Hovvdy announce a 2025 North America headline tour in support of their acclaimed self-titled double album, Hovvdy, out now via Arts & Crafts. Hot on the heels of wrapping a full US tour with Beabadoobee, Hovvdy are also sharing “Jean (Julie’s Version)”, an alternate reimagining of album highlight “Jean”. Pre-sales begin tomorrow October 23rd with general on-sale starting on Friday October 25th at 10 am local time via the band’s website hovvdy.com/tour.

“We got together with Bennett Littlejohn to reimagine ‘Jean’. This arrangement is stripped back and offers more insight to how the song was written, with an acoustic guitar and a single voice,” Will Taylor explains.

Upon its release Hovvdy’s self-titled album was named Best New Music by Pitchfork, who called it “hushed and unassuming” and said it was “a capstone to their career so far, a scrapbook of moments of love and loss from a life well-lived.” Paste called it “brilliant,” UPROXX “some of the most understated yet no less disarming indie rock music in recent memory,” and Consequence “the most tender, thoughtful album yet, and it’s a testament to the duo’s songwriting journey over the last decade."

Hovvdy’s exploratory catalog has earned them status as a quiet favorite of rising stars – seen last year as Zach Bryan expressed admiration for Hovvdy’s album True Love and indie supergroup boygenius listed it as an inspiration for their record.

Today, Hildegard releases their new album Jour 1596, via Chivi Chivi. Hildegard is the musical project of Montreal-based artists and multi-instrumentalists Ouri and Helena Deland. The new album uses playful improvisation as its starting point, resulting in music that is ornate and raw, intimate, and deeply connected. Accented by delicate vocals and Ouri’s signature harp contributions, the two artists uphold the same “gradual mind meld” as noted by Pitchfork on their debut collaborative album that can only be birthed from true musical and creative alignment. The FADER praised the new record in their recent review noting it, “Succeeds at creating a sacred geometry in the angles between its jazz-inflected, avant-garde R&B,” and proclaimed the result as, “something divine.”

Speaking about the album Hildegard share, “Jour 1596 marks the contrast between the spontaneity of our first and second album. Though the process felt like a balancing act of perseverance and going tabula rasa, what made it onto the album stemmed in those unplanned, joyful moments, when playfulness came through amid the challenges of our expectations.”

Composed during yearly week-long retreats in the snowy seclusion of rural Québec, the new album is a significant departure from the spontaneous creation of their debut. While their first album emerged over just eight days, Jour 1596 was meticulously crafted over 1596 days, grappling with the challenges and expectations of following up their first effort. With contributions from Zach Frampton (piano), Christopher Edmondson (saxophone), Phil Melanson (drums) and Benja (guitar), Jour 1596 is a testament to Hildegard’s expanding soundscape, where the resilience of friendship, the joy of collaboration, and the inspiration drawn from musical legends and personal experiences resonate in each track, guiding listeners from a contemplative, reflective mood into a lighter one.

JASON COLLETT ANNOUNCES THE 2024 BASEMENT REVUE, WITH NEW GUEST CURATOR

JASON COLLETT’S BASEMENT REVUE RETURNS FOR ITS 16TH SEASON TO THE PARADISE ON BLOOR THIS DECEMBER FOR A HALF-MUSIC, HALF-LITERARY VARIETY SHOW

THIS YEAR, DESMOND COLE WILL GUEST CURATE THE NIGHT OF DECEMBER 12

TICKETS ON SALE NOW

"Part variety show, part vaudeville theatre, part improv act and part poetry slam, the Basement Revue is a cross-disciplinary carnival where anything can happen, and often does" - The Globe And Mail

This December at The Paradise on Bloor, the half-music, half-literary variety show with a rock-’n’-roll sensibility and a unique Canadian voice, otherwise known as The Basement Revue, returns again this year for five nights on December 5, 12, 19, 21 and 28 for another series of extraordinary evenings.

Hosted and curated by singer/songwriter Jason Collett and celebrated writer Emma Healey, the Basement Revue saw its inception on a wintry night in 2007 at Toronto’s Dakota Tavern, exploring what happens when artists of different disciplines share the stage together. This has made for exciting collaborations, such as Feist backing up Michael Ondaatje or Margaret Atwood stepping up to the mic in front of one of Toronto’s most celebrated bands and saying, with her characteristic deadpan wit, “hit it Sadies.” Combining a compelling mix of musicians, storytellers, and poets with the improvisational spirit of a kitchen party, The Basement Revue has blossomed into one of Canada’s most dynamic live event series.

Now, in its 16th year, The Basement Revue is breaking from tradition and are announcing in advance that this season will feature guest curator Desmond Cole. For the night of December 12th, the Toronto activist, journalist, and broadcaster will be given the keys to the show.

“We are very excited to include a notable guest host and curator for the December 12 show”, says Collett.  “The award winning writer, journalist, radio host and activist Desmond Cole will be dreaming up a very special evening of performers.”

MORE ABOUT THE BASEMENT REVUE
The Basement Revue presents the best emerging and established literary and musical talent of the country on stage in curated multi-disciplinary evenings. This kind of cross-pollinating is a one-of-a-kind format. The Globe and Mail said of its eighth season, “Part variety show, part vaudeville theatre, part improv act and part poetry slam, the Basement Revue is a cross-disciplinary carnival where anything can happen, and often does. The list of past participants reads like a who’s who of CanRock and CanLit, from Broken Social Scene to Sheila Heti and Cadence Weapon to Vincent Lam.”

In 2017, The Basement Revue partnered with Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) and New Constellations was born – a nation(s)wide tour celebrating Next Wave Indigenous music and writing. Bringing together Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists alike and featuring contributions from Polaris Music Prize winners Jeremy Dutcher and Lido Pimienta, as well as July Talk, Feist, Sam Roberts, Stars, Weaves, Billy Ray Belcourt, Naomi Klein and Leanne Betasamosake Simpson.

As is tradition for the Basement Revue, each night’s performers remain a surprise to the audience until they step on stage. Even the performers themselves are kept in the dark, adding an extra element of surprise to the evening. Past Basement Revues have boasted an impressive roster featuring Anne Waldman, Canisia Lubrin, Daniel Lanois, Tanya Tagac, Gord Downie, Rufus Wainwright, Marina Abromovic, Lee Maracle, Bahamas, Shad, Dennis Lee, Hal Wilner, CA Conrad, Weaves, Miriam Toews, Tanya Talaga, K-OS and more.
