“On Humanhood, Lindeman brings the earth-swallowing scope of climate change and social collapse to human size — this is a record as much about heartbreak and community and the body as it is about our slump toward catastrophe.  Across Humanhood, pain blooms like dandelions through the sidewalk, always making itself known. The record's power is in the way Lindeman tempers that pain with an abundance of light — Humanhood is a document of fear and loss, but never of defeat.” - Exclaim!, Cover Story

“[The Weather Station is] a band that supplies a jazzy, riffing, electroacoustic, evolving backdrop to Lindeman’s lyrics; the songs seem to bubble up out of live jams… the perspective in the songs is entirely her own, full of the 21st-century experience in all its disorientation and fleeting epiphanies.”  – New York Times, What Our Critics Are Looking Forward to in 2025

Tamara Lindeman explores the complex interplay of personal trust, climate activism, and finding connection in a world rife with misinformation.” RANGE

"Eco-friendly auteur documents her journey back from the frayed edge." -
MOJO, 'Album of the Month'

“What makes Humanhood remarkable is its ability to balance complexity with accessibility. The album shifts seamlessly between organic and synthetic textures, blending genres, instruments, and emotions with an improvisational yet intentional touch. It’s ever-changing, mirroring life’s unpredictability, asking the listener to sit with discomfort and find beauty within it.”
Northern Transmissions

"[Tamara Lindeman’s] vocals are as delicate as they are forceful, as transportive as the escapist tale she sings of. Even from the singles alone, Humanhood is an easy shoo-in for one of 2025’s early highlights.” - Uproxx on “Window”

“Few artists have put out as much good music this decade as Tamara Lindeman.” - Paste

The Weather Station releases “Mirror,” the final single off Humanhood, her new album out this Friday via Next Door Records. Following the “breathtakingly pretty” (Stereogum) “Body Moves,” “Mirror” is laid onto the ongoing backdrop of the climate crisis, battling theories of human nature. Lindeman sings: ‘You were dousing your fields in a chemical rain, you were cutting my arm to transcend your own pain / Oh but god is a mirror - everything is.’ “The confrontation is gentle, because I’ve been there too," Lindeman explains. “But life and nature is a giant biofeedback machine. What you put out there responds. And you respond; you can’t help it. That’s what is always happening. That’s one of the many things I meant when I said ‘god is a Mirror.’”

“Mirror” features straight drums hitting up against soft draped piano, resulting in organic and synthetic tones doubling and splitting apart. Lindeman comments, “I wanted the song to warp and disintegrate; to come in and out of being like the imaginary scaffold that holds up a fantasy or cognitive dissonance. In the end, the band grows garbled and comes apart, giving way to a suspension of synth and string textures. I wanted it to feel like being bathed in light; maybe the light I was talking about in the song.”

MORE ABOUT HUMANHOOD
Humanhood is radiant and propulsive; discursive and strange. Songs dissemble into washes of strings, fall apart completely. Textures coalesce and fragment, harden into songs; give way again to abstract instrumental passages which carry the listener from song to song. Clear, powerful pop songs fade into view or arrive all of a sudden; before abrupt turns, tonal shifts, acid wash synth fadeouts. It’s the weirdest Weather Station record yet - and the most visceral. It’s also the strongest, the most cinematic, the most complete as an evocation of an inner landscape. Each song mirrors, sonically and musically, the state of mind described in the lyric; moving from distant to claustrophobic, overwhelming to beautiful. Listened front to back, the album transcribes a journey from dissociation back towards connection; a journey echoed in form, in sound, and lyric - and in the making of the record itself.

The Weather Station will kick off a North American tour this coming spring following an extensive U.K. and European tour beginning this month. A full list of dates can be found below, and tickets can be purchased here

Today, CJ Wiley is sharing another new single from their upcoming debut LP, So Brand New, set for release February 28, 2025 via Tiny Kingdom. “Don’t Die Charlie” arrives on the heels of recent singles “Cheap Therapy”, “No One Like U”, and “Adelaide”, and “is about my decade-long battle with addiction and the grief I still carry for the friends I lost along the way,” shares CJ. “It holds vivid memories, taking me back to high school when everything felt so chaotic, though I didn’t fully realize how dark things really were at the time. There’s a sense of guilt that comes with surviving, knowing how easily it could’ve been me who didn’t make it out. Writing this song helped me make sense of it all. It’s for anyone who’s lost someone and still feels their presence.”

MORE ABOUT SO BRAND NEW
A groundswell of gripping slacker rock, non-binary singer-songwriter CJ Wiley doesn’t waste any time. Twirling guitars, a steady drum beat, crunchy bass; ballads twanged slightly country, anthems skewed slightly grunge; a message of love and anger, healing and rancour; all of which are found on their debut LP, So Brand New.

Produced by Boy Golden, So Brand New is a journey through the ever-shifting landscapes of identity and self-acceptance. This album explores embracing change and finding comfort in the continuous evolution of who we are. It delves into themes of grief, nostalgia, queer love, struggles with drug addiction, and the rejection of gender performance, while also addressing the absurdity of how expensive it is just to be alive these days. At its core, the album reflects the idea that no one is ever just one thing; we are all fluid, constantly adapting through the various stages of our lives.

So Brand New is a journey through the ever-shifting landscapes of identity and self-acceptance, embracing change and finding comfort in the continuous evolution of who we are. The album reflects on the feeling of having lived multiple lives within a single lifetime and confronts the irresistible urge to reinvent and start again. It delves into themes of grief, nostalgia, queer love, struggles with drug addiction, and the rejection of gender performance, while also addressing the absurdity of how expensive it is just to be alive these days. At its core, it captures the idea that no one is ever just one thing; we are all fluid, constantly adapting through the various stages of our lives.

Growing Out My Hair" marks "a pivotal moment in embracing my non-binary identity and breaking away from societal expectations of androgyny," says Wiley. "In "People Please," I challenge the music industry’s ideals of who I should be and what will make me successful, reflecting on my attempts to fit that mold before realizing I’d rather create art that truly represents me. Meanwhile, "Adelaide" is a heartfelt tribute to chosen family and the conscious choice to love and grow together instead of growing apart. The title track, "So Brand New," captures the seductive essence of finding ourselves within others, discovering parts of our identity through alluring new perspectives.”

So Brand New blends deeply emotional and uplifting tracks with a slacker rock vibe, seamlessly marrying introspective singer-songwriter elements with a polished, radio-friendly sound. Featuring ballads with a hint of country twang and anthems that skew slightly grunge, it creates a unique experience characterized by rich, textured arrangements and candid lyricism. This collection serves as a musical reflection on identity and the courage it takes to let go of who others think we should be, embracing the full range of who we’re becoming. The result is a set of songs that feel both intimately personal and universally relatable, celebrating the transformative journey of self-discovery and the acceptance of our ever-changing selves.

MORE ABOUT CJ WILEY
Performing alongside artists like Tokyo Police Club, Shannon and the Clams, or Haley Blais, and already a mainstay in the city’s queer music scene as the host of the Big Gay Night concert series, Wiley introduces themselves in songs as categorical and entrancing as the sold-out shows they organize. Aflame in a stirring spectrum of soulful Sheryl Crow Americana and the electric grumblings of Garbage or Hole, sometimes in the space of a single song, Wiley’s distinct voice carries their project with the wit, candour, and excitement of an artist with a striking perspective and a heart that demands to be heard.

Today, producer/artist and multi-instrumentalist Maddie Jay releases their debut album, I Can Change Your Mind. The album was written over two years “where I was relentlessly touring on a large scale for the first time in my life,” says Jay. “My world was expanding and my self perception became tumultuous, ricocheting between extreme self confidence and rock bottom self esteem. Very basic realities of adulthood seemed bizarrely out of reach. I needed a place to express myself. I wanted to be a voice whispering into the abyss—’fuck this is really difficult’ and going forward and thriving regardless.”

Included on Exclaim’s Most Anticipated Albums of 2025, they describe the record as “a diaphanous landscape of dreamy tape loops, breathy word-painting tinged with artful Auto-Tune, and the occasional Aphex Twin electronic breakdown.”

To help celebrate the album’s release, Maddie Jay is also sharing the new single, “Stop Me If I’ve Told You This Story”, one of the first songs written for the album. “I wrote it completely alone in the desert about the euphoria of the feeling that I was finally finding my footing and finally being comfortable in my skin after a lifetime of feeling like a bit of an alien."

MORE ABOUT I CAN CHANGE YOUR MIND
“I wrote many of these songs over improvised tape loops that I recorded with my dear friends in hazy late night studio sessions,” Maddie explains. “I wanted to create a sonic bed that felt organic, nostalgic, immersive and emotionally cathartic. Working outside of solitude was a challenge for me, however I feel the end result resonates much stronger than something I would have created alone, which is probably a lesson in itself.”

“The style of songwriting I chose to pursue for this project came about while reflecting on my past projects,” Maddie continues. “I realized when listening to some of those old lyrics that I had unknowingly narrated the subtleties of an abusive relationship, described the feeling of intense codependence, and exposed my inner workings in some unflattering ways, all while thinking I was writing simple love songs.

“Each of these tracks was born in an effort to crystalize a feeling of overwhelm in my life over the last two years. They speak from within the headspace of addiction, loss of control, isolation, mania, codependence, and fear that I will never reach my full potential. By allowing myself to become an unreliable narrator, I felt able to understand the volatile internal negotiation between the person I am, and the person I aspire to be.”
