“Saskatchewan's Katie Tupper makes the kind of soul-stained folk that feels instantly familiar, but it's her complex writing — vividly capturing the sights and smells of her home province, like the "fields of butter" on "How Can I Get Your Love?" — that makes her debut EP so anticipated, further calcifying the singer/songwriter's distinct and subtle touch.“ Exclaim!

“Tupper's smooth, neo-soul delivery is paired with a minimalist sound, often letting her honest songwriting shine in the forefront; definitely recommended for fans of Charlotte Day Wilson or Loony. .Her music helps us challenge the way we look back at events or people in our lives, always in search of ways to move forward with a set path and a clearer mind.” CBC Music

"[Katie Tupper] strikes a narrow balance between the vivid romanticism of soul and the hushed confessions of a folk singer/songwriter." - Under The Radar Magazine

"Katie Tupper pairs hard truths with soft sounds." - FLOOD Magazine

Katie Tupper, the rising soul singer from Saskatoon, follows her JUNO Award nominated sophomore EP Where To Find Me, with new track "Need Nothing", a groovy, toe-tapping alternative r&b song about unconditional love. "We wrote this song as a feel good confession of an endless stream of adoration," reflects Katie. "If nothing is given in return this feeling of love and willingness to express it will always be there."

MORE ABOUT WHERE TO FIND ME EP
“I feel so lucky and excited to be sharing this collection of songs,” says Tupper. “Each song I write and work on brings me one step closer to what I want my music to sound like. This EP is the closest I’ve felt yet. I really feel like my influences shine through in these songs and they feel really personal. I use music to try to figure myself out and to think about my identity.

Just before writing these songs, I was bouncing around a couple of new cities, meeting a lot of new people, and introducing myself to a lot of them. I experienced a lot of changes during those introductions. Some of those feelings and experiences are captured here.

Three of the songs on the project were written alongside my good friend Connor Seidel who is one of my favourite producers and musicians of all time. I love the worlds he builds with his production. I’m so excited for people to listen and to hear a few of the things I was feeling when I wrote this collection of songs.”

A former member of Saskatoon collective vbnd, her previous single, "Woman No" was the first single Where To Find Me. The track is a timeless soul ballad driven by Tupper's smokey vocals which soar over delicate finger-picked guitar and dreamy piano. "I wrote this song to my younger self," she explains. "I’m hoping it will defy time and space and tap into the brain of my teenage self. I want to give her advice to act on everything I was feeling rather than doing what looked right or seemed to be the correct choices."

Beneath the painted hues and infinite prairie skies of Saskatoon – a city in the heart of Canada – lies a soulful, creative spirit that proves there’s much more to the so-called ‘fly-over states’ than grassland and grain silos. Katie Tupper embodies that spirit and is determined to show there’s an entire world of boundary-pushing, genre-defying artists at work within the often overlooked region. Tupper's 2022 debut EP, Towards The End, received glowing acclaim from tastemakers like Zane Lowe and indie music press like Ones To Watch, Exclaim, Under The Radar, and FLOOD Magazine. She appeared on eTalk and recorded a filmed television performance for CBC. Tupper was one of four participants selected to be part of the 2023 Allan Slaight JUNO Master Class and one year later she has a JUNO Award nomination to go along with it.

“Wilson occupies a lane distinct from most burgeoning R&B stars and often allows her soulful music to be the center of attention.” - Billboard

“ Wilson directly channels soul music of decades past but also inhabits that same minimalist expanse occupied by so many of her contemporaries.” - NPR

“The Toronto singer-songwriter and producer’s vast voice is like a canyon that the sun can’t access; the percolating soul and quiet storm that surround it flicker like candlelight….Her voice—and what a voice, deep and passionate, cast in the mold of Anita Baker—feels less crepuscular, less intimate, and more capable of levitating cars and uprooting whole forests.” - Pitchfork

“She can shush viewers to silence with heart-wrenching lyrics and rile them up with a surprise saxophone solo—all in the same song.” - Harper’s Bazaar

“Blending elements of jazz, soul, folk, and R&B, Wilson writes deeply personal lyrics and delivers them with the expertise of a seasoned vocalist.” - Complex

“she's got the type of slow-burning, smoldering jazz and R&B-influenced sound that already feels classic.” - NYLON

“Charlotte expertly pulls inspirations from jazz, R&B and soul and what results is an atmosphere that is solely her own.” - Hypebeast

MORE ABOUT CYAN BLUE
Cyan Blue finds Wilson crafting a smoothly woven cyan tapestry of her eternal influences; thumping gospel piano, warm soul basslines, atmospheric electronics, and penetrating R&B melodies. Yet, it possesses a sense of vastness that rings in a new era for Wilson, one in which she’s embracing collaboration and newfound creative openness tinged with wistfulness and yearning and a reflection on youthful  innocence. Working with producers like Leon Thomas (SZA, Ariana Grande, Post Malone), and Jack Rochon (H.E.R, Daniel Caesar), Cyan Blue demonstrates Wilson’s sonic expertise while also showcasing the next evolution of her time-bending songwriting. Through 13 hypnotizing tracks, she continues to use music as a vessel for unpacking relationships, which in turn allows her to meet and understand herself in life-spanning, panoramic focus.

While this is only her second album, Wilson’s influence in music has made a major mainstream impact. Wilson broke out in 2016 with her critically acclaimed EP, CDW, followed by 2018’s Stone Woman and made her debut studio album an official coming out moment in 2021 with the critically acclaimed, self-released Alpha. Over the past decade, she’s been sampled by Drake, John Mayer, and James Blake, while Patti Smith has recently praised and covered Wilson’s 2016 breakout single “Work”. Additionally, she’s collaborated with artists like Kaytranada, BADBADNOTGOOD, and SG Lewis, demonstrating that there’s no sound Wilson can’t adapt to and sprinkle her cyan-colored magic over.

Today, HOMESHAKE — the long-running solo project of Toronto-based musician Peter Sagar — releases the single/video, “Basement”, from his new album, CD Wallet, out March 8 on Dine Alone Records, and announces a massive North America tour this fall. “Basement”, according to Peter, is an homage to the idea of the home basement, both as a place to hang out along with being the starting point for every band Peter has played in since he was a teenager. The video for “Basement” was shot by Jim Larson (who also directed the video for lead single “CD Wallet”) and features kaleidoscope-like images of Peter playing instruments in the basement among all the common artifacts you might find there. It’s a place of refuge and comfort and the fount of creativity for Peter.

Written and recorded over a majority of 2023 at Peter’s home studio in Toronto, CD Wallet takes place in his hometown of Edmonton, and touches on memories of growing up and the feeling of returning years later. Peter explains how the album was “made in a heavy, straightforward indie rock style to impress my childhood self” and addresses feelings of nostalgia and the trappings one finds themselves in when reflecting on years past.

CD Wallet also emphasizes Peter’s early fascination with guitar music: “Wake up, grandma why don’t you put on a little makeup,” or so he thought the lyrics went to “Chop Suey!” by System of a Down. Peter was flabbergasted; he sat, mouth open, with a copy of Guitar World magazine open to the tablature of “Chop Suey!” Reading the fine print with a magnifying glass completely stunned, knocked flat onto his back, he learned a guitar can be tuned much lower than he had expected! Drop C in fact. A tuning he uses to this day.

CD Wallet is the sixth HOMESHAKE full-length album and was mastered by Josh Bonati. “Early” from 2019’s Helium was featured in the fifth episode of HBO’s How To with John Wilson in 2020. Following 2021's Under The Weather, HOMESHAKE toured extensively across North America, Europe, and Asia. In 2022, he released Pareidolia Catalog, a six-volume, 126-track instrumental mixtape, accompanied by a collaborative cassette box set and t-shirt with Brain Dead. That same year, HOMESHAKE co-wrote and featured on Eyedress' “Spaghetti,” one of his first collaborations since "Love Is Only a Feeling" with Joey Bada$$ in 2017.

More new music is forthcoming in 2024 and HOMESHAKE will tour across North America this fall in support of it with live band members Greg Napier, Mark Goetz, and Brad Loughead.
