NEW LP TO BE RELEASED IN 2025 VIA NEXT DOOR RECORDS

“[‘The Knife in Me’] is a musical melange in that it switches gears halfway through. In lesser hands such a move might not land, but Jarvis is capable in many modes.” — KCRW

"Angelic folk led by an acoustic guitar strum and harmonies that would make Crosby, Stills and Nash want to join in." — Billboard Canada on “The Knife in Me”

“[Yves Jarvis] compact[s] his beautiful mess of thoughts and sounds into tidy little boxes until they’re liable to burst.” — Pitchfork

Yves Jarvis — the moniker of Canadian musician Jean-Sébastien Yves Audet — releases the second single, “Gold Filigree”, from a forthcoming release out in early 2025 via Next Door Records. “Gold Filigree” is a warm mid-tempo track that feels like taking sips from a cup, or drags from a cigarette — vivid and self-contained in under four minutes. Yves describes the track as “romance and sensuality unmasking vulnerabilities necessary to love and be loved” and recommends it if you like “fornication, love-making, procreation, steak frites, Prince, Al Green, and Charlotte Day Wilson.”

“Gold Filigree” was recorded with all parts performed by Jarvis without a single additional contributor (“Not even one!”), transforming his acclaimed, three-time-Polaris Music Prize-longlisted vision into music which vibrates like a cosmic anthropology. Whereas Yves previously approached music as something sculptural—as compositions that emerge spontaneously from raw sonic material— "this time… I had actual parts. Instead of making a world, I thought: ‘I’m a band.” The goal became to articulate songs as purely and as simply as possible. "It's not about trying to tell my story, fit in, or achieve any goal”: “it’s about trying to express something I’ve learned: some information I’ve received” down the wire from the divine. The world’s full of love; it’s also full of mystery.

Today, Hildegard - the musical project of Montreal-based artists and multi-instrumentalists Ouri and Helena Deland - shares a new single “No Other Mind” out now on Chivi Chivi. The song follows their new album Jour 1596, which uses playful improvisation as its starting point, resulting in music that is ornate and raw, intimate, and deeply connected. The new single opens with a delicate harp melody and soft overlapping vocals weaving in and out.

The new album Jour 1596 was released to praise from The FADER noting the album, “Succeeds at creating a sacred geometry in the angles between its jazz-inflected, avant-garde R&B,” and proclaimed the result as, “something divine,” with NPR describing as, “Witty and sweet, exquisitely mixed” and “gorgeous.”

Composed during yearly week-long retreats in the snowy seclusion of rural Québec, the new album is a significant departure from the spontaneous creation of their debut. While their first album emerged over just eight days, Jour 1596 was meticulously crafted over 1596 days, grappling with the challenges and expectations of following up their first effort. With contributions from Zach Frampton (piano), Christopher Edmondson (saxophone), Phil Melanson (drums) and Benja (guitar), Jour 1596 is a testament to Hildegard’s expanding soundscape, where the resilience of friendship, the joy of collaboration, and the inspiration drawn from musical legends and personal experiences resonate in each track, guiding listeners from a contemplative, reflective mood into a lighter one.

“Stardust” Video Still

Today, Scenic Route to Alaska is thrilled to present the official music video for their latest single, “Stardust”, from the album Lasts Forever, an indie-rock gem that explores themes of love and existential musings against a cosmic backdrop. Drawing inspiration from the iconic black-and-white music videos of the 1980s, the visuals pay homage to the timeless aesthetics of artists like The Police and Elvis Costello. The video captures a stripped-back, evocative energy that perfectly complements the emotional depth of the track. With its nostalgic style and modern edge, “Stardust” is a bold rock statement from a band that continues to push their creative boundaries.

MORE ABOUT LASTS FOREVER
Born and raised in Edmonton, the trio of childhood best friends, Scenic Route to Alaska, has been a consistent force in Canada's music scene since 2011. With six albums already under their belt, the band (Trevor Mann, Shea Connor, and Murray Wood) is gearing up for their seventh release, Lasts Forever. The upcoming album promises a matured yet light-hearted sound, weaving catchy melodies with Trevor’s vocals as they navigate through themes of love, loss, and nostalgia.

Taking a new direction, the trio ventured into self-production for Lasts Forever after collaborating with notable producers like Howard Redekopp, Marcus Paquin, and Colin Stewart. Recorded live off the floor at Studio Bell, nestled in Calgary's National Music Center, the band had access to an impressive array of gear. Notably, the captivating, fret-buzzing guitar that kicks off the record is none other than Randy Bachman's vintage Stratocaster, channeled through Neil Young's 1958 amp affectionately known as "old nasty."

After capturing the bed tracks, Trevor took the reins, recording all the vocals in the comfort of Murray's basement, jokingly referred to as the Jazz Café. The name pays homage to an old neon sign that emits the only glow in the vocal booth. In this cozy and familiar space, where the band typically spends most of their time jamming, writing and hanging out, Scenic Route to Alaska added the finishing touches to Lasts Forever. The result is an exciting and authentic album that you'll play on repeat.
