Toronto’s favourite weekend music event and the unofficial kickoff to the city’s bustling summer festival season is back with its most diverse lineup yet, Saturday, June 4 and Sunday, June 5, 2016.

Four years into creating a world-class, boutique music event inside the gorgeous confines of the city's Historic Fort York & Garrison CommonField Trip is driven by the same themes of community and discovery. This year’s edition will again be programmed far beyond music to focus on highlighting Toronto’s best culinary offerings, as well as collaborative explorations on the themes of visual art, technology, fashion and more.

Saturday's musical performances will be headlined by indie institution The National, JUNO-Award winning rockers July Talk, the amazing energy of Santigold, Australia’s Boy & Bear, rising Toronto rapper Jazz Cartier, the progressive noise of Holy Fuck, Nashville’s Bully and many more.

On Sunday, Swedish pop queen Robyn will close the festival, supported by Athens, Georgia eccentrics of Montreal, soul legend Charles Bradley, Brooklyn shoegazers DIIV, A&C luminary Jason Collett and a mixture of Canada’s best indie that includes Plants & Animals, Basia Bulat, Dear Rouge and more.

2016 also brings another exciting year of expansion of Field Trip’s ‘Day Camp’ programming, where children 12 years old and under are admitted for free to enjoy a wealth of youth-focused activities and performances. Over the coming months we’ll be making several announcements about the full run of incredible programming on the Day Camp stage, where music, education, discovery and charity come like nowhere else.

Past TD Day Camp performances have included: Kevin Drew & Andy Kim, Max Kerman (Arkells), Torquil Campbell (Stars), Sharon & Bram, Emilie Mover, Girls Rock Camp, Toronto Music Camp and many more.

As well, 2016 promises the return of the Laugh Barracks, our indoor comedy showcase featuring performances from some of Toronto’s newest and best loved joke tellers.

And there’s more… Field Trip 2016 will include numerous artists in residence, each helping to transform the Fort York & Garrison Common site into an unforgettable visual exploration. Adding to that experience will be Field Trip’s second custom virtual reality experience, inspired by one of the festival’s performers and free for all attendees to try.

Add all of this to the collection of amazing food and drink vendors fans have come to expect from Field Trip and you can be sure the many diverse tastes and culinary styles alive in our great city will be well represented.

“There are many amazing festival experiences available to people these days, but we take great pride in the intimacy and diversity of Field Trip, and the deep connection we have with the City of Toronto,” said Aaron Miller, Manager of Events at Arts & Crafts. “Field Trip guarantees something for all of us, and something new each and every year.”

Ben Rogers’ new video for “Wild Roses” puts a new and twisted spin on the story of Cain and Abel, as if it had been set in the old west. Directed by Mike Southworth, the enticing tale and visually striking cinematography makes for a 'classic western' music video and tells the story of how history's first forbidden love triangle brought an earthly paradise to ruin.

“I wanted to write something that gets under your skin the way a song like 'Ghost Riders in the Sky' does,” say Rogers. “Something visceral and infectious. I find the story of Cain and Abel fascinating. After I read it I had a lot of questions. So I thought, what the hell, I'll write a song about it. I wanted to explore the forbidden love story not told in the Biblical version told from the killer's perspective. It's a fictional account of the origins of mankind that provides an explanation as to why the human race is as violent and depraved as it is today.”

Beginning this weekend Rogers will take his latest album, The Bloodred Yonder, on the road for a string of Canadian tour dates that includes Calgary’s Block Heater Festival, SXSW, and Bella Coola Festival.

Produced by JUNO Award nominated big brother Matt Rogers (The Harpoonist & The Axe Murderer), The Bloodred Yonder is what Rogers describes as "the transition from life to death, good to evil, paradise to perdition, and all the lost souls you meet along the way." Rogers' backing band includes some of western Canada's finest, with Matt Kelly (City and Color) on pedal steel and keys, Erik Nielsen (Rich Hope) on bass, John Sponarski (Portage and Main) on lead guitar, and Leon Power (Frazey Ford) on drums.

Based in Vancouver, Rogers is also an accomplished actor whose recent credits include Motive, CBC's Strange Empire, and a supporting role in dark comedy The Driftless Area starring Zooey Deschanel, Anton Yelchin, and John Hawkes that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. He has also penned songs with other artists including "Don't Make 'Em Like They Used To" and "Cry A Little" with The Harpoonist & The Axe Murderer and "Rise Up" for No Sinner.

ARTS & CRAFTS TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM FROM JEAN-MICHEL BLAIS

JEAN-MICHEL BLAIS ANNOUNCES Il
MONTREAL-BASED PIANIST TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM ON APRIL 8 VIA ARTS & CRAFTS

Arts & Crafts is proud to announce Il, the debut album from Montreal-based pianist Jean-Michel Blais. Blais possesses incredible melodic sensibilities as well as an ear for minimalism, using beauty and consonance as a basis for experimentation. Today FACT premiered “Nostos”, the “blearily beautifulfirst single from Il, featuring electronic musician Bufflo.  Il is out April 8 via Arts & Crafts and is available to pre-order HERE

Jean-Michel Blais is a 31 year-old pianist from the province of Quebec. His enchanting instrumental compositions pair the melodic pop sensibilities of Amélie-era Yann Tiersen and Arts & Crafts alumni Chilly Gonzales with the breathtaking technical skill of classical minimalists like Philip Glass and Erik SatieIl is his debut album of original compositions.

Blais grew up in a rural French Catholic town in Quebec bereft of Culture save for a giant encyclopedia he’d read feverishly as a child. At age 9, Blais began tinkering on his family’s organ, improvising, and at age 11 he started to write original compositions and began taking piano lessons. A natural talent, by 17 he was invited to the Trois-Rivieres Music Conservatory and began training as a classical pianist. However, Blais was entering the throes of teenage rebellion and found the constraints of formal training a cumbersome rigid structure. Gravitating towards experimentation, Blais wasn’t content to be told how to play, and instructed to not improvise or compose.

A few years later, he attracted the attention of famed playwright and director, Robert Lepage, who introduced Blais to a who’s-who of Quebec’s entertainment industry. With no particular plan for a music career, he quickly took a step back and decided it was time for more explorations.

He moved to Europe in his mid-twenties, living in Berlin, and spent six months in South America. During that time he’d intermittently compose music with long gaps of not even touching a piano. Blais finally settled in Montreal where he rediscovered his love for composing and performing which caught the ear of Arts & Crafts. Written and recorded at home over two years by improvising every day, Jean-Michel Blais’ debut album, Il, is now set to be released.
