Today, Ouri has returned with two new offerings via her double single “blueprints of us” / “tame me”. As a musician, producer, DJ, vocalist, and composer, Ouri is known for her range, and this double single marks yet another notch on her belt. Both “blueprints of us” and “tame me” are relaxed and minimalistic, yet they maintain a hypnotising quality, both through Ouri’s ethereal vocal and the track’s airy layering.

Talking of the single, Ouri shares: “I forget, remember and forget, but ultimately remember that we are all animated by the same indescribable thing called life. When we love each other, and when we ignore each other. That’s the only thought that helps me integrate the discrepancy of human experiences on this planet. Creating a liminal space between the intangible world of music and the actual world we live in. I had the privilege of having Oli XL, Decz, Loukeman and John Debold’s touches support my vision for these two songs, a dream come true.”

“blueprints of us” / “tame me” follows Ouri’s collaborative EP i had this dream that you were my sister with Antoniya, and the standalone single “Twin” in Spring, as well as opening for Yaeji on her North American tour. Ouri’s 2023 releases follow her highly praised and Polaris Music Prize shortlisted 2021 debut album Frame of a Fauna, which The FADER described as "a richly rewarding left turn”, and features the standout tracks ‘High & Choking Pt 1’, which was later remixed by Jacques Greene, ‘Chains’, and ‘Fonction Naturelle’. The new song also follows a joint project with Helena Deland titled Hildegard, which Pitchfork hailed as "pure creative symbiosis".

Ouri's musical journey began when she moved to Montreal from France at just 16 with the dream of becoming a composer. As she developed her compositional ability, as well as her production and vocal chops, she became a fixture in Montreal's underground rave scene and was eventually selected to take part in Red Bull Music Academy's Montreal Bass Camp. From there, her profile began to grow as she headlined Boiler Room's Montreal showcase, toured with the likes of Yves Tumor and Arooj Aftab, and released her first EPs Superficial and We Share Our Blood. With her latest releases Ouri continues to cement her status as one of the most exciting and innovative artists in the experimental music scene.

“Cunty, in your face, ground-shaking.” This is how Montreal artists Ouri and Antoniya describe their new EP, i had this dream that you were my sister, out today via Born Twice. An artist whose songwriting fluctuates between intimate, raw sincerity, and diva-style belting, Antoniya says of the collaboration "I thought I knew who I was when I showed up to our first session together, but it's clear I was only going to stick to what I knew I could do, or so I thought.”

“This project, to me, is about discovery and acknowledgment of my power. It challenged me as an artist but also as a girl in the world. It's about being vulnerable, petty, violent, sexy, experimental, confident and selfless. It taught me I was passionate about something. And at the end of the day, I just wanted to impress my big sister."

Ouri also adds that the collaboration is "the realization of blending two worlds and finding a place for love against all odds. Sisterhood is the source of a magical intimacy but encompasses darker feelings. I love that we were able to bring that up explicitly but also create a soundtrack to celebrate the beauty of it all. I hope people will dance and face their emotions on these songs all summer long."

Today, they are also sharing the video for EP track, “1st Bite”. The song is minimal but the production is a maximalist venture. Ouri and Antoniya spent entire sessions alternating behind the mic, screaming and laughing, making their excitement palpable around the main vocal. They spent entire days walking through the city, recording their surroundings to capture the nostalgia of their hometown in their music. All of this, brought into a sharp world stained by a pink sunrise. An odyssey that began in Montreal and ended in Saigon, Vietnam where they shot an explosive revenge fantasy video. The two girls are moving fast through the city. Testing their limits to have a little fun until they make a strange encounter…

Antoniya’s debut solo EP is set to arrive later this summer. Watch for more new music in the near future.

Just finishing up her tour across North America with Yaeji, Ouri is a self proclaimed introvert who’d rather dash off on her own than feel disconnected in the wrong crowd. Ouri started shaping her musical sense with harp, cello, and piano very early on. Montreal’s rave scene is where her artistry began to take shape - establishing herself in the community as a musician, producer, DJ, vocalist, and composer. After partnerships with Ghostly, Boiler Room, Young Art, Adult Swim, RBMA, she released her own music on independent imprint BornTwice. Her growing notoriety has led to her supporting Jacques Greene, Yves Tumor, Tirzah, Arooj Aftab, and Smerz & Kllo live in concert.

“Ossature” Video Still

Next week, the Polaris Music Prize jury will determine a winner for this year’s prestigious award. Among the albums shortlisted for consideration is Ouri’s (Ourielle Auvé) Frame Of A Fauna. Released in October of 2021 the success of Frame of a Fauna has also led to international tours supporting Tirzah, Grammy Award Winner Arooj Aftab, Smerz and more. Today, the Montreal-based multi-instrumentalist and producer is releasing the new video for the album’s opening track, “Ossature”, from director Derek Branscombe.

"I revisited the iconic, agile and tense sample of 'Intact Alef' by PTU from one of my favorite labels трип records for this song,” says Ouri. “Rebellious choruses fight submissive verses, puncturing the classical nuances with industrial abrasions and heavy drum samples - tearing down any attempt to keep a disciplined and soft self on top."

In the accompanying K-Hole inspired video, Ouri fights a merciless red hand, offering a trippy visual feast as a conclusion to her album Frame Of A Fauna. Collaborating once more with Derek Branscombe, this video is inspired by a Ketamine treatment Ouri received last year. The video depicts some of her visions, aesthetically transmitting the feeling of this very strange healing experience, a heroic battle and retrieving a lost connection with her ancestors. Derek crafted this world Using a bold and sometimes chaotic mix of VFX and AI-generated animation.

MORE FROM OURI
Recently, Ouri released her first offering of 2022 with the project bt002: self hypnosis tape. The 7-track project is meditative and ambient in nature, with piano-driven instrumentals from Zach Frampton showing off a different side of Ouri's abilities for something more improvisational.

bt002: self hypnosis tape arrived right on the heels of Frame of a Fauna, which finds Ouri exploring the cycle of birth, death, and constant rebirth; transcending through the creation of this album, as she explores what lies inside the lining of the big dharma wheel: trauma, control and vulnerability.

Last year Ouri also released a joint project with Helena Deland, Hildegard, which received widespread critical acclaim with Pitchfork praising the collaboration as "pure creative symbiosis" and The FADER describing as, "a hypnotic composition that ebbs in and out of darkness, mining strength in synchronicity."

Known professionally as Ouri, Auvé grew up in France and moved to Montreal at the age of 16 with dreams of becoming a composer. As Ouri developed her compositional ability, as well as her production and vocal chops, she integrated herself with late-night DJ sets in Montreal's underground rave scene and was eventually selected to take part in Red Bull Music Academy's Montreal Bass Camp. From there, her profile began to grow as she headlined Boiler Room's Montreal showcase, toured with the likes of Yves Tumor and Jacques Greene, released her first EPs Superficial and We Share Our Blood, and collaborated with fellow Montreal artist Helena Deland on the interdimensional Hildegard.
