Zeus, the quartet of Neil Quin, Mike O’Brien, Carlin Nicholson, and Rob Drake, returns this Fall with their fifth studio album, Lost & Found (The Say Us Archives). The project represents, in the words of the band, “an outward rebellion within their scene: the basic need to drop all egos and just make music together, regardless of the [album's] final destination or distribution”. It is the fruit born of a time when Zeus and the Toronto musical collective surrounding them were all working on their own independent projects—yet there was a deep, collective yearning to collaborate. Lost & Found (The Say Us Archives) is the result of looking back at songs written during this specific period in time that did not make the cut the first time around, but needed to be revisited.
Today, the band is sharing the first song from the album. “Lions Pride” is a song “that’s always had a special place in our hearts and is exciting for us to finally get to share it,” says O’Brien. “This collection in many ways tells the whole story of the inception of our band. Each songwriter coming from his separate corner and finding a sound together. These songs didn't end up fitting the picture that became Say Us but they serve to fill in the gaps in that time period. We hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane as much as we did.”

“After crossing the 15 year mark of the release of our debut album Say Us, we started to reflect on that time,” explains O’Brien. “It was a period of transition for many of the musicians in our scene. I was on a break from my band called Paso Mino with Afie Jurvanen (Bahamas) and Carlin was also taking a breather from his band The 68s. Neil had recently taken a break from touring with The Golden Dogs and was starting to demo his own songs. We began getting together to jam and show each other songs which soon led to recording some of these ideas.
“In the beginning there was no talk of starting a band, it was just friends helping each other realize our creative visions. Many of our musical friends would show up and inevitably play on these songs and before long we had something that started to look like an album. This time period was so fruitful that there were songs that got lost in the shuffle on the way to making Say Us. We wanted to dig back into that catalogue to let those ideas see the light of day. When we started to take stock we thought there may be a small handful of tunes that we could release but we soon realized there were more than we even remembered. We uncovered long forgotten gems from that time period. Some completely finished and some waiting to be dusted off and shined up. It was an exciting and rewarding process to give this old material a new life. We also included Neil's demo of a song called ‘Kindergarten’ that made it onto Say Us because we thought it was a cool glimpse behind the creative process.”
