Named “One of the most interesting bands out of Toronto right now” by Pigeons & Planes, Bernice's sparse arrangements and pop-minded songwriting often follow curious and unexpected paths. Puff precedes a full-length album due later this year.

Following a run of spring Canada tour dates that just concluded with a performance at Toronto's Field Trip Festival, which Exclaim! called “a testament to the band's sense and ownership of their unique sound”, Bernice will be embarking on a summer UK/EU tour supporting Martha Wainwright.

Puff is available to pre-order digitally here, and as a limited edition 12” vinyl exclusively via Vinyl Me, Please here. Album art, tracklist, tour dates, and more information below.

MORE ABOUT BERNICE
Born to a musical family, the daughter of a symphony harpist and the former Toronto Symphony Orchestra's principal violist, and a graduate of Goldsmiths' MA in Music, Robin Dann's background, formal training, and experimental sensibilities developed into Bernice's sparse arrangements and pop-minded songwriting, often following curious and unexpected paths.

Bernice’s members and collaborators including longtime Owen Pallett collaborator Thom Gill (keyboard/sampler) as well as Colin Fisher (guitar), Daniel Fortin (bass), Philippe Melanson (drums), and Felicity Williams (supporting vocals). All are regulars in Toronto's vibrant music community and members of Owen Pallett, DIANA, John Southworth, Bahamas, Martha Wainwright, The Barr Brothers, and many others.

Bernice have been performing actively since late 2010 and have released one full-length album (what was that, 2011), an EP (when I know how to climb, 2013), and a “cassingle” in 2015, all self-released independently. Signing to Arts & Crafts in late 2016, Bernice’s single "St Lucia” (Nov 2016) received praise from Zane Lowe, Stereogum, and The FADER, with the follow up single "Don't Wanna Be European” receiving praise from Pitchfork, who said Bernice “crafts intricate, dream-like music from deeply emotional lyrics and woozy electronic beats.” The next single "David” continued to garner praise, with Pitchfork recognizing their “charming, experimental pop tunes with dark and surreal lyrical twists,” noting that “Bernice holds onto hope that compassion can cut through grief, even at the worst of times.”

The band’s Arts & Crafts debut Puff EP and forthcoming album are co-produced by Grammy Award winner Shawn Everett (Alabama Shakes, Lucius) and Matt Smith (Owen Pallett).
