Multi award-winning artist Donovan Woods' new single “While All The While” is out today. Co-written with GRAMMY Award-winning songwriter Lori McKenna (Little Big Town; Tim McGraw), the track explores a journey of life’s everyday, seemingly mundane moments that make up the fabric of our lives. Accompanying the track is a mini EPK in which Woods interprets humans' double-lives as we keep certain people and memories in the back of our minds throughout the day.

“While All The While” is essentially Woods’ songwriting in miniature, a portrait of quotidian life that swells into a poignant meditation on how we sit with and reconcile our conflicted feelings. “Therapy helped guide me into the idea that it’s OK to be sad. I can be sad and still make jokes and laugh. I can be sad and sing. I can be sad while still being grateful and happy that people come see my shows and care about the songs I make,” Woods says.

“I brought this idea to Lori, and we tried to write a song about just that. Getting up and going on with life,” he adds. “A little celebration of the things we do while all the while a little sadness is still there with us.”

“Nature, Man & Woman is an immersive trip in the spirit of Alice Coltrane. "Badge Theme" crackles for its entire 14-minute runtime, while "Zealous Child" turns nimbly on multiple tempo changes and a breezy vocal from Dorothea Paas" Exclaim! 8/10

"Drawing on prog, psych, and funk with flute at its forefront, the band sounds like a dusty dollar bin record with grooves scorching hot enough to melt unsuspecting minds." Bandcamp

To celebrate the release of their new EP, Nature, Man & Woman, Badge Époque Ensemble are sharing a new video for the title track. “Nature, Man & Woman” represents a “departure in approach for the Ensemble,” says band leader Maximilian ‘Twig’ Turnbull. “It was created by method of collage, where I repurposed previously recorded material, cutting old fragments into new loops, and overdubbing new sounds onto this sampled framework. BÉE has always been informed by sampled music in our approach, this track makes that link most explicit.”

Out today via Telephone Explosion, Nature, Man & Woman provides a revealing glimpse of a musically omnivorous approach. The simmering new platter containing 3 songs, producing 26 minutes of dank flute-oriented atmosphere.

The A side contains 2 songs, which seem to hint at diverging future directions this eclectic combo might take moving forward. Title track “Nature, Man & Woman” closes out the side with 6 ominous minutes of mysterious provenance. Somewhere between a live performance and a collaged tapestry, the group make more explicit than ever before their affinity for beat- centric loop music. Sounding like Lonnie Liston Smith gone trip-hop for a broadcast prohibited episode of Law & Order, BÉE posit themselves here as amongst the moodiest of contemporary instrumental collectives. Little wonder that library music enthusiasts around the world have made emphatic note of the Ensemble.

2020 will see the group returning to the studio, refining new arrangements. Until then we have a generous and unusual second helping to help us puzzle over what sounds Badge Époque Ensemble may investigate next.

BRANDON WOLFE SCOTT (YUKON BLONDE) WONDERS IF YOU BELIEVE IN SANTA ON NEW HOLIDAY SINGLE

This holiday season, Brandon Wolfe Scott, best known as the guitarist and co-songwriter in the JUNO Award nominated Yukon Blonde, wants to know you if you believe in Santa? His new single, “Do You Believe In Santa?” follows a skeptical kid who just can’t seem to stay up late enough on Christmas Eve to catch a glimpse of Santa Claus, and as a result, always has to wait an entire year for the next big chance.

“I grew up in the early 90’s where John Hughes films and Mariah Carey dominated the holidays,” says Scott. “When I started writing Do You Believe In Santa?’ I wanted a Christmas song that would capture that same nostalgic feeling.” The ‘home-music-video’ for the track was largely inspired by a scene from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation when Clark Griswold finds an old reel to reel of heartwarming family footage in his attic. “I had my parents mail me the best of our family holiday VHS tapes from 1993-1995 and it was actually very emotional editing through 6 hours of Christmas past. Every year I talk about putting out a Christmas single and now I can’t believe it’s actually happening!”

“Do You Believe In Santa?” will be available to stream on all platforms, tomorrow, December 6.

After the holidays are over, Brandon Wolfe Scott will release Burden On Your Shoulders EP via Dine Alone Records. In the winter months of 2019 Yukon Blonde found themselves with time off between tours, giving Scott the opportunity to turn his tiny living room space into a minimal recording set up. It was here he wrote and produced his sophomore EP Burden On Your Shoulders.

“Being fully immersed in the recording process became a comforting experience and a constant learning curve. Working at my own pace, deliberately tracking with limitations, helped me shape a cohesive sound that feels like the most genuine thing I’ve done.”

Scott has settled into a natural songwriting style - paying homage to the golden era of the 70’s drawing inspiration from Al Stewart, Todd Rundgren and Beatle favourite; George Harrison - whilst still maintaining a modern approach through his introspective lyrics laced with lush harmonies.
