Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet (RWB) and The Bros. Landreth have once again joined forces to create an all new video performance. The video for The Bros. “Where Were We” from their 2015 JUNO Award winning debut album Let It Lie, features brand new choreography exploring feelings of loneliness and isolation brought on by social distancing guidelines brought on to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Inspiration for the project came from RWB Second Soloist Liam Caines, who sought to interpret the feelings of loss and separation that many experienced after the Manitoba Provincial Government declared a state of emergency on March 20, 2020. Caines and other RWB Company dancers created the movements seen on the video which they hope will inspire others dealing with isolation while they practice social distancing.

“As dancers, we express ourselves through movement,” says Caines. “We tried to capture what it was like for us in that moment and empathize with those who were going through the same thing. It’s easy to forget we don’t fight this by ourselves, and this video is our way of reaching out to say we are there with you.”

“When I finally saw the rough cut, I was blown away,” says Dave Landreth. “The choreography speaks through these really simple, everyday movements. Each dancer’s ability to bridge the space between them is a real testament to their spirit. It was incredible to see.”

While “Where Were We,” is found on the Let It Lie LP, the video features an entirely new recording with an extended outro. The video will premiere on The Bros. Landreth YouTube channel here.

This project is the second time that the RWB and The Bros. Landreth have collaborated on a special performance. The first collaboration, Next of Kin, was created for 2019’s Ballet & the Band and was similarly enriched by music from The Bros. Landreth.
