Recently, Ottawa duo Chemical Club signed to Arts & Crafts for the release of their new single “Spring”. Today, they’re sharing yet another single, “Every Morning Is a Chance”, which the band says is about "the push and pull within one’s self. One side striving for positive change and habits in your life, the other pulling you down into things that have short term reward but will leave you worse off. Learning how to care for yourself through actions and habits. Sorting through which impulses are beneficial and which are not."

Chemical Club is the project of Eric Graham (he/him) and Michael Watson (they/them). The duo performs tight, catchy indie rock songs, perfect for road trips or coming of age soundtracks that deftly weave naturalistic lyrics with reflections on love, death, insecurity, and growth. Having grown up around the corner from each other, the pair didn’t truly connect until their teen years when they began playing together in garage bands. In 2019, they formed Chemical Club and have since released a series of homespun, self-released singles and EPs that’ve earned them a passionate following over the course of the pandemic. In addition to Chemical Club, both members perform in ascendant indie rock project fanclubwallet, with Watson serving as fanclubwallet's co-writer and producer.

LOWELL SHARES NEW SINGLE, “HAMPTONS CITY COWBOY”

A follow up to her latest single “Guess I’m Going To Hell”, Lowell continues to effortlessly fuse classic 60s doo wop sounds with modern pop elements; but in contrast, “Hamptons City Cowboy” gives an upbeat yet mysterious take on the lure of a new relationship. "I wrote this song about a light love, the early stages of a relationship when everything is still all a mystery,” says Lowell. “Unlike some of my other more introspective songs this is really just a fun and flirty Friday night out.”

MORE ABOUT LOWELL
After dropping out of college and escaping a manipulative music manager in her early career, Lowell was tapped by producer Martin Terefe to create her debut EP featuring collaborations with members of Coldplay, A-Ha and Mew. The EP caught the attention of indie label Arts & Crafts, who released her 2014 debut which prominently addressed her feminist politics. Following her debut, Lowell decided to focus on songwriting for other artists and quickly found success writing for artists like Charli XCX, Hailee Steinfeld, Tate McRae, JoJo, Demi Lovato, Lennon Stella and Charlie Puth. She has earned platinum plaques for co-writing “Not A Love Song” by Bülow and “Selfish” by Madison Beer, and most recently a gold plaque for writing Nessa Barrett and Jxdn's “la di die”

Continuing her multidisciplinary artistic trajectory, Lowell co-wrote Bloodthirsty, a 2020 Canadian horror feature film about a young vegan indie singer, who finds herself turning into a werewolf under the pressure of recording her anticipated second album. The film features several new songs, including “Lemonade” and “Bloodthirsty” which received a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Original Song. The film was accepted into Frontieres at Cannes and premiered at both Fantastic Fest in Austin TX (the US’s biggest genre fest) and Fantasia in Montreal (only 10 films accepted world wide).

Speaking about the minimalist bedroom-pop ballad, Houston says, “'Comfortable' is about my anxiety toward the idea of dying. The fact that one day everything just stops and you no longer exist doesn’t seem possible to me. I wrote the song about how this fear causes me to feel pressure to live the best life possible, but then the anxiety of dying gives me is also so crippling at times that I don’t want to do anything and then I feel like I’m failing at living the best life."

PRAISE FOR CHARLIE HOUSTON

“Her debut EP I Hate Spring casts back to timeless memories of fumbling early romance—first kisses, messy breakups, and short-lived flirtations are all soundtracked by weightless indie pop and R&B stylings.” - Under The Radar

“It’s a striking debut, an unguarded, ultra-personal tapestry—stories of heartbreak and struggle, sung in her soothing, signature voice.” - SPIN

“‘Things’ is an unadulterated look at youthful insecurities and unrequited affection. Over a somber but punchy backdrop, she delivers an evocative performance that is ripe with honesty.” - EARMILK

“Charlie Houston's bouncy contemporary R&B-inflected pop straightforwardly addresses the meaningful mundanities of Gen Z life.” - Bandcamp “New and Notable”
