Today, Ellevator are pleased to announce they have signed with Arts & Crafts for their upcoming record. Of the signing, the band says : "Arts & Crafts have been cultivating great art since we were learning our first chords. The records they’ve put out have deeply affected the music we make. We’re thrilled to be working alongside people as inspired and seasoned as the team at Arts & Crafts. Their expert hand has guided so many gifted artists and it’s humbling to be counted among them. We look forward to doing great work together.”

Formerly known as The Medicine Hat, the band recently performed performed a dazzling version of Caribou’s “Odessa” for CFMU’s Modern Spin series and has also shared their latest single, “St. Cecilia”, which is a song “for all the men who have ever harassed me,” says frontwoman Nabi Sue Bersche.

“It's a song for all the long stares and salacious grins, all the licked-lips and hey-sweethearts, all the shadows that walk a little too close behind me. It's about the thick skin I put on when I walk alone or I'm on stage. I love the power of that skin, but I hate that I need to be tough to feel safe. Now a brief glance in the mirror turns to a thousand eyes ogling me up and down, unkind hands fussing with my appearance. They impair a kindness I used to carry so easily. St. Cecilia is my constant companion. The patron Saint of music, she's with me in every dark bar, on every walk home. Watching my drink, watching my back, whispering a sweet melody in my ear."

Ellevator is an experimental-pop band from Hamilton, Ontario. Frontwoman Nabi Sue Bersche's nimble, raw lyricism is illuminated by a voice like holy fire: blistering and purifying. Focussed guitar work dances with the hypnotic timbres and soaring melodies of analog synthesizers. Deft lines and dangerous grooves are intoned by a disciplined drum and bass combo. Chaos lurks beneath the surface of Ellevator's tight motifs and rhythmic trances, erupting into moments of prophetic ecstasy. Their live performances are wild affairs. Brimstone at their heels, Ellevator's contagious energy turns rooms into reveries.

Recently, the band completed a run of tour dates with The Franklin Electric and Mappe Of. Having also just signed to booking agency Paradigm, Ellevator will return to the road in the near future including a performance in Toronto on December 28 at The Rivoli. More details will be announced shortly.

Ellevator is Mike Boyd, Elliott Gwynne, Nabi Sue Bersche, and Tyler Bersche.

Live From Latent Lounge is available to stream today on all digital platforms.

MORE ABOUT BEAUTIFUL SCARS
Tom Wilson was raised in the rough-and-tumble world of Hamilton – Steeltown – in the company of World War II vets, factory workers, fall-guy wrestlers, and the deeply guarded secrets kept by his parents, Bunny and George. For decades Tom carved out a life for himself in shadows. He built an international music career and became a father, he battled demons and addiction, and he waited, hoping for the lies to cease and the truth to emerge. It would. And when it did, it would sweep up the St. Lawrence River to the Mohawk reserves of Quebec, on to the heights of the Manhattan skyline.

PRAISE FOR LEE HARVEY OSMOND

“a modern folk classic” NOW Magazine

“digs into spooky blues and the underbelly of the Canadian folk tradition, with jazzy horns and flutes, weeping pedal steel guitar, haunting vibraphones and beatnik hand percussion. …one of the greatest Canadian bands of the last 10 years” The Record

“rugged, dredged-from-the-bayou-depths vocals and oft-bleak songs that fuse psychedelia, folk, blues and soul” 9/10 Exclaim!

“like the musical love child of Dr. John, Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen. … Zen-biker musings …comforting layers of lumpy noir blues, flute-fluttered lounge jazz, rustic fingerpicked folk and noisy indie-roots twang-clang” Sun Media

“spellbinding” Postmedia Pop Forecast

Written, recorded, and produced by Jason Couse and Wes Marskell, “Another Log On The Fire” offers Darcys fans a new holiday classic. “We were considering releasing a Christmas cover this year when we thought it would be more fun to created something original,” says the band. “It’s a pretty simple concept: who doesn’t want to keep the fire burning a little longer this Christmas?”

Darcys are a JUNO Award and Polaris Music Prize nominated pop duo and production / songwriting team from Toronto. Never shy of taking a risk, Darcys have released three original albums, and a reworking of Steely Dan’s classic “AJA”, and a 20-minute southern-gothic themed instrumental based on a Cormac McCarthy novel. Most recently, Darcys released a transformative road trip record, Centerfold. Lush with vibrant synths and funky bass, the album feels as at home in 2017 as it would in 1986.
