“...the band mix ferocity with doom and atmospheric gloom, all played with their signature somewhat broken sound...If this is a taste of what's to come from FRIGS, consider our appetites well whetted.” - Exclaim! 9/10

Toronto-based four-piece FRIGS is celebrating the release of its latest EP, Slush, with a stream of the entire record via DIY Magazine. Released today via Arts & Crafts, Exclaim! gave the four-song EP a glowing 9/10 review claiming “If this is a taste of what's to come from FRIGS, consider our appetites well whetted, ” while DIY Magazine simply called Slush “a brilliant brainfreeze.”

FRIGS is made up of Bria, Duncan, Lucas, and Edan. The band pairs the raw, emotional grunge of PJ Harvey with the immersive, psychedelic post-punk of early Sonic Youth. With each member bringing a unique set of influences, FRIGS creates a sound that is hard to pin down and an impression that’s unshakable.

Led by the force of Bria’s vocals, the band has earned a reputation for putting on a hypnotic and visceral live performance. Embracing the mercurial and experimental, their shows are built upon instinct; a vocal growl can unexpectedly give way to a hushed whisper; languid drones boil over into guttural and searing tones.

As members of Toronto’s multi-disciplined Heretical Objects Cooperative, community and collaboration are essential to FRIGS approach and aesthetic. Maintaining the communal, do-it- yourself spirit of their forebearers, the band bought recording equipment and turned their Toronto apartment into a studio where they wrote, engineered, and mixed their forthcoming EP, Slush.

With a few short weeks remaining before River Tiber releases his long-gestating and highly-anticipated debut full length album Indigo, the Toronto producer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, aka Tommy Paxton-Beesley, is giving us another peek at the record with a new track,“I’m A Stone”, premiering today via Mass Appeal.

Set for release on June 24, Indigo furthers the silky, midnight-hued electronic R&B aesthetic of the wunderkind’s previous EPs, 2013’s The Star Falls and 2015’s When The Time Is Right, and joins an ever-growing catalogue that features collaborations with Kaytranada, Pusha T, Daniel Caesar, Jazz Cartier, and more. Previously, River Tiber released album single “Acid Test” which was named the “World Record”on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show.

Indigo sees Paxton-Beesley demonstrating his unique ability as a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer and creative force. He writes, arranges, plays, and records almost every element on every composition, but also uses collaboration as a tool to generate and hone ideas. “Acid Test” is a shining example, as Paxton-Beesley lays drums, bass, synth and cello as a powerful, psychedelic base beneath layers of his airy, soulful vocals. The track also features contributions from members of his live band - Thadeus Garwood, John Mavro, Danny Voicu, and David Lewis.

In two short years River Tiber has developed a global reputation as a producer, not only for the acumen and singularity of vision demonstrated in his own music and collaborations, but also for his work with beat maker heavyweights like Frank Dukes that have lead to vocal placements and session credits on songs by Drake, Travis Scott, Mac Miller, Freddie Gibbs, and more. Last year he also worked closely with friends BADBADNOTGOOD in arranging and playing cello, violin and trombone to the group’s Ghostface Killah collab Sour Soul and was one of just three Canadians selected to Red Bull Music Academy Paris.

River Tiber will play select shows through 2016, including Halifax Jazz, WayHome Music & Arts, Forecastle, Neon Desert, and a handful of dates supporting Kaytranada on his 99.9% tour. More dates to be announced soon at rivertiber.com

SLUSH EP OUT JUNE 10 VIA ARTS & CRAFTS

"It's visceral. It spits." - Noisey

The Toronto-based four-piece FRIGS recently announced signing to Arts & Crafts for the release of a new EP, Slush, out June 10 and have already shared a video for the EP’s first single, “God Hates A Coward”. Now you can hear a new track from the EP, “Ringworm” today courtesy of Noisey.

Having been re-recorded several times throughout multiple iterations of the song, “Ringworm” is a bit of an oddity for FRIGS. “It kind of stuck out to us, we don't really write short upbeat tracks like this,” says Bria. “Lyrically, I wrote it at a time when I felt like I was surrounded by arrogant men who felt superior to me and everyone else around them, which in turn made them overconfident in their ‘courting’ methods. I don't wanna sound preachy or anything but, I think a lot of women can relate to that feeling when there are men in their life, even if it is only briefly, who make them roll their eyes and feel annoyed. But at the same time feel a kind of indifferent exhaustion. So, I guess the song is just a fuck you, whatever, you are a brat, goodbye I'm going to live my life.”
