It’s been a busy spring for Halifax psych-rockers Walrus. Last month they hit the road with Wintersleep and Evening Hymns, and just last week they released their latest EP, Goodbye Something, on Dan Mangan’s Madic Records. This week, as they head into CMW and a string of tour dates in Quebec and on the East Coast, the band has partnered with Chart Attack to premiere the new video for “Fur Skin Coat”.

Directed by Jeff Miller, “the whole idea for this one was to have a dancer perform to our track. We didn't want to have ourselves in the video at all,” says drummer Jordan Murphy. “We wanted to see how someone would interpret our song through dance and how it would all come together with our music. Cavell Holland did an amazing job on the performance and choreography. It was all him and the whole thing came together really quickly. He got the song and only took a couple takes to do it perfectly. We played the song through Jeff's car and he did his thing.”

The video was shot on Willow Street in Halifax, right in front of the house where three quarters of the band live. “We thought it would be cool to just show the street on a normal day as a backdrop to the performance,” explains Murphy. “We lucked out with the weather and had lots of things happening in the background, coming in and out of frame during the shot.”

Halifax’s Walrus channel their inner psychedelia with songs that range from trance to surf. Exclaim! writes that “the band somehow mix gentle, Brian Wilson vocal melodies and orchestrations with out-of-the-blue punk thrash parts that keep listeners guessing. The high, winsome vocals and chiming 12-string Rickenbacker certainly conjured late '60s cloudy folk-pop, but the rest of the band infused the songs with sharp edges.” Their music will adhere to all levels of inebriation or consciousness. Walrus takes you swiftly into a dream you'll find yourself never wanting to wake up from.

True DIYers, throughout the last two years Walrus has played over 200 shows in clubs, dive bars, garages, and houses in the U.S. and Canada with the likes of July Talk, Will Butler, Tokyo Police Club, Buck 65, and Zeus.
