Fresh off the success of "POPSTAR", "SpiceKick", and "So Smart", Magi Merlin shares “pixxxie”, a song that conjures pop and sets it free. The song is a liberation of women from the male gaze, sung ironically from the perspective of the “manic pixie dream girl”. Here, Magi's singing is tactile, arranged in such a way that it comes flying at the listener from every direction. The single comes as the final offering before the release of her debut album POWER HOUSE.

It features a deliciously devastating synth line and poignant production, gutting in its raw power that Magi has come to embody with this forthcoming project – POWER HOUSE – available on all digital platforms on July 10, 2026.

“Female characters in film are often reduced to this trope, simply a device used to further the plot of the male protagonist” Magi explains. "This is a role and, at its worst, an expectation many men in real life will cast onto their female counterparts. The only function of women in their eyes is being a sexual object or a tool to aid them in their growth.” With pixxxie, Magi Merlin reminds us that this pernicious ideal is not merely a product of man-made fiction, but a reflection of our society.

With its previous singles garnering international acclaim from notable outlets such as BBC Radio 6 Music, Clash Magazine, Stereogum, BrooklynVegan, KCRW, KEXP, Wonderland Magazine, Libération, France Inter, FIP, CBC, Radio-Canada, Exclaim! and RANGE, POWER HOUSE is set to be one of the most memorable debut albums of the year. Magi Merlin will be touring both Europe and North America this summer and fall; including a freshly announced headline dates in London (UK), Montréal, Toronto (CAN) and a performance at Rock En Seine sharing the Wednesday line-up with Sombr and Tyler The Creator - see the list below for all tour dates.

MORE ABOUT POWER HOUSE
Magi Merlin’s debut LP, POWER HOUSE, is a high-production, 12-track masterclass in modern pop - an infectious, high-energy record that feels deceptively familiar at first touch, yet every time you reach for a comparison, you realize it doesn't quite fit; a one-of-one project that remains as polished as it is daring.

Conceptually, POWER HOUSE is an exploration of the internal architecture we all inhabit, housing the conflicting rooms of anger, fear, vanity, and ultimately, a reclaimed sense of power. Where Magi Merlin’s previous work, Gone Girl, was a study of external strength, this new era is an ode to the realization that inner work is the only true outer work. With a perspective that is both empathetic and furious, and a grow-as-you-go philosophy, she proves that real change starts small but sounds massive.

The record serves as a realist’s manifesto, navigating the duality of the modern female experience. Writing from her perspective as a bisexual/ENM woman, Merlin explores the contradictions of seeking validation in both platonic and romantic contexts. She deconstructs the plastic confidence used as modern armor, the performative standards of the beauty industry, and the systemic pressures that force women to navigate their lives with hyper-caution. From flashy, artificial boastfulness to radical, empathetic self-reflection, POWER HOUSE refuses to look away from the uncomfortable.

MORE ABOUT MAGI MERLIN
There's a special kind of kindred spirit that Magi Merlin makes music for; her fellow obsessives. Screw the soft launch. Magi (pronounced Mahd-j-eye) sings directly to the listener, face pressed up against the other side of the screen's glass. Through her propulsive, avant-garde form of pop and "Broken” R&B, she explores life's deep existential truths, tearing through imagination and genre like outfits ripped off a garment rack. Whether that be a Galliano tulle skirt for a quick studio session, lace wrist cuffs on a first date, or jungle-inspired splintered kick drums giving way to futuristic synth lines.

Over the last years, she has written and co-composed largely alongside Funkywhat, a collaborator with whom she has built a shared musical language. Magi’s alternative forms of pop and R&B are about as high-definition as one can imagine, without sacrificing sensuousness and emotion. Her 2022 EP Gone Girl is music that feels alive, animated by a voice that blends unruly maximalism and earned wisdom. It sent her on tour with Noga Erez and on an electric performance in Mexico City in support of Omar Apollo. A surprise EP in 2025, A Weird Little Dog, brought a deepened emphasis to her experimental style and gave rise to “Broken R&B”, a genre she named and owns entirely, less a marketing category than an honest account of how she works, her art direction and visual world as idiosyncratic and charged as the music itself.

Soon after, she opened for Nubya Garcia across the US, with festival appearances at Osheaga, Festival d'été de Québec, where she opened for Ty Dolla $ign, and most recently a European support run with Yaya Bey. Outside of music, she made her acting debut in 2026 with Chandler Levack's Mile End Kicks, alongside Barbie Ferreira, Devon Bostick, and Juliette Gariépy, which screened at TIFF and SXSW.

On “So Smart”, Magi Merlin writes herself a pacifying ode to self-kindness, recognising that, in truth, no one else holds the authority to give us the empathy we need most but ourselves. The combination of her layered vocals and radical instrumentation almost lends the song a three-dimensional feel. The single and video arrive as the third installment ahead of her debut album POWER HOUSE, which comes out July 10, 2026.

As Magi puts it, "'So Smart' is an ode to finding sympathy for your own self. We made it in Mexico City and I ended up having a full meltdown, broke ten years of vegetarianism over a taco and felt like a complete fraud. Funky told me I had to be nicer to myself, and then Sam played the song back and that line was just there: 'I'll push to be kinder to myself... I guess.' It's essentially about getting over myself in the most empathetic way possible."

Co-writing and co-producing with long-time collaborator Funkywhat, Magi leads on her own art direction, shaping a visual world as self-defined and infectious as the music. Magi’s alternative shapeshifting R&B is about as high-definition as one can imagine, without ever sacrificing sensuousness and emotion while exploring life's deep existential truths. She tears through imagination and genre like outfits ripped off a clothing rack––a Galliano tulle skirt to a studio visit, lace wrist cuffs for a first date, or jungle-inspired kick drums giving way to futuristic synth lines.

This exploration of the self comes following the vivid single and video for “SpiceKick”. A loud, flashy, and seemingly arrogant track, decoding ‘plastic confidence,’ and showcasing how arrogance can often be a mask for an underlying fear of inadequacy. From this artifice to the radical, empathetic self-reflection of “So Smart”, her debut album POWER HOUSE won't be lulled into comfort; it holds itself in opposition to the systems that slowly hollow out our sense of self.

Both follow lead single “POPSTAR” which was featured on CBC Q alongside an interview as well as being premiered on Huw Stephens' BBC Radio 6 Music show, picked up a B-list placement and had repeat plays on New Music Fix and a place on Spotify's Fresh Finds Favorites in March 2026. The single arrived as Magi was wrapping a European support run with Yaya Bey, the latest in a string of momentum that's been building steadily across both sides of the Atlantic. This spring, Magi also makes her acting debut in Chandler Levack's Mile End Kicks, which screened at TIFF and SXSW, and sees her acting alongside Barbie Ferreira, Devon Bostick and Juliette Gariépy.

Magi Merlin swings big on her new single and propulsive video for “SpiceKick”, compressing all her eclectic tastes into a high-stakes tune that reconfigures alt-R&B on her own terms. The single arrives alongside the announcement of her debut album POWER HOUSE, due July 10, 2026. The video directed by Félicie Diaz & Noshirt is punk, corporeal and choreography-forward, as relentless as the track itself.

“I wanted to open the project with something loud, flashy, and seemingly arrogant,” says Magi. “The track, though, is a kind of façade. I’ve felt as confident as ‘SpiceKick’ sounds, but that feeling can’t last forever, perhaps it shouldn't. Sometimes arrogance becomes a cover for fear and inadequacy. The mask slips at the end when I tell the listener to save themselves from me. SpiceKick is an ode to ego and self-confidence, something that can curdle into self-loathing if left unchecked.”

Screw the soft launch. Magi’s target audience is her fellow obsessives, she sings directly to the listener pressed up against the other side of the screen’s glass. She coined her own genre for it: Broken R&B, less a marketing term than an honest account of how she works, co-writing and co-producing with long-time collaborator Funkywhat, leading on her own art direction, shaping a visual world as self-defined and infectious as the music.

“SpiceKick” follows “POPSTAR” – our first taste from her debut full-length – which premiered on Huw Stephens’ BBC Radio 6 Music show, picked up a B-list placement and had repeat plays on New Music Fix, with London its number one city on streaming platforms and a place on Spotify’s Fresh Finds Favorites in March 2026. The single arrived as Magi was wrapping a European support run with Yaya Bey, the latest in a string of momentum that’s been building steadily across both sides of the Atlantic.

The music is only part of it. This spring Magi makes her acting debut in Chandler Levack’s Mile End Kicks, which screened at TIFF 2025 and SXSW alongside Barbie Ferreira, Devon Bostick and Juliette Gariépy, with the US cinema release landing April 17.
