Lowell returns with "Caroline", a breezy and nostalgic piano-driven pop ballad. A reflection on her youth, Lowell paints a lucid picture of summertime in the suburbs, evoking specific but relatable moments that flash like memories: Sleeping bags and landlines, grass stains and pool parties, sneaking into cabinets and finding your parents' booze. "Caroline" is taken from a forthcoming 2022 full length album.

“Caroline is both a nostalgic take on my childhood, while at the same time a cynical view on how wasted my youth was in the hands of my teenage self (an insecure, closet bi, miserable kid trying to fit in- all while pissing off my parents),” says Lowell. “It’s hard not to roll my eyes at 14 year old me for how much time I spent wanting to be someone or somewhere else, not knowing those would be the freest and most memorable years of my life. Still in the end I’m not sure I can truly say it was wasted. If I could go back in time I’d probably still roll down those same hills and climb out the same windows… and although I like to think I’ve grown out of my insecurities I imagine I would still probably spend most of my time pining over that popular girl, not knowing if I want to kiss her or be her. So maybe I haven’t changed that much after all.”

MORE ABOUT LOWELL

After dropping out of college and escaping a manipulative music manager, Lowell was tapped by producer Martin Terefe to create her debut EP featuring collaborations with members of Coldplay, A-Ha and Mew. The EP caught the attention of indie label Arts & Crafts, who released her 2014 debut which prominently addressed her feminist politics.

Continuing her multidisciplinary artistic trajectory, Lowell co-wrote Bloodthirsty, a 2020 Canadian horror feature film about a young vegan indie singer, who finds herself turning into a werewolf under the pressure of recording her anticipated second album. The film features several new songs, including “Lemonade” and “Bloodthirsty” which received a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Original Song. The film was accepted into Frontieres at Cannes and premiered at both Fantastic Fest in Austin TX (the US’s biggest genre fest) and Fantasia in Montreal (only 10 films accepted world wide).
