His His is the recording project of Halifax-based artist Aidan Belo, blending lo-fi folk and slacker rock into a sound that feels raw, intimate, and refined. Built on analog textures and understated performances, His His leans into restraint and clarity, delivering songs that are reflective, measured, and detail-oriented.
After sharing previous single, “Calls Me Mine”, earlier this year, today His His is sharing “Carousel”, a song written “after a visit to the Schomberg Fair, an agricultural fair in my hometown that I grew up going to,” explains Belo. “Coming back to it as an adult, it felt noticeably quieter than I remembered. There were fewer kids around, fewer people, and some of the excitement I associated with it seemed to have faded. The fair itself hadn’t necessarily changed completely, but I had. The song came out of that strange feeling of returning somewhere familiar and realizing that the version you remember doesn’t quite exist anymore.
“The song was also inspired by a night at a bar in town, where I ended up playing a game of pool with a travelling carny who was working at the fair. There was something surreal about meeting someone who had arrived with the fair and would be gone again in a few days. That encounter became a way into thinking about the fair itself, the people who pass through, and the feeling of trying to hold onto something that was always temporary.”

“Carousel” sits somewhere between nostalgia and disappointment. “It’s about wanting to feel the same excitement you felt as a kid while knowing you can’t really return to that feeling,” continues Belo. “The carousel becomes a symbol for that, something that keeps going around while everything around it changes.
“Recorded entirely to tape and cassette, the song leans into a warm, worn in sound that mirrors the subject matter. There’s something intentionally imperfect and faded about the recording, like a memory that’s been replayed too many times. At its core, ‘Carousel’ is about returning home, looking for the past in familiar places, and realizing that what you miss might not be the place itself, but who you were when you were there.”

Since debuting in late 2020, the project has quietly built a growing audience, amassing over 2 million streams across streaming, with support from Spotify editorial playlists, SiriusXM, CBC, and tastemaker press. Rooted in a cassette-forward, analog approach, His His emphasizes warmth, tape saturation, and subtle imperfections, resulting in a sound that is immediate, cohesive, and sonically distinct.
