Today, acclaimed songwriter Jordan Klassen is sharing his new 90s inspired single, “Fall Apart”. Raw, direct, and soaked in alt-rock DNA, the track marks a deliberate and thrilling reinvention from an artist who has spent years honing his craft across baroque pop, cinematic folk, and indie rock.
“In the 90s before audio sampling was readily available on the internet, you used to be able to order CD-ROMs with usable clips,” explains Klassen. “I managed to get my hands on a few of these a few years ago and found a drum loop that I was absolutely over the moon for. That’s where ‘Fall Apart’ was born. I wanted it to allude to the music I grew up listening to in the 90s on pop radio, but without necessarily being a parody or something. ‘Inspired by’.
“The song is about having these little moments where I realize I’m still prone to the same fears that I had back then when I was in middle school. They’re more grown up now, but at their core they’re the same. I sometimes wonder if most people have a lifelong internal enemy. Fear of the unknown, anxiety around rejection, an inability to trust. ‘Fall Apart’ is about the familiarity of seeing that old enemy pop its head up yet again.”
