Today, Winnipeg’s Living Hour shares "Water", the second single from their upcoming album, Softer Faces. The band teamed up with filmmaker Ryan Steel for a short film to accompany the song.

Steel says: "'Water' is a video about winter in Winnipeg. The video was shot covertly on the streets and in the homes of friends and grandmothers. Liminal spaces such as buses, shopping malls, and arcades all percolate together. Periods of rest and the textures of winter were captured on the outdated medium of 16mm film.”

Everything about Winnipeg’s Living Hour has been expanding since their humble basement beginnings in 2015. What started with dreamy love songs inspired by the cinematic sky of their hometown has transformed into even more sprawling and expansive expressions on their latest effort, Softer Faces due March 1, via Kanine Records.

What started as a quartet is now a quintet, though still led by the smoky, ethereal lead vocals of Sam Sarty (vocals, trombone, keyboard), who started singing in choirs at a young age. With her strong vocal backbone, musicians Gil Carroll (guitar), Adam Soloway (guitar, vocals), Alex Chochinov (drums, trumpet, organelle), and Brett Ticzon (bass, vocals) are able to shine. Three voices, guitar, trombone, brushed percussion, and boundless effects sees Living Hour pulling from many genres to create their own sonically diverse and unique vibe.

Softer Faces follows up to their highly-praised 2016 S/T debut, featuring haunting, ethereal vocals accompanied by lush, expansive instrumentation. The LP was produced by Kurt Feldman (The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Chairlift, DIIV, Dum Dum Girls) in Living Hour’s hometown and mixed by Jarvis Taveniere (Real Estate, Woods, Blouse, Widowspeak) at Thump Studios in Brooklyn.

Known for their mesmerizing and deeply-moving live show, Living Hour has toured Europe, the UK and North America. Their performance captures the dreamy, emotional power of the band’s recordings, creating a mesmerizing, unforgettable, cathartic, and deeply moving live music experience. Sarty finds that, "Sometimes people are a little turned off and not living in the now or being present. I find that when you perform, it's one of the most present moments that you can be in. You're living in the hour."

BEN ROGERS ANNOUNCES NEW LP VIA DALLAS GREEN’S STILL RECORDS, SHARES NEW SINGLE

It’s called a controlled burn – an ecological intervention of sorts whereby a forest is intentionally set ablaze in order to start anew, to stave off suffocation and spur new growth.

British Columbia singer-songwriter, Ben Rogers proudly announces his album Wildfire, produced by Dallas Green (City and Colour, Alexisonfire, You+Me) will be released March 1. Already marked as one of Exclaim!’s Most Anticipated Albums Of 2019 and one of Amazon Music Canada's Artists To Watch in 2019, Wildfire will be the sophomore release on Dallas Green’s newly minted Still Records. Fans can pre-order or pre-save the album HERE.

Wildfire sees Rogers drifting away from the sounds of his first two acclaimed solo albums, 2015’s The Bloodred Yonder and 2013’s Lost Stories: Volume One. The sound is still rooted in folk and Americana, with an earnest new attitude permeating throughout. It has a raw, hazy, rock-inspired swagger that channels the likes of possessed masterminds from Nick Cave to Otis Redding to Marc Bolan of T.Rex. Put simply, it is enveloping, and the authenticity is palpable.

Indie88 calls “Rattle Your Chains a “powerful” track. The third single from Wildfire, “Rattle Your Chains” is now available HERE following the previously released tracks “Steady Going Nowhere” and “A Changed Man”.  Rogers says, “When I wrote “Rattle Your Chains” I was flat broke, had just been dumped on Christmas morning and had no idea where my life was headed. The verses came in droves and then I cut and pasted them all together. It started as a jilted love song but turned into something much more than that. Turns out I was pissed off about a lot of other things too.”

Wildfire was penned by Rogers and brought to life under the guidance of a new collaborator - Dallas Green, sitting in the producer’s chair for his first time. Ironically, their partnership was born during a period that each was overcoming a creative impasse.

Green explains what initially drew him to the project: “I recognized something really special about this collection of songs – this vulnerability from Ben was really moving to me. I think it was a brilliant experience for all of us and resulted in a really beautiful record. Not only do I believe in it and think it’s fantastic, but it also did something for me; it really opened a whole new chapter of my creative life.”

Rogers echoes the sentiment. “I can tell Dallas cares about this project as much as I do. He is just so devoted to the process. He really challenged us, but with a generosity of spirit that you just don’t encounter that often. It was the best experience I’ve ever had on a creative level.”

Rounding out the recording experience were co-producer Karl Bareham (City and Colour) and Rogers’ long time band: Matt Kelly (City and Colour) on pedal steel and keys, Erik Nielsen (Dralms, Rich Hope) on bass, John Sponarski (Aaron Pritchett) on lead guitar, and Leon Power (Frazey Ford) at the kit.

Beginning March 18, Rogers will take Wildfire on the road with Bahamas for a run of Canadian tour dates throughout Ontario. Full tour dates can be found below with tickets on sale now Ticket links can be found HERE.

“What is the future, if this is now?” asks Canadian-born Mike Edel on his upcoming album Thresholds due out March 1. This question, echoing throughout groove of the song “Challenger”, similarly echoes throughout Edel’s entire record, produced by Death Cab for Cutie’s Chris Walla.

Thresholds is a compelling departure for Edel and after adopting a consistency is boring mantra and a tireless year in the studio, Edel’s sound has evolved and this is his most intriguing album yet. From the indie-pop chiller “Go With You” to the CBC Music Top 20, thirties are the new twenties anthem, “31”, Edel presents stand-alone singles that present a uniform theme throughout the 10-song effort.

Today, Edel shares radio rocker “Houdini”, a song in which he blew out his vocal chords each day he tracked the song. It’s one of my proudest moments as an artist because ‘letting go’, and co-writer Chris Walla’s heavy handed production, resulted in a song that sounds new and really stretched me to cross my own sonic thresholds.” “Houdini” is available across all digital platforms on January 18.

Edel’s music has been streamed 2 million times across major platforms, being in rotation on CBC Music, AAA Radio across the United States, and on Sirius XM’s The Loft. In the past few years he’s played hundreds of shows including Rifflandia Festival, Vancouver Folk Festival, Regina Folk Festival, Victoria International Jazz Festival, and Upstream Music Festival, having shared the stage with Serena Ryder, Foy Vance, Said The Whale, and Josh Garrels.
