Today, Ghostly Kisses (Margaux Sauvé), the international sensation known for her 2022 debut album Heaven, Wait, emerges with a bold and resonant musical evolution, dubbed "Golden Eyes". Blending spirited melodies with a touch of wistful nostalgia, and weaving in the rhythmic tapestry of UK Garage drum beats, provided by George Fitzgerald and Louis-Étienne Santais who offered production on the track, this fresh single unfurls a narrative of romantic awakening within the intricate dynamics of friendship. It's a track that stands tall, buoyed by Ghostly Kisses' self-awareness, her defining strength, and her songwriting prowess, which serves as her vessel for profound expression. With spellbinding vocals, coupled with ingenious wordplay, “Golden Eyes” boasts an infectious hook that lingers. It’s more than just a song; it’s a therapeutic experience you might not have realized were waiting to be explore

Ghostly Kisses explains, “‘Golden Eyes’ is about being in love with your best friend and how gauche it feels to finally admit it. The lyrics were inspired by a revelation from a fan we met on tour, about how hard and vertiginous it can be to express our true feelings to someone that we really love. The verses are intimate, almost like revealing the secret, and then the music opens in the choruses, uplifting the song with light and catchy melodies.”

After unveiling a pair of enchanting French singles during the summer months, "Golden Eyes" marks the inaugural English release in a carefully orchestrated sequence of musical offerings set to unfold throughout 2023 and 2024.

As her global Spotify streams approach the remarkable milestone of 100 million, and with recent support shows alongside Ry X, Men I Trust, Lord Huron, and Pomme, Ghostly Kisses is poised to solidify her presence on the international stage. This momentum is further underscored by her recent debut performances in China later this month, further solidifying her position as a trailblazer in the ethereal realm of music, captivating hundreds of thousands devoted followers worldwide.

MORE ABOUT GHOSTLY KISSES
The bonafide pop-star, born Margaux Sauvé, hails from a musical family in Quebec. Her musical journey commenced early on with her learning the violin. While she briefly attended the Conservatoire in Quebec, she soon found it lacking the element of fun and chose to chart her own musical path. Singing became a part of her repertoire later on, as she once believed that being a singer necessitated a powerful and booming voice, a stark contrast to her quiet and introspective nature. The pop music that surrounded her in Quebec during her formative years didn't quite resonate with her. However, the spark of creativity was ignited during her studies in psychology at university, compelling her to venture into songwriting.

Margaux began creating music at a time when she was trapped in a toxic relationship, struggling to comprehend the situation. This challenging period heavily influenced her early music, resulting in a blend of sorrowful and exploratory themes. Over time, she came to realize the depth of her instinctive songwriting and the emotions she was conveying in her songs.

Four time GRAMMY Award-nominated and JUNO Award-winning singer, songwriter, poet, activist, and multi-instrumentalist Allison Russell has released her Spotify Singles, an incredible new rendition of “Stay Right Here” from her new album, The Returner, along with a beautiful cover of Hozier’s “Take Me To Church” featuring the Resistance Revival Chorus, both recorded at the Power Station in NYC this summer. Russell, who released her second solo album, The Returner last month, has embarked on a major U.S. headlining tour that kicked off earlier this week and will wrap up in January of 2024. Highlights include The El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on November 1st, Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn on November 30th and The Basement East in Russell’s adopted hometown of Nashville on January 11th and 12th. Prior to the headlining dates she appeared at Bristol Rhythm & Roots Festival, FreshGrass Festival, Farm Aid, XPoNential Music Festival and more. This week she has also announced an appearance at Stagecoach and will support Tyler Childers on his US arena tour. Tickets are on sale now. Full tour dates below.

The Returner was written and co-produced by Allison along with dim star (her partner JT Nero and Drew Lindsay) and was recorded over Solstice week in December 2022 at Henson Recording Studios in Los Angeles, CA. It features Russell’s “Rainbow Coalition” ensemble: Elenna Canlas, Elizabeth Pupo-Walker, Ganessa James, Joy Clark, Kerenza Peacock, Larissa Maestro, Mandy Fer (Sway Wild), Megan Coleman, Meg McCormick , SistaStrings (Chauntee & Monique Ross) , Wendy & Lisa (Wendy Melvoin & Lisa Coleman aka The Revolution) and Wiktoria Bialic.

Since the release of her debut solo LP two years ago, Outside Child, Russell’s often devastating, deeply moving, cathartic celebration of survivor’s joy has become one of the most acclaimed albums of the past 10 years. Now comes the second chapter, The Returner, a body-shaking, mind-expanding, soulful expression of liberation, love, and self-respect that serves as a fierce declaration of joy for all survivors that have made it to the other side. Allison, JT, and Drew, built The Returner from the bottom up with a rhythm-first, genre-fluid approach. The improvisational energy of great female artists sparked the album’s fierce joy, and provided a wider canvas for Allison’s immense, unlimited talent. In all, the new album doesn’t just deliver on the promise of the last two years, it exceeds all reasonable (and unreasonable) expectations and affirms Allison Russell’s place among music’s most vital artists⎯and The Returner, as one of 2023’s most essential recordings.

Following a diverse career as a featured member of acclaimed bands including Po’ Girl, Birds of Chicago and Our Native Daughters, Russell finally dared to release her solo project in 2021. "It’s an album of strength and affirmation, not victimization,” said The New York Times in their profile on Russell and Outside Child. Following the album’s release, Russell performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Ellen, Late Night With Stephen Colbert, CBS Saturday Morning, Austin City Limits, The Kelly Clarkson Show made her Opry debut and appeared at the Country Music Hall of Fame and performed at the 2022 GRAMMY’s Premiere Ceremony.

The accolades for Russell have been immense. In addition to her four GRAMMY Award nominations, she has earned three 2022 Americana Award nominations and a win for Album of the Year, two International Folk Music Award wins, a 2022 JUNO Award nomination for ‘Songwriter of the Year,’ and her first-ever JUNO Award win for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year. Russell received two 2021 Americana Awards nominations, won three Canadian Folk Music Awards, two UK Americana Music Awards, and more. She was recently nominated for Song of the Year and Artist of the Year for the 2023 Americana Awards. In addition, Russell has consistently used her newfound platform to elevate, educate and inspire; curating the history making Once And Future Sounds: Roots and Revolution set for the Newport Folk Festival in 2021 and mobilizing this year’s triumphant Love Rising All-Star benefit concert in support of LGBTQIA+ causes in Nashville - raising over $550,000 and calling national attention to Tennessee’s dangerous anti-trans and anti-drag laws. Russell has also announced a book deal with Flatiron/MacMillan for her debut novel, a memoir based on her life and the material that inspired Outside Child and The Returner.

Today, Abigail Lapell shares a haunting solo rendition of the iconic yiddish folk song Oyfn Pripitchek (“On The Hearth”). The track was recorded live-off-the-floor on vocals and finger style guitar, from her upcoming album, Lullabies, a mesmerizing collection of traditional songs from around the world, arranged and performed on classical guitar and vocals.

The song depicts a rabbi by the fireside, teaching little children the Hebrew alphabet. The mournful-sounding tune offers a cautiously hopeful message about the power of tradition, education and perseverance in the face of hardship.

MORE ABOUT LULLABIES
Recorded by Michael Timmins at his Toronto studio, the project includes songs in English, French, Hebrew, Spanish, Yiddish, German, Japanese, and Welsh and features original guitar and vocal arrangements and, in some cases, new English lyrical adaptations. Lullabies also includes one original song in English, based on a fragment of a half-remembered bedtime song from her mother.

Lapell’s first entirely solo recording, the project was inspired in part by a bout of insomnia during COVID-19 lockdowns, and fueled by the exigencies of isolation throughout 2021-2022. With repertoire drawn from her experience as an early childhood music educator, the album also coincided with the arrival of several new babies in Lapell’s extended family, and with her and her partner’s own journey trying to conceive.

Alternately sweet and foreboding, this body of work illuminates some of the darker themes lurking beneath the surface of so many beloved folk tunes. Like fairy tales and traditional ballads of all kinds, these story-songs often touch upon deeper cultural memories, spiritual lessons or cautionary tales. At the same time, their familiar and comforting imagery – the moon and stars in orbit; an intimate fireside tableau; landscapes shrouded in darkness – ultimately hold the promise of safe passage between waking and dreams, through the liminal space at the border between earthly and numinous realms. Above all, these lullabies are dedicated to dreamers of all ages, and to the eternal human quest for a good night’s sleep.

Abigail Lapell is an indie-folk songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Toronto. Her three albums have won three Canadian Folk Music Awards (English Songwriter of the Year in 2020 and 2023, and Contemporary Album of the Year in 2017) and garnered over 30 million Spotify streams. Lapell tours widely across Canada and the U.S., performing on vocals, harmonica, piano and finger-style guitar.
