Toronto-born, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter STACEY returns with her lush psych-pop offering “Upside Down Merry Go Round”, her first original release in five years. STACEY is also set to perform single release shows in Toronto tomorrow at Osler Records, tickets available here.

“Upside Down Merry Go Round” lands somewhere between Carole King and Tame Impala, the song captures the kaleidoscopic anxieties and emotional whiplash that come with existing in a modern timeline: paying bills, joining Zoom calls, chasing dreams, and carrying on while the world seems to unravel around us. We all want off the Upside Down Merry Go Round.

“I wanted to encapsulate the disorienting juxtaposition of day-to-day existence against the backdrop of worldly chaos, not only through the lyrics but also through the songwriting and production,” explains STACEY. “The drop to half-time in the choruses mirrors the relentless highs and lows of doom-scrolling. The song also has this feel-good quality that sits in contrast with the lyrics — like a rainbow-coloured panic attack.”

Co-written by STACEY and Suzanne May (aka Fonteyn) and produced by STACEY and Dillon Casey (Weyes Blood, Orville Peck, Ethel Cain), the track also features Loren Humphrey (Cameron Winter, Geese) on drums and Tim McNalley (Dominic Fike, Baby Rose) on bass.

The accompanying video, filmed on 16mm by DP Gus Bendinelli (Lana Del Rey, Sabrina Carpenter), was directed and produced by STACEY and extends the song into a meticulously handmade surrealist dreamscape. “Aesthetically, I was loosely going for a 1970s Jodorowsky meets The Love Witch vibe with a sprinkle of Cher, but always myself — mostly letting my Facebook Marketplace prop finds and fashion choices guide the way.”

To create the edible horses in the video, STACEY 3D-scanned the merry-go-round (a Facebook Marketplace find) and 3D-printed a miniature replica of one of its horses. Longtime collaborator and makeup artist Christina Spina then created a mold, which STACEY used to pour and hand-paint the coloured chocolate horses. A limited batch of the chocolates will be available for purchase, exclusively at the Toronto and LA release shows.

MORE ABOUT STACEY
STACEY’s not like the other time travelers. A homebody, a yearner’s yearner at a windowpane with a Wurlitzer, a silk caftan, and a doomed dream, STACEY one-womans a retro-celestial holiday agency for lonesome escapists, crystallizing the nostalgic longing of golden age pop records into lyrical refractions for the twenty-first century.

Cruising from 60s psychedelic day-trips to glossy 70s daydreams, STACEY’s velvet textures have received glowing press from the likes of SPIN, LadyGunn, American Songwriter, Clash Magazine, WONDERLAND, Refinery29, and more, while her luxurious, lucid voice has found support from industry tastemakers including Matt Wilkinson (Apple Music), Chris Douridas (KCRW, School Night), Errol Nazareth (CBC), Lauren Laverne (BBC6 Music), and more.

Logging the aftermath of the great conjunction between Jupiter and Saturn, STACEY’s 2021 debut LP Saturn Return sits at the heart of a catalogue that has amassed over 8 million streams on Spotify, alongside singles “These Days” (2026) and “Christmas in California” (2023), and EPs First Move (2017), Reconstruction (STACEY Remixes), and STACEY (2013). From the baroque to the bohemian, STACEY’s compositions have soundtracked more than 15 television series and films, including Spinning Out (Netflix), Hollywood Stargirl (Disney+), Lucifer, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, Orphan Black, and Degrassi.

A devout world-builder, STACEY directed and produced the Barbarella-in-a-Futuro-spaceship fantasy of Strange But I Like It, which beamed its way to the #1 spot on Zelects — Mark Ronson’s Zelig Records’ weekly top-five music video list (2021). Elsewhere in the STACEY dimension: a six-hour, out-of-this-world 60s body-paint metamorphosis for Saturn Return, and a paper collage and animated colour explosion for D.M.T.

STACEY’s kaleidoscopic, empyreal live presence has led her to share stages with Charlotte Day Wilson, Tamino, Vinyl Williams, and Cameron Avery (Tame Impala), and seen her appear at high profile showcases on Canadian national television (CTV’s Your Morning and Global Morning) and for the Royal Ontario Museum’s 75th Anniversary of Christian Dior Exhibit.

Meanwhile, in her online bunker @STACEYMUSIC, devotees to 60s and 70s inspiration gather round to enshrine pop-culture ephemera — a labour of love, deifying McCartney and Pink Floyd, disco and drop-outs, The Love Witch and The Trip, Pamela Des Barres and Antonioni, Edie and Cher, Vernor Panton furniture and fashion designers à la Pierre Cardin, Pucci, Rudi Gernreich, Paco Rabanne, and Marimekko.

Today, So Faint, the collaborative project of Lyn Heinemann and Hannah Georgas, is sharing another new single from the upcoming self-titled album, October 16, 2026 on a new label founded by Georgas called Beetle Bomb Records.

“Chain Chain Chain” is about “choosing commitment while quietly knowing the relationship feels broken,” the pair explain. “Not because there’s no love, but because love alone isn’t fixing what’s broken. It's driven by history, loyalty, and the weight of having built something together. Staying becomes a choice grounded in commitment rather than desire.”

MORE ABOUT SO FAINT
So Faint was born from a chance encounter in a Vancouver recording studio and shaped by a decade-long friendship. After years on separate paths, with Lyn stepping away from bands, but still writing music for herself and Hannah building an acclaimed international music career that has recently seen her join Broken Social Scene for their latest LP Remember The Humans, the two reunited in 2023 to create the music they’d been quietly missing.

Their self-titled debut lands with the kind of quiet confidence that makes its charms feel inevitable. The melodies are sticky in an unflashy, hard-to-engineer way, unfurling gently before looping back in your mind hours later. There’s a coziness to these songs, but it’s paired with a sense of discovery: crunchy guitar hooks and bright melodic turns slip into subtly shifting time signatures, nudging the arrangements just far enough off-center to keep things alive. It’s music that clearly understands pop structure, but treats it less like a blueprint and more like a suggestion. The record’s real momentum comes from the push and pull between its two songwriters, Hannah Georgas and Lyn Heinemann. Their sensibilities orbit the same melodic gravity while arriving from different trajectories, and the tension between those approaches gives the album its shape. You can hear the seriousness with which both approach songwriting, not in any heavy-handed way, but in the careful balance of instinct and restraint that lets these songs feel both effortless and meticulously built.

Lyrically, the album is unflinching but never heavy-handed. Heinemann’s reckoning with the sudden death of a best friend and the collapse of a long-term relationship threads through songs about dissolution, isolation, and the strange administrative aftermath of grief. Georgas counters and compliments those themes with hard-won reflections on partnership, on inching forward out of depression and doubt. The writing is wry, self-aware, attentive to the quiet absurdities of adult expectation.

What makes So Faint addictive isn’t just its craft, it’s the tension humming underneath. The songs carry dark subject matter with disarming lightness, and an understanding that adulthood rarely offers clean narrative arcs. Instead, it gives us overlapping timelines of loss and possibility. The record sits squarely in that overlap and distills it into sharp, deceptively buoyant pop songs.

There's a rare perspective here. One half stayed in the ever-changing music industry, while the other left it to pursue a career in healthcare. Years later, they met back in the middle, sifted through the wreckage, and still found a common thread. That shared history and what they have to say about it is uniquely theirs.

LARKK’S NEW INSTRUMENTAL VERSION OF DEBUT LP, OUT TODAY

DANIELLE MCTAGGART’S (DEAR ROUGE) INSTRUMENTAL VERSION OF DEBUT LP, CINDERS, AS LARKK OUT TODAY

PRAISE FOR CINDERS

“Opener “Cinders” and it showcases exactly what makes the record effective, as it starts as a slow ballad accompanied by atmospheric sounds and a steady piano. It builds until it quite literally soars. “Devastation’s Bliss” is a powerful rumination on a past not lived, while cinematic “Cuckoo” builds out a world all its own. There are comparisons to be drawn to artists like Regina Spektor and Feist, sure, but Larkk sees McTaggart forging her own distinct path, one in which each song twists and turns.” The Georgia Straight

“With 10 atmospheric and poetic tunes, Larkk‘s music could be described as both meditative and curative.” The Vancouver Sun

“Cinders is an intensely personal, piano-driven exercise in vulnerability. The instrument and the artist's voice are the foundational bedrock, as McTaggart casts aside the electrifying fringe- and sparkle-laden trappings of rock 'n' roll to transform before our very eyes and reintroduce herself without artifice.” Exclaim!, 2026 Most Anticipated Albums

Larkk is Danielle McTaggart (Dear Rouge) in a new form, born from her desire for deeper artistic exploration. Today, she releases the instrumental version of her debut album, Cinders (Instrumental). "Larkk began as a collaboration between myself and the piano, composing instrumental pieces that eventually grew to include my voice,” says McTaggart. “I am thrilled to share these songs in their original, instrumental form—returning them to exactly where they started.”
