Tommy Lefroy has announced their debut album, The Precariat, due October 23, 2026 via Thirty Tigers. Written over six years between itinerant stays in Nashville, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Michigan, and London, The Precariat takes its name from the economic term describing a growing class of people living with increasing instability and uncertainty. Throughout the album, Tommy Lefroy’s Wynter Bethel and Tessa Mouzourakis weave together literary, artistic, and musical influences – from Virginia Woolf, tradwives and suffragettes, to Springsteen’s paradoxical patriotism – balancing sharp cultural observation with warmth and emotional honesty, ultimately offering connection as the antidote to uncertainty.

Co-produced by the band alongside Stephen Sesso, with executive production from Mike Crossey (The 1975, Arctic Monkeys, MUNA), the album offers an unflinching capture of the uncertainty and anxiety permeating our collective psyche, along with the universality of precarity, despite its tendency to isolate.

Today, Tommy Lefroy also shares the new single "Thief" alongside an official music video directed by Emmy Award-nominated artist and photographer Brendon Burton.

"Thief" serves as one of the album's emotional centerpieces. One of the first songs Bethel and Mouzourakis wrote together nearly seven years ago, it reflects on the visceral toll of grief and coming to terms with time spent on a lost cause. The accompanying music video, directed by Burton, finds the band in vignettes of abandoned spaces across the North American plains. Houses reclaimed by mold and moss, decaying ephemera, and relics of obsolete technology frame the band as they sing ‘I just wanna feel / shiny and new’.

"The title refers to things lost along the way, how they sometimes feel taken, by time, or by people who've left us,” says the band. “The chorus came to Wynter in a parking lot, while driving for Postmates in Nashville. The song always felt special to us, like a thesis of how we felt in our early twenties. We held on to this song for years knowing we wanted it to be on our first album, and the feelings the song expresses, of perpetual strife and inadequacy, felt more relevant than ever in the context of The Precariat."

"CG Tears Is Your New Favourite Indie Supergroup. The Calgary trio's long-awaited debut transforms decades of friendship into something entirely new." RANGE

A collaboration between cryptic folk-influenced songwriter Clinton St. John (The Cape May, Pale Air Singers, Florida BC), producer and multi-instrumentalist Morgan Greenwood (Baths), and acclaimed solo artist, animator and illustrator Chad VanGaalen, CG Tears is the result of a trio of veteran musicians embracing mutual admiration and shared inspiration. Unexpected, elliptical, but always accessible, it’s the sound of three singular artists discovering just how well their eccentricities work together.

Following the announcement of their debut self-titled album and the first single, “Blue Wall Of Ectoplasm”, today they’re sharing another track, “I’m Falling Up”. Of the new song, the band says, “there is a person here, and they are falling. It’s uncertain if they are falling up or down, but they are definitely changing form as this is happening.”

MORE ABOUT CG TEARS
For the better part of 12 years, CG Tears was an intention more than it was a band. An expression of mutual admiration between songwriter Clinton St. John and producer Morgan Greenwood, the idea of a collaboration was pitched in 2013 but never quite coalesced. Musical ideas were shared, but with Greenwood uprooting himself to Los Angeles and joining the live incarnation of Will Wiesenfeld’s Baths and St. John pursuing his muse through a string of solo releases and a burgeoning visual arts practice, the project never quite found its footing.

That changed after 2020. Back in Calgary, Greenwood joined St. John’s latest project Florida BC, contributing synths to several tracks to their dark, folk-inflected debut. Always a prolific producer, Greenwood took the opportunity to share some of his latest creations with St. John, and this time it stuck. The skittering rhythms and echo-drenched synth pads of the tracks were worlds away from the dirge-like guitars of Florida BC, but they became a minor obsession for St. John, who set to work recording snippets of vocals and fleshing out lyrical themes.

Moving from those initial ideas to finished songs was a process of discovery as much as creation, with St. John acting as musical dowsing rod searching for deeper wells of inspiration. Lyrics and melodies were improvised in stream-of-consciousness sessions, then sent to Greenwood for reassurance and revision. Themes and narratives would emerge from the depths, images suggesting themselves and pointing in unexpected directions. And with each iteration and each refinement, the two were increasingly convinced they’d struck on something special, a stream of impressionistic poetry and IDM production channeled squarely into the realm of pop.

Eventually they had what they felt was a finished album, handing it to multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer Chad VanGaalen to make the final mix. VanGaalen agreed to the task but disagreed that the album was done. To his ears, the songs were promising but incomplete, and he asked to take a more active role than just tweaking the mix. The duo indulged the request, and VanGaalen set to work recording additional instrumentation, adding backing vocals, and rounding out arrangements. Whatever skepticism there was quickly fell to the side; once they heard the additions, it was clear that CG Tears was a trio.

The resulting album is an unexpected pop gem. Fusing hazy Warp Records productions with off-kilter hooks and psychedelic undercurrents, it’s atmospheric and elliptical but always accessible. A dozen years in the making, it’s the sound of three singular artists discovering just how well their eccentricities work together.

LOONY SHARES “RaGDOLL”, FIRST NEW SINGLE OF THE YEAR

For years, there was one particular story LOONY couldn't bring herself to write. An abusive relationship of the past remained secret, not necessarily because she didn't know how to tell it, but because she wasn't ready to hear herself say it out loud.

"I'm not really sure what happened," she says. "It just kind of bubbled over one day and I found myself screaming things into a microphone." Those moments became the first traces of “RaGDOLL”, an unexpected new single from rising alt pop star.

"I think true anger is an emotion I have a hard time authentically portraying, especially when it's on my own behalf," she reflects. "It's somehow more vulnerable and private to me than crying - and I think that's by design, how young girls get socialized." That realization became less about revisiting the past than discovering a part of herself that had never before existed in her music. Ragdoll isn't interested in resolution—it's the sound of an artist finding a new emotional language in real time.

That emotional shift extends far beyond the lyrics and concept. “RaGDOLL” marks the beginning of a bold new chapter in LOONY's artistic world, expanding beyond the dreamy R&B that first introduced her into something darker, more cinematic and increasingly difficult to define. Genre lines begin to dissolve as analogue recording techniques, tape saturation and distortion become extensions of the emotion itself rather than aesthetic choices. Moments of hushed intimacy erupt into towering, almost theatrical passages, creating a sound that's as textured as it is visceral.

The result isn't a departure for the sake of reinvention, it's a body of work that seemed to have demanded a different sonic language to tell the truth.

“RaGDOLL” doesn't announce a new era so much as reveal an artist stepping more fully into herself. It's music that embraces contradiction: softness alongside abrasion, intimacy beside spectacle, precision giving way to chaos. Bigger, riskier and more sonically adventurous than anything she's released before, it captures LOONY at the point where emotional honesty and artistic ambition finally begin to sound like the same thing.

MORE ABOUT LOONY
A dynamic and captivating artistic force, LOONY’s emotionally-charged, genre-defying compositions meld beautiful melodies with introspective lyrics, leaving an indelible mark within the hearts of her listeners. LOONY’s songs emote effortlessly and hint at the meaning behind her name: “My friends say I’m spacey as hell, I'm often in my own little world” she explains. Nevertheless, they carry weight.

The songs on her JUNO Award nominated debut self-titled album LOONY, invite audiences on a journey through the complexities of girlhood. Over the course of two years in between studios in Los Angeles, London, and Rome LOONY wrote and recorded her stunning debut with support from producers Dan Farber, Akeel Henry, adamjosh and Aaron Paris, among others. LOONY possesses the singer-songwriter’s unwaveringly raw introspection, instinct for unpacking complex emotions and experience, and innate passion for storytelling. Widening her sonic range, the album emphasizes her essential process of collection, touching on personal experiences and honing in specifically on themes of impermanence, change, endings and new beginnings.
