Toronto / Los Angeles duo Snowblink, purveyors of non-denominational devotional pop music, are pleased to announce its signing with the Outside Music family. “To say we are in good company is an understatement - what a rare treat to make and release music amongst friends and deeply talented peers,” says Snowblink. To mark the signing the band has revealed a new single “How Now”, courtesy of The Line Of Best Fit.

Together, Daniela Gesundheit and Dan Goldman have toured extensively through North America and Europe, both as a headliner and as support for Feist, Jeff Tweedy, Bahamas, Timber Timbre, and Owen Pallett. In 2012, Snowblink was invited by Leslie Feist to join her band at the Polaris Music Prize gala. The evening resulted in the creation of the seven-headed collaborative superband, Hydra, which went on to tour summer festivals in 2014. The band performed songs from the Feist, Snowblink, and AroarA catalog.

Snowblink is sensual, not sterile, elegantly imperfect, Wabi Sabi. Gesundheit’s empathic, mesmeric lyrics, when coupled with Goldman’s patient and narcotic arranging and production style, establish a genuine intimacy without telling us what to feel.

Looking to the emotional intelligence of heavyweights like Nina Simone, PJ Harvey, or Violeta Parra, or poets Anne Carson and Fanny Howe, while adhering to the optimistic and playful presentation of ’80’s French pop duo Elie & Jacno, Snowblink manages a courageous strangeness, otherness, an optimal mismatch, like a male/female duo Franco Battiato.

More details on new music from Snowblink will be announced in the near future.

CHRIS VELAN REVEALS NEW VIDEO FROM UPCOMING ALBUM, 'GLOW', OUT MARCH 4

CHRIS VELAN REVEALS NEW VIDEO FOR “LISTEN, ELIJAH”

MONTREAL SONGWRITER TO RELEASE HOWARD BILERMAN-PRODUCED ALBUM GLOW ON MARCH 4 VIA NEWSONG RECORDINGS

CANADIAN TOUR DATES BEGIN MARCH 22

With only a week remaining until he releases his sixth LP, Glow, Montreal songwriter and producer Chris Velan is treating fans to a video for album track “Listen Elijah.” Set for release on March 4 via NewSong Recordings, the album was co-produced with Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, Basia Bulat, Wolf Parade, Vic Chestnutt). Also Joining Velan in studio was an all-star band of Montreal musicians; Jamie Thompson (Islands, The Unicorns) sitting at the drums, Morgan Moore (Barr Brothers, Blood and Glass) on bass, Max Henry (Suuns) playing keys, with Ariel Engle (AroarA) and Ngabo Kiroko (Dear Denizen) providing backup vocals. Today we get a sneak peek into the dynamics of that recording process with the new video for “Listen, Elijah” shot live in studio during the recording.

“This ended up being the only studio footage we shot during our days recording the album at hotel2tango,” say Velan. “But it was enough to capture the fun of tracking this outlier on the record. ‘Listen, Elijah’ plays with its heavier theme of everyday, existential annihilation under a pretty poppy, sing-along sound. It's a bit of a cheeky rebuff to the arrival of the prophet of the apocalypse – something akin to, ‘Hey, thanks but no thanks. We got it covered. We have no choice, in any case.’ So it's kind of like calling off a hitman who we've set on ourselves.”

The songs on Glow want to pull back the curtain and let the light in. They’re about taking that long, unflinching look in the mirror, shattering mythologies, both personal and collective, and naming the lies that keep us caged. Whether refusing the clean-up job of a prophet in “Listen, Elijah”, or invoking grace in “Call Me Into Your Heart”, Velan’s latest collection of songs seems intent on finding joy at the end of the world - where no matter how frightening the outcome, the end is never the end, just a great new beginning.

It’s a path of inquiry that began for Velan on his previous album, The Long Goodbye, a raw and confessional reckoning with the break-up of a long-term relationship. While echoes of that ache remain in his latest release, Velan’s writing now looks forward with a faith in the blossoming power of love, connection, and the other intangibles that sustain life and will.

On March 22, Velan takes to the road to support the album with a string of tour dates across Canada. Full tour dates are listed below. Glow is available for pre-order now on Pledge Music along with other exclusive items.

Each Other, is nothing short of hypnotizing” - Vancouver Sun Album Of The Week 4/5

“Knight’s third album will appeal to those who like their music languid and delicate - sign up if you’re into Cowboy Junkies, Bon Iver, Grandaddy and Bill Callahan.” - Scottish Daily Express

Aidan Knight has spent much of this year across the Atlantic supporting his new album, Each Other, and will make his triumphant return to North American soil for a string of dates that hit Canada on April 12 in Ontario and finish up in BC on April 30. The Victoria songwriter recently completed a UK tour in support of Mercury Prize winner Villagers and is currently on the road throughout Europe and the UK with Half Moon Run.

During his time overseas, “The Arp”, lead single from Each Other, has become a mainstay at BBC Radio, while the album itself has been named BBC6 Music’s Album Of The Week. Uncut Magazine has called the sound “breathtaking”, and MOJO Magazine claims his songwriting to be “darkly magnetic”. Upon completion of the North American tour, Aidan heads back to Europe for a headline tour which will include stops at many of the continent’s top festivals.

Out now on Outside Music, Each Other was recorded at the Bathouse Studio, just outside of Kingston and home to Millhaven Maximum Security Prison, where the band sequestered themselves in the studio for over two weeks with producer Marcus Paquin (The National, Local Natives, Stars). Together with Paquin they were meticulous with each song, piecing together the raw energy of the live show along with the layered textures that could only be captured in the studio. An exhaustive process to say the least which Knight reflects on in saying, “Marcus, guided an unruly collection of ideas and a sometimes impulsive person (me) with remarkable patience (Marcus is also a new father).” Each Other was mixed over a very cold winter by Mathieu Parisian (Patrick Watson, Karkwa), a man familiar with intricately elaborate recordings.
