“Mosaic In The Sun” Video Still

Recently, Montreal-based songwriter Edwin Raphael announced his new album, I Know A Garden, and shared the album’s lead single, “Then There’s You”. Today, he returns with another selection from the upcoming album, “Mosaic In The Sun”. The track is accompanied with a music video, filmed entirely in West Bengal, India, and highlights a return to Edwin's Indian roots.

“The song is about the ache of dislocation,” explains Raphael. “Growing up across countries and cultures, with your sense of home packed into shifting landscapes — you learned that no place truly held you. You brought the garden with you instead. In this track, we feel the pull between surrender and survival, between letting yourself fall apart or choosing, once again, to ‘just roll.’

“The chorus echoes that familiar voice — the one inside you that wonders if resting, loving, letting go is safe. Or if it's another risk disguised as relief: ‘If I could just fall / oh it could feel good for a while…’

“But like a mosaic scattered in sunlight, even brokenness can refract something beautiful. There's a humility here — in asking, ‘Where was I when I was all you needed?’ — that feels like looking into your younger self’s eyes, or speaking to someone you once loved, and realizing you’ve both been trying to make peace with your own disappearing acts.”

MORE ABOUT EDWIN RAPHAEL
With roots in Kerala, India, Raphael studied classical guitar before deciding on the keys. As he developed an affinity for John Mayer and Ben Howard, he felt at odds with a distinct sense of “placelessness”. It wasn’t until he moved to Montreal to pursue a business degree that he felt a sense of stability, and became deeply entangled with the city’s indie bedroom pop scene.

His debut EP Ocean’s Walk (2015) paired stirring, melancholic instrumentals with a fierce self-reckoning. It would set the stage for a string of releases that would dive deeper into the psyche; like confronting the aftershocks following a significant heartbreak, or relearning your emotional baseline as you mature. Subsequent releases, Cold Nights (2017)Will You Think of Me Later? (2019), and its follow up Staring at Ceilings (2021), reveal an artist devoted to sharpening his ability to translate his experiences into ubiquitous statements.

The 2024 re-release of Will You Think of Me Later? has amassed 115 million streams on Spotify. Edwin has performed over 70 shows across 14 countries since 2023, sharing the stage alongside Palace, Hollow Coves, Noah Kahan, and more. He heads out on tour throughout Quebec beginning March 27 and a U.K. and European tour commences May 14  All dates are below.

“Then There’s You” is the first new music from the Montreal-based songwriter Edwin Raphael since 2023's Warm Terracotta. The new single is a love song wrapped in soft confrontation — the kind that doesn’t explode, but lingers like an unfinished sentence. Tucked deeper into the garden lies a grove where silence hums like a secret. It’s dappled with moments you almost forgot — half-formed feelings, words left unsaid, books you meant to finish. This is The Grove of Echoes — a place where the past loops, not loudly, but with a whisper. Here lives “Then There’s You”, the soft interruption of love when you least expect it, the kind that sneaks past your defenses and stands still, waiting.

The lyrics dance between the romantic and the disillusioned — a push and pull that feels like trying to catch sunlight with bare hands. “Lines like ‘books stacked on the nightstand’ and ‘I might just fold a second time’ links to me trying to write a new story, but keeps slipping back into the margins,” says Edwin. “The chorus carries that dizzying duality, ‘you laugh like I’m the only one who moves you’ — a compliment that cuts both ways when you're unsure of its truth.”

This grove symbolizes a deep turning point. You've wandered through self-reflection, mysticism, and memory — but this is where reality hums back. Not loud, but honest. Love in this garden isn’t always a resolution; sometimes, it’s a mirror held too close. And still, there’s a strange kind of hope in the knowing. “Then There’s You” is an ode to witnessing. To being seen not as someone broken or scattered, but as someone whole — or at least someone trying.

Today, Edwin Raphael’s new LP, Warm Terracotta, is available everywhere courtesy of Dine Alone Records. In celebration, the Dubai-born, Montreal-based songwriter is revealing the new 3D website, Warm Terracotta World.

"Warm Terracotta World first came about when we were recording the album and it struck us that since the music is so closely interlaced with surrealism as one of its key pillars, we wanted an outlet to allow people to perceive as such,” says Raphael. “The album further represents a sacred space to find yourself over and over again, the 3D world would serve as an experiential space for listening, thoughts, discovery and potentially new connections."

MORE ABOUT WARM TERRACOTTA
How do you anchor yourself when occupying multiple geographic identities at once? For Edwin Raphael, it requires an intentional and intensive form of world-building. By developing an unmistakable style of folk that merges Eastern scales with the Western pop canon, Raphael reimagines his music as a exploratory tool that allows him to construct an interior and sacred home to retreat into.

Where his past projects found inspiration in the metaphorical potential of water, his forthcoming album Warm Terracotta walks deeper into the island after standing on the shore. On Edwin Raphael’s most intimate and ambitious project to date, he grapples with the realization of being a foreigner everywhere; of longing to know your ancestral roots, while also honouring the home you’ve built for yourself. Both spacious and pulsating, the album is inspired by Indian classical music, experimental psychedelic folk, and spacey 80s pop; at times, conjuring the lower-jaw tingle of grass between your toes, or the sun-soaked splendour of late afternoon ragas. In Raphael’s own words, the album is an antidote: “one that swallows you into forgetting your present troubles, while also painting a world you can escape into — and keep coming back to.”

Raphael continues, “Warm Terracotta represents a sacred space to find yourselves over and over again. Fourteen songs that bring forward the duality and complexity of simply being. It trusts that when you do things from your soul, you feel a river move within you.

“It’s about balancing the good with the bad. It’s encountering a landscape that is completely surreal to you but also the closest thing to home. This project involves the arch of self-realization & leans on the generosity of the unexpected. It is a space for thoughts, discovery and new connections.”

MORE ABOUT EDWIN RAPHAEL
Growing up in Dubai, as the son of parents who immigrated from the city of Cochin in India’s coastal Kerala state, Raphael studied classical guitar before deciding on the keys. As he developed an affinity for John Mayer and Ben Howard, he felt at odds with Dubai’s distinct sense of “placelessness” — and the bewildering feeling of being immersed in a culture where everyone claimed an alternate homeland. It wasn’t until he moved to Montreal to pursue a business degree that he felt a sense of stability, and became deeply entangled with the city’s indie bedroom pop scene.
