Allison Russell recently announced her third studio album, In The Hour of Chaos, arriving on July 10, 2026 via Fantasy Records. The album, produced by Russell and Dim Star, is a fervent plea for connection in this time of alienation, isolation and dread. It’s an album that is meant to make you feel GOOD and, in these times, feeling good is a radical act. Today, this Juneteenth, she shares the album’s latest song, “Black Lavender” featuring the earthy soul of Brittney Spencer.

Of “Black Lavender,” Russell notes:
“We are swimming in rivers - flash floods! - of adrenaline right now. ‘Black Lavender’ is a song about extending grace and soothing comfort to a chosen sister…the kind I have trouble extending to myself…But the beautiful thing is, she’s the same way - and she gives it all back and some. Brittney Spencer is a voice for all the ages who we NEED right now. We saved this song for Juneteenth for a reason. Black women have been showing up for each other in this way as long as we’ve been here, and we can’t stop won’t stop now!
Incomparable
That’s what we all are, you know?
Precious, Magical

The songs on Allison Russell’s In the Hour of Chaos are meant to reverse the tides that pull us farther and farther apart, even from ones we love the most. It’s only fitting that Russell leaned into her vibrant and ever expanding community of artists and friends to create a collaborative song suite that goes far beyond a succession of features.

On Sunday, June 28, Allison will join community leader Rep. Justin Jones (TN-52) in a conversation at The National Museum of African American Music in Nashville at 3pm CT about “Building Civic Engagement and Community In The Hour Of Chaos.” They will discuss how to remain strong and create joy during tumultuous times; in the midst of targeting, how to find strength in ourselves and for our neighbors.

Today’s release of “Black Lavender” follows recent single “Cold April”, a track showing  intergenerational depth by featuring her tourmate Kara Jackson —  a recent collaborator of the Gorillaz and formerly the U.S. National Youth Poet Laureate; Denitia – a CMT Next Women of Country selection who was also featured in Dolly Parton’s Threads: My Songs in Symphony; and the Explore! Pop Choir featuring Russell’s daughter, Ida. It also follows the early song “No Springtime” featuring Joy Oladokun and Julie Williams.

The songs on In the Hour of Chaos unfold like a series of one act plays with Allison, who joins with an artist(s) from her rainbow diaspora, many from her adopted home in Nashville. Tactile, vulnerable, raw, soothing, sensual, sad – each is a little capsule of humans being fully human and fully present. Allison Russell curates her collaborators with care including Norah Jones’ intimate ease on “Really Real” and Ruby Amanfu’s vulnerable grace on “Just Like Saturday” – all serve as portals into our flawed, fantastic, interconnected lives.

Elsewhere, Devon Gilfillian brings effortless warmth to “Love is a Golden Lion”, Kashus Culpepper lends grit and swagger to “Searchlight”, Chibueze Ihuoma adds an otherworldly tenderness to “Two Stars”, and Ahya Simone’s incomparable harp closes the circle with the haunting “Good Omens”. Across these songs, Russell holds the center effortlessly, while illuminating the voices of her chosen family. She turns these throughlines into golden thread, strengthening as she weaves, the only protection she knows against the chaos of this hour.

Allison Russell just completed her second run on Broadway as Persephone in the 8x Tony Award winning musical Hadestown. She took over the role in November 2024 initially, after spending much of that year opening for Hozier on his Unreal Unearth Tour supporting his arena run on all US dates and throughout Europe. She made her Billboard Hot 100 debut thanks to their duet Wildflower & Barley”.

Russell recently took the stage at the JUNO Awards to pay tribute to fellow Canadian, Joni Mitchell. The performance was a duet between her and Sarah McLachan who she will tour with throughout the summer. Dates kick off on July 1st in Franklin, TN. A full list of tour dates is below.

On her sophomore album, Forever Beginner, Emma Worley tucks grief, joy, humour, and pain into the same fold. Emerging during a transformative period in her life, one shaped by chronic illness, treatment, healing, and resilience, Forever Beginner is an open-hearted, self-reckoning body of work.

Having already shared the album’s first single, “Buddy”, today Worley reveals the pensive break up song “Comedy Club”. The track is about the “impossibility of fully understanding what we have while we have it,” explains Worley. “Weighing the scales of a relationship - what it gave, what it took, what was lost, and what might have been - the song reflects on the limits of hindsight and the stories we tell ourselves to make sense of the past. Set against a foggy late-night drive through an old neighbourhood, ‘Comedy Club’ describes the imprint of love lost.”

MORE ABOUT FOREVER BEGINNER
Blending alternative folk and Americana, the album was crafted over two years with producer, multi-instrumentalist, and longtime collaborator Ben Whiteley (The Weather Station, Joan Shelley). The arrangements are a textural delight, with Worley’s tender voice and poignant songwriting at the centre. Featuring the talents of Julian Psihogios, Jasper Smith, Matt Kelly, Kendel Carson, Dylan Burchell, Will Kidman, Wyatt C. Louis, Lia Pappas Kemps, Tamara Lindeman, Ken Whiteley, Georgia Harmer, and more, Forever Beginner is both a shining emblem of Toronto’s remarkable music community.

MORE ABOUT EMMA WORLEY
Hailing from Guelph, Ontario, and now residing in Toronto, Worley spent many years dedicated to a career as an emerging visual artist. Upon graduating from the Ontario College of Art and Design University, Worley garnered attention for her sculpture/installation work through exhibitions, installations, and residencies at various high-profile institutions. However, despite her burgeoning success in the visual-arts world, Worley found herself compulsively drawn towards creating the material that would become her debut album, Sentimentalist. Pulling from lived experience, triumph, heartbreak, and everything in between, the wisdom and grace of this collection is telling of Worley's dedication to relatable storytelling and emotional finesse.

Gizmo are Charlottetown rockers inspired by the guitar-damaged pop of 1990s American slacker bands and their contemporaries on Canada’s east coast. A 120 Minutes band for the Gen Z set, they breathe new life into their vintage influences with a distinctive songwriting style and a frenetic live show.

All Your Worships, Gizmo's debut full-length, comes roaring out of the gate, picking up right where 2023’s livewire Buddy System EP left off without skipping a beat. The new material finds the band mining similar sources but reaching new heights, imbuing their carefully considered, structurally ambitious power-pop songwriting with more unexpected twists and turns. To record it, the band decamped to a converted community hall in Great Village, Nova Scotia with co-producers Alex Edkins (METZ, Weird Nightmare) and Loel Campbell (Wintersleep) in tow. They pulled 12-hour days, sleeping at the studio and capping off nights with drunken music listening sessions. The group bonded over their overlapping tastes, able to share a common language when referencing sounds and direction. Edkins and Campbell mixed the record, with Greg Obis (Stuck, Clearance) providing the finishing touches at Chicago Mastering Service.

Today, they share the new single, “Gift Shop”, a song that frontman Julien Kitson says “came to me after coming home to bleak winter conditions from a visit to Nashville. The trip gave me sudden inspiration for various reasons and when arriving home Gift Shop poured out of me in a brief amount of time. It is forever known to me as my first sonic attempt at a love letter.”

MORE ABOUT ALL YOUR WORSHIPS
The material was hashed out at rehearsals and live shows from 2022-2025, with the band taking a more collaborative approach to composition. This is in stark contrast to Buddy System, largely written solo by frontman Julien Kitson. This time around, each member brought songwriting contributions — bassist Spencer Swaine and guitarist Patrick Stephen take up lead vocals on their tracks “Crystal Palace” and “Faulty Straight Edge Downfall”, respectively. This does not diffuse a clear sense of direction, though. The lyrics take a stream-of-consciousness, observational approach to themes of heartache and coming of age, all topped off by a whip-smart deployment of non-sequiters, inside jokes, and maritime colloquialisms.

The arrangements further compound this unified vision; crisp acoustics, warped offset riffs, melodic basslines, and the laserpoint precision of drummer Daniel Hartinger merge to create an underlying sonic palette. This cohesion is what makes the record's diversity work — standout tracks like "Antiques Roadshow”, “Celestial”, and album closer “Pantone 312” are disparate on the surface, but all unmistakably Gizmo. All Your Worships is a 10-track mission statement from the rare breed of band that arrives fully-formed, confidently settling into their first LP and suggesting a myriad of possibilities for the future.

MORE ABOUT GIZMO
Formed in Charlottetown in 2021, their debut four-song EP Buddy System was released in August 2023. Its guitar-driven melodies and catchy hooks quickly earned them a growing audience and won them Rock Recording of the Year at the Music PEI Awards. Following its release, the band signed a publishing deal with CYMBA Music Publishing and continued writing and refining new material in rehearsal spaces and on the road.

Early on, the band toured steadily, building a devoted fanbase through their live performances, sharing stages with acts like Wintersleep, Paper Lions, Cootie Catcher, and Two Hours Traffic, and playing festivals such as Sommo Festival, Project Nowhere, and Nowadays Fest.\

In 2025, following a standout performance at Showcase PEI, the band signed to both Victory Pool Records and Noisemaker Management and quickly landed summer 2026 festival slots at Hillside and Paris Drinks Fest.
