Today, BC songwriter and newest artist on Dallas Green’s Still Records, Ben Rogers is sharing another new single from his upcoming LP.  Exclaim! calls “A Changed Man” a “melancholic Americana-tinged ballad that was inspired by the dark experiences of others.” Rogers comments he “loosely based it on a true story. But, the more I wrote, the more I realized that it is based on many true stories. Far too many. Domestic violence is endemic and I dedicate it to the victims and survivors of abuse.”

“A Changed Man” is the first song Rogers wrote for his upcoming album, which was produced by Green. “It opened up a different aspect of my voice that I hadn’t previously been in touch with,” says Rogers. “In a way it felt like the first time I’d ever actually sang in my life. It was the beginning of my rebirth as a songwriter and performer.”

With a pair of acclaimed solo albums to his name – 2015’s The Bloodred Yonder and 2013’s Lost Stories: Volume OneBen Rogers has been turning heads with compelling songs and captivating performances for a while now. On his previous records, listeners were gravitating towards his fresh take on country-tinged folk and Americana, Rogers found himself drifting away from it. Last month Rogers gave us a taste of the new direction he’s headed with, “Steady Going Nowhere”, a song about "the streets and alleys of East Vancouver and it's dedicated to the people who call those streets and alleys home,” says Rogers.

The sound – still rooted in folk and Americana, though now with an earnest new attitude permeates throughout – is a raw, hazy, rock-inspired swagger that channels the likes of possessed masterminds from Nick Cave to Otis Redding to Marc Bolan of T.Rex. Put simply, it is enveloping and the authenticity is palpable.

Winnipeg’s Living Hour recently announced its sophomore LP, Softer Faces, due out March 1 via Kanine Records. A follow-up to their highly-praised 2016 S/T debut, it features the haunting, ethereal vocals of lead singer Sam Sarty accompanied by lush, expansive instrumentation.

The band shared a first taste of their new record with hazy, hypnotic leading single “Bottom Step”, and now they’ve released a lyric video for the track. NPR says "Bottom Step" “softly but assertively navigates the feeling of rejection, accented by delicate synth and brass. The song's accompanying visuals expand upon the protagonist's yearning for solitude, as Sarty enjoys a solo swim.”

The band has announce tour dates for early 2019, including performances in Saskatoon, Calgary, Rossland, and Edmonton before heading to Austin for SXSW. Full tour dates can be found below.

Living Hour has been expanding since their humble basement beginnings in 2015. Now a quintet, rounded out by Gil Carroll (guitar), Adam Soloway (guitar, vocals), Alex Chochinov (drums, trumpet, orangelle), and Brett Ticzon (bass, vocals), Living Hour’s emotive vocals, intricate harmonies, with dreamy washes of guitar, bass, keys, and horns sees the band pulling from many genres to create their own diverse vibe that's intimate, honest, and vulnerable.

Softer Faces was produced by Kurt Feldman (The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Chairlift, DIIV, Dum Dum Girls) in Living Hour’s hometown and mixed by Jarvis Taveniere (Real Estate, Woods, Blouse, Widowspeak) at Thump Studios in Brooklyn.

Known for their mesmerizing and deeply-moving live show, Living Hour has toured Europe, the UK and North America. Their performance captures the dreamy, emotional power of the band’s recordings, creating a mesmerizing, unforgettable, cathartic, and deeply moving live music experience. Sarty finds that, "Sometimes people are a little turned off and not living in the now or being present. I find that when you perform, it's one of the most present moments that you can be in. You're living in the hour." The band is currently wrapping up a North American tour -- see below for upcoming dates.

"...one of the single most promising voices to emerge from Canada in recent
memory." - Flood Magazine

"’Everything Apart’ is one of the most imaginative, gorgeous, and stylish singles of 2018, and if listeners can expect the same amount of talent and charm from the album, this will be a quick contender for Album of the Year." – Atwood Magazine

As college friends, Foxwarren - Andy Shauf (guitars/keys/vocals) and his childhood friends Dallas Bryson (guitar/vocals) and brothers Darryl Kissick (bass) and Avery Kissick (drums & percussion) - initially bonded over Pedro the Lion and drew influence from The Band and Paul Simon.

“To Be” was one of the first songs written for the project. “We tinkered with it for ages and ended up drastically reworking it the weekend it was recorded, but we knew early on that it was going to be the opening song on the record,” Darryl said.

“It was a guitar riff that I'd been playing for a few years at least, trying to figure out what to do with it,” adds Shauf. “It went through quite a few versions if I remember correctly. Foxwarren have a bad habit of never finishing vocal melodies and lyrics before we finish the music, so it made it a bit tricky and ended up being overhauled at the last minute.”

Now a decade into the project, Shauf reflects on their debut release: “So much time and effort went into making this album; it's something I think we're all really proud of. My touring and recording schedule got pretty wild over the past three or four years, so it put the Foxwarren album on the backburner. Making the album was such an enjoyable time - the collaboration and frustration of it all. All of us trying to make something better than we previously had. I'm excited to get it out into the world and have other people listen to it. We've been a band for 10 years or so and never properly released an album, so this is special for the four of us.”
