The National, Arcade Fire), Andy Park (The Head and The Heart, Noah Gundersen) among others. The album features all co-written songs by Edel and including the up-tempo singles and accompanying videos “Hello Universe”, and “Good About Everything”, and “Still Thinking About You”.

Edel’s latest is a follow up to Edel’s Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie) produced 2019 record, THRESHOLDS. After THRESHOLDS, 4 Million cumulative streams across major platforms, landing a song on ABC’s American Idol, in heavy rotation on CBC Music, AAA Radio across the United States, and on Sirius XM’s The Verge and North Americana; after playing hundreds of shows across North American and Europe including Rifflandia Festival, Vancouver Folk Festival, Regina Folk Festival, Victoria International Jazz Festival, and Upstream Music Festival; after sharing the stage with Serena Ryder, Foy Vance, Said The Whale and Josh Garrels; and after moving to Seattle, WA and getting married, Edel has established himself as a creative tour de force with plenty on the horizon.
