Today, JUNO Award-nominated Vancouver artist Drew Tarves, who records under the moniker young friend, announces his new full-length album, New Entertainment, due out November 6, 2026 via Nettwerk. Alongside the announcement, he returns with his gripping new single, “Miracle.” From the opening fuzzy guitar riff, it’s clear that young friend is entering a bold new era in the follow-up to his acclaimed 2025 debut album, motorcycle sound effects. New Entertainment is recorded live off the floor, fully analog, channeling rock albums of the past. It’s a celebration of the slow process and the inevitable mistakes. It’s taking the scenic route every time. It’s running headfirst at life with your eyes wide open, getting your hands dirty, feeling it all.

“Miracle” delivers a definitive nod to heartland rock, seamlessly balancing massive, gritty guitars with Tarves’ signature confessional, introspective style. The lyrics explore the delicate anatomy of a relationship, highlighting the beauty found in ordinary spaces.

“Miracle is about the little moments and being so grateful to find love in those mundanities,” he explains. “The third verse serves as a realization that maybe even despite all of those beautiful moments two people can share, the illusion can be broken, and it might not in fact be a miracle.”

To capture the essence of his new album, Tarves pivoted away from typical isolated studio sessions, leaning heavily into a band-first mentality. Produced by Tarves’ longtime collaborator David Marinelli (FINNEAS, Wallice, spill tab), New Entertainment captures the authentic, wall-of-sound energy of a band of the past. He brought the song structures into rehearsals, allowing the band to flesh out arrangements organically – resulting in a tactile sound that nods to classic influences like Wilco and Neil Young.

Today, young friend also announces ‘The Hard Rock Tour’, kicking off with a special hometown show in Vancouver on November 4th at The Hollywood Theatre, where fans can get a live glimpse of the new album ahead of its release. From there, young friend will head to Los Angeles, New York, and Toronto, with more to come. Find the full list of dates and details below!

MORE ABOUT YOUNG FRIEND
Drew Tarves' music as young friend feels classic and immediate all at once, capturing the nostalgia of post-adolescence while diving deep into a pool of self-reflection. His sophomore album, New Entertainment, is about fear and love in equal measure. An exploration of the ways AI and new technology are infiltrating our lives, but also a celebration of friendship and family, and genuine time spent. Of the slow process, the inevitable mistakes.

A trained dancer for most of his adolescence, the 26-year-old Vancouver native switched artistic disciplines after spending time jamming with his musician friends. "I found out very quickly that I loved it," he recalls. "It was my favorite thing to do." Armed with a guitar and a laptop, Tarves started hashing out early songwriting attempts in GarageBand as he found his own style: "It was all about experimenting while trying to find what worked for me."

In 2022, Tarves released his indie-pop debut EP HOW DID WE GET HERE? and quickly followed it up with a sophomore in 2023 titled scaredy cat. 2024 brought in his first Canadian and international touring as well as a JUNO Award nomination. His debut full-length, motorcycle sound effects, was released in 2025. New Entertainment, produced by friend and frequent collaborator David Marinelli, was recorded entirely in the studio, live off the floor. It’s solid, tactile, nostalgic in a way that hits you right in the chest.

A true rock record, New Entertainment is asking to be played on your old record player or the tape deck of Joni, Drew’s 2001 Mazda pickup.

Today, Vancouver indie rocker and JUNO Award nominated artist-producer young friend is proud to release his debut album, motorcycle sound effects. The twelve-song effort feels like a culmination of everything multi-hyphenate Drew Tarves has accomplished since his 2021 breakout. He takes on the nuances of growing up (“soft light”) and builds a dynamic world full of intimate details about love (“the real deal”), lust (“boyfriend material”), bravado (“american spirit”), and anxiety (“loose”).

Drew Tarves appeared on Q with Tom Power last week, where the host described the album as being about your 20s. “The years that you figure out who you want to be but also who you don’t want to be, and what you’re going to do about it. The songs are messy and raw and self-reflective, but they’re still sunny.”

To help tell his story and build the world of motorcycle sound effects, Tarves worked with his friend and in-demand producer David Marinelli (FINNEAS, JAWNY, Spill Tab, Wallice). Between trips to Vancouver and Los Angeles, they crafted the narrative and honed it into a dynamic, genre-bending fever dream of an album.

young friend is also excited to embark on his first headlining Canada only tour. The tour kicks off on June 3rd in Windsor, Ontario, and wraps in Victoria, British Columbia, on July 5th. young friend will be joined by Frances Whitney and Sam Lynch for support. Drew Tarves' music as young friend feels classic and immediate all at once, capturing the nostalgia of post-adolescence while diving deep into a pool of self-reflection. His next project is bursting with big feelings and perfect golden light. It feels messy and raw, like long summer nights piling into the back of a pickup truck with all your friends, sprinting to catch the last summer sunset, taking off your shoes and dancing in the grass, falling, getting back up.

A trained dancer for most of his adolescence, the 24-year-old Vancouver native switched artistic disciplines after spending time jamming with his musician friends. "I found out very quickly that I loved it," he recalls. "It was my favorite thing to do." Armed with a guitar and a laptop, Tarves started hashing out early songwriting attempts on GarageBand as he found his own style that suited him: "It was all about experimenting while trying to find what worked for me."

motorcycle sound effects is really just about growing up. It’s about the people you encounter and the experiences that make you into the person that you are,” explains Tarves. “I really wanted to capture all the sides of the coin; the shitty sides, the side where I was wrong, the side where I did the right thing, and it still didn't work out, the side where something is new and exciting and it's all you can think about, all of it.”

Today, Vancouver indie rocker and artist-producer young friend announces his first headlining Canadian tour. “We wanted to just do a Canada only tour,” shares Drew Tarves. “It just didn't sit totally right going to the U.S. right now considering everything that's going on.”

The tour kicks off on June 3rd in Windsor, Ontario, and wraps in Edmonton, Alberta, on June 28th. Prior to that the 2024 JUNO Award- nominated artist will perform in his hometown during the 2025 JUNOfest on March 29th at the Fox Cabaret as well as March 28 at the RANGE Magazine x Play MPE JUNO Party at Fluevog Gastown. Tickets for the tour can be found HERE, and the full list of dates along with the tour poster are below.

young friend is also excited to share “trouble”, the last single before unveiling his debut album, motorcycle sound effects. “trouble” paints a dusky atmosphere as he reflects on a love that wasn’t meant to be. The sparse, almost improvised-sounding backing band adds to the spontaneous feel — like an early morning realization that things won’t be the same.

Tarves elaborates on the song’s meaning: “‘trouble’ feels to me like a bunch of dads that get together once a week to jam and play music with each other. The song itself is slow and a little loose, but feels like it hits all the right moments. trouble is meant to feel a bit like a walk down memory lane. You realize now this person wasn't any good for you but at the time it made you feel so alive.”
