Today, Winnipeg roots rockers and JUNO Award Winners The Bros. Landreth are sharing “Got To Be You”, the feel-good lead track from their highly anticipated sophomore record, ‘87. The tune, co-written by Joey and Dave Landreth alongside longtime Zac Brown Band collaborator Wyatt Durette, is a light hearted earworm about being so over the moon in love with a knock-out human being. Love, however, is not a story often heard in the band’s musical catalogue of heartbreakers. Joey Landreth quotes, “Whenever ideas like this come around, I usually let them fall by the wayside. I found myself in a room writing with Wyatt he asked if I wanted to go for lunch or try another tune? We ended up with ‘Got to Be You’, and also going for lunch. I brought it home to Dave and he made a few Dave-esque songwriting tweaks, and what you get is what you got!”

“It’s bouncy, light-hearted, and feel good,” says Dave. “Three things that we don’t often combine in the Bros. Landreth catalogue of sad heart-breakers. It’s all about loving that someone and being so over the moon that you’re with such a knock-out human being. This song is so much fun to play and was such a riot to record. Joey layered the wildest guitar parts and put down one of my favourite solos on the record. Duke (Darryl Havers) added in a really fun lilting piano part that ended up being the cherry on top and tipping it over, firmly and unabashedly, into Little Feat territory.”

The track is the first taste of what’s to come on the band’s upcoming release ‘87, due out September 27, 2019 on the band’s own freshly launched record label imprint Birthday Cake (Sony Music Canada/The Orchard). Teaming up in studio with drummer Ryan Voth, guitarist Ariel Posen, and the band’s longtime producer Murray Pulver, the soon to be released album is an exciting evolution of the band’s sound, honed by thousands of hours on stage and filtered through the lens of the last many years on the road. “We’ve got hundreds and hundreds of shows and thousands and thousands of miles under our belts. This next record has a confidence that we didn’t have - couldn’t have with the first.”

Before they were The Bros. Landreth, Joey and Dave were only looking for a good excuse to spend a little more time together. They had spent their respective early years backing up other artists and touring the world as hired musicians until one particularly long and challenging tour prompted Joey to call his older brother with a simple proposal. “When I get home, let’s sit down and make some noise together” was the call that would be the turning point – seeing them focus on their own roots rock sound that went on to be celebrated on their acclaimed debut album, Let It Lie.

Originally released in their hometown of Winnipeg in 2013, Let It Lie was re-released in 2015 after signing a record deal with Nashville-based Slate Creek Records. The album received widespread acclaim, won multiple awards including a JUNO Award, and propelled the band to play over 400 tour dates around the world. A Rolling Stone review praised the band’s “quiet storm of slide guitar solos, blue notes, three part harmonies”. Lifelong musical hero, Bonnie Raitt, was equally impressed after catching the band’s set, saying "I haven't liked a band as much as The Bros. Landreth in a long time. To hear this kind of funky, southern style rock played with such originality and soul will knock you out."

Then, the band went on a hiatus. A break afforded Joey Landreth the opportunity release and extensively tour two solo albums, Whiskey (2017) and Hindsight (2019), furthering his reputation for being a first-rate guitar slinger, songwriter, and performer in his own right. Joey’s booming solo career might have delayed the timeline for the brothers, yet they never stopped writing songs that would eventually be recorded for their long awaited, follow-up release. “The time off that we took between touring Let It Lie and coming back together to make this next album was really difficult.” Dave says. “It was tough, but we needed to do it. Being away from each other gave us some really valuable perspective. It let us realize just how important and deeply satisfying it is for us to make music together and that’s something that we won’t soon forget.”

The Bros. Landreth’s journey took some unexpected turns, but ultimately reaffirmed two brother’s earnest desire to make honest music together. Their new album’s title, ’87, is a nod to the real beginning of the band; the year they became brothers.

“The Montreal singer-songwriter’s debut album uses heartbreak as the springboard for an innovative brand of indie rock that’s both fiery and introspective.”
- Pitchfork

“If What We Say In Private is any indication, Levy’s dreams are sky-high. Using pop structures as a foundation, her debut as Ada Lea explores the full spectrum of human emotion, with a lyrical rawness that is both disarming and life-affirming.” - Bandcamp Daily

“While the Montreal songwriter’s debut is as open and vulnerable as a diary entry, it’s not messy—it's careful and intentional." - VICE, ‘The Week’s Best Albums’

"Ada Lea's workmanship is striking on what we say in private, as she delicately showcases both the chaos and beauty of change." – Exclaim!

Ada Lea’s acclaimed debut album what we say in private arrived in stores and online last Friday, July 19th, via Next Door Records, and has been earning great press from outlets including Pitchfork, Exclaim!, NPR Music (‘New Music Friday: Our Top 8 Albums For July 19), VICE, The FADER, FLOOD, Paste, Northern Transmissions and The Boston Globe (“one of the most striking records of the year”), among many others. The project of Montreal-based artist and musician Alexandra Levy, Ada Lea also today shared a colorful stop motion animation video for “wild heart,” created by Gaia Alari. Watch it now HERE. The clip follows additional videos for pre-release singles “what makes me sad,” “the party,” and “mercury,” which earned also praise from outlets including Gorilla vs. Bear, Brooklyn Vegan, and Under The Radar. what we say in private is available to purchase or stream HERE.

Ada Lea heads back out on the road in North America early next month, beginning on the 1st in Toronto. She will then head overseas for the first time in October for a run of dates throughout Europe and the UK, including stops at London Calling in Amsterdam and the Mirrors Festival in London. All tour dates are listed below.

To Levy -- who is also a painter -- music and visual art are different vessels for communicating similar ideas. “It's a world that I can build around me and sit inside,” she says. Through all her art, Levy explores the concept of womanhood as it feels and looks to her, as well as love and how it transforms over time. She doesn’t shy away from exploring uncomfortable and painful emotions, either. With the brightness of love, strength, and hope contrasted with the darkness of loss, suffering, isolation, and abandonment, the Ada Lea album what we say in private is a varied and vivid record that constantly seems to shift in the light, bringing together all the intricate influences she’s collected over the years.

what we say in private began with a need to document the ending of an important romantic relationship. Following a tormented period of staying up all night (sometimes days at a time), frantically painting or writing songs as a means of coping, she journaled for 180 days in the hope of finding herself again. She conducted this period of analysis and introspection in private, like most of her creative pursuits, and the process eventually resulted in a rebirth: a rediscovery of self and a new sense of freedom and self-acceptance. These chaotic feelings and the resulting catharsis are deeply felt in the final recording of what we say in private. Levy wanted the album to feel like a journal entry from those 180 days as she cycled through emotions. Throughout, she expresses feelings and thoughts that all humans experience behind closed doors and alone, but are conditioned to keep to themselves.

“Connecting his love of both dance music and new wave pop, while subtly taking on queer political issues in his lyrics” - VICE

“A sonic leap forward for the Toronto producer, while still maintaining the inherent hazy chillness we fell in love with in the first place” - Silent Shout

“While his club inspirations are easy to spot on debut Mutate Repeat Infinity, he’s still got a least one foot in the indie pop world” - NOW

“Bound Together” is the first track from Scott Hardware since 2016’s Mutate Repeat Infinity, which finds the avant-pop artist combining acoustic instrumentations with deep electronic flourishes.

On “Bound Together” Hardware continues his quest to find the limit of what can be called ‘electronic music.’ Dusty pianos and heavy drums rub up against digital squeaks and squeals to dazzling effect, all anchored by a naked vocal performance.

Recorded live off the floor with Toronto scene heavy-hitters Carlyn Bezic (Ice Cream) and Simone Tisshaw-Baril (Highest Order, Tropics, Partner) as rhythm section, “Bound Together” feels warm and alive and is brought into another realm by the haunted backup-vocals of Deidre Nox.

Lyrically, the song follows the thought process of someone having been cut off from communication from a loved one. The song follows its narrator through embarrassment, to desperation to at last, resignation. At the song’s crescendo we hear Hardware justifying the mania : ‘(there’s) a million reasons why I need to hear my baby tell,” and then as if having given up: ‘he’s having the time of his life’.
