Liza Anne today released, “Change My Mind” from her forthcoming album Bad Vacation, out July 24 on Arts & Crafts Records. Bad Vacation marks a new sonic direction for Liza and is a hybrid of new wave, art rock and 90s indie grunge-pop and is set to establish Liza as a breakthrough independent artist and a bold young voice in mental health self awareness.

The track’s punchy guitar and Sci-Fi synths soundtrack Liza’s self-reflective vocals, which analyze the intertwining of egos and confrontation in relationships. Consequence of Sound, said of the track “with Byrne-ian cadences over punchy instrumentation and the occasional zap of synth, the song has all the frantic energy one feels when you’re trying to argue with yourself to stop arguing.”

Discussing the new song, Liza stated, “‘Change My Mind’ is a chaotic puzzle of emotions of all the places I tend to go when I am angry and feel my back to the wall. I have a really hard time letting my guard down in conflict - I tend to get defensive and sensitive and throw my walls up. Where there is inflamed ego, there’s hardly room for understanding. This song holds hope of wanting the person on the other side to be there while you soften up, someone to challenge you to a place of connection, someone who is safe to grow in front of and with. I am so sad that I ever learned conflicts in relationships are something to be won - you’re on the same team. Winning is connection.”

Bad Vacation has been compared to the work of a diverse range of artists from contemporaries including St. Vincent to legendary art rock group, Talking Heads. Liza recently received acclaim from NPR Music who stated, “it feels good to hear [Liza] casting off the parts of her life that bring her down,” AV Club praised Liza’s blend of “old-school indie and Fleetwood Mac-esque melodic flourishes, with a passion that simultaneously evokes contemporaries like Courtney Barnett.” Paste described Liza as “freely electrifying,” with AVClub and Paste including Liza in their features on albums they are excited about in 2020.

Liza has opened sold out runs with Kacey Musgraves and Ray LaMontagne, made her national television debut on CONAN, and won praise from Hayley Williams who asked Liza to join Paramore on their inaugural Art + Friends festival. Liza recently launched  #EmotionalHealth2020 rallies - a live mental health focused interview series airing weekly on Liza’s Instagram. Each Tuesday at 6 PM CT featuring Liza with friends and collaborators including Shamir, Madison Cunningham, and Caroline Rose, with more on deck for future conversations, including  Daisha McBride.

Bad Vacation is a self aware account of the emotionally difficult years that followed Fine But Dying’s success. The album reflects on her teenage years where she broke free of a repressive religious environment as well as her later self destructive years and the healing that followed. Much of the album focuses on the time on tour and where, fresh out of an exhausting relationship, which took a considerable toll on both her physical and mental health, Liza found herself often at her lowest and gained the insight that she was behaving in a way she learned to be destructive. Liza said, “I was a wreck. I was on a bender for emotional safety, not knowing that I could be my own healing space.”

She underwent intensive therapy that led to painful reckonings and valuable epiphanies to write her way out of the panic and anxiety, writing odes to autonomy and self-respect and who she wanted to see in the mirror.

The album was tracked in Kyle Ryan’s studio, Wardenclyffe South, in Nashville (With the exception of “Devotion” and “Desire” which were tracked at Kingsize Studios and Chez JMJ), with her touring band (guitarist Robbie Jackson, bassist Josh Gilligan, and drummer Cody Carpenter), alongside Nashville musician, Lou Hayat who creatively contributed to the project, adding french spoken word vocals and synth parts.

Liza Anne has created a virtual retreat to accompany her album release, a ‘Bad Vacation’ micro-site – featuring a 1-800 hotline, reading list, playlist, bundles, and more at BadVacation.co. This is where you’ll learn - A Bad Vacation with Liza Anne is better than a good day anywhere else!

Bombay Bicycle Club are very pleased to share the next track from their forthcoming EP, a cover of Bonnie Raitt’s seminal “Two Lives”. The cover sits alongside a cluster of acoustic reworkings of songs from their recent Everything Else Has Gone Wrong LP, and the EP title shares the same name as the Bonnie Raitt song, “Two Lives”.

Singer and guitarist Jack Steadman explains: “My dad introduced me to this beautiful Bonnie Raitt song on one of our long car journeys, and I instantly fell in love with the harmonies. We also felt it was a fitting title for our EP where we showcase the two lives of our songs, one that is layered and one stripped back.”

The four track EP is released on July 24 via Arts & Crafts. The stripped-back versions were mostly recorded at vocalist Jack Steadman’s home studio during lockdown, and took on a real back-to-basics, DIY approach to the recording and production process. “Let You Go” and “Racing Stripes” are already streaming and available to listen and watch today.

Youth Music (https://www.youthmusic.org.uk/) invests in music programs for young people in deprived areas, building confidence, resilience and self-esteem.

Bombay Bicycle Club recently shared a Spotify Singles release, including their spell-binding cover of Selena Gomez’s “Lose You To Love Me”. Joined by long standing collaborator Rae Morris to share vocals on the cover, the band also recorded a complete reimagining of recent single “I Can Hardly Speak” at London’s Abbey Road Studios. Listen to both recordings here:   https://bombaybicycleclub.lnk.to/SpotifySessionsSo

Like so many artists right across the globe, Bombay Bicycle Club were preparing themselves for a huge summer of festival performances, including headline slots at All Points East and Truck Festival, before the Coronavirus put paid to those plans before they’d even started.

The band’s new album, Everything Else Has Gone Wrong, marked an explosive comeback at the start of the year following several years hiatus.

DONOVAN WOODS SHARES THE NEW SINGLE “CLEAN SLATE”

“Donovan Woods is no stranger to making music that tugs at the heart-strings.” - The FADER

"He’s got a knack for slice-of-life storytelling that blends heartache and hooks." - Rolling Stone

Donovan Woods paints themes of heartache and joy, connection and redemption in such vivid hues that, even if you don't know the characters in his songs, we all see ourselves in his narratives. It’s a skill that’s earned him critical acclaim around the world and high-profile credits including Tim McGraw (‘Portland, Maine’), Charles Kelley of Lady A (‘Leaving Nashville’) and Billy Currington (‘Sweet Love’).

With over 265 million global streams to date, his acclaim resulted in a JUNO Award for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year for his most recent album Both Ways.

Woods is now ready for an even wider international discovery, which begins with the release of his new single “Clean Slate”. Shimmering guitars and a subtle synth melody adds a widescreen indie-rock feel to his folk and country roots. The result offers a broader crossover appeal which also echoes the exemplary songwriting of Jason Isbell with the honest reflection of Lucero. It captures the early optimism of new-found love and the hope that, somehow, things will be different this time around.

“This is a love song about falling in love and how it makes you feel like you’re a new person,” says Woods. “But slowly you realise you’re still the same person with all the hang-ups you’ve always had, and it’s a drag. It feels like the narrator will hear this song five years from now and feel embarrassed. What I love about it is that it feels like a very pure expression by someone with the best intentions.”

Woods co-wrote “Clean Slate” with Jeremy Spillman and Warner Nashville country artist Tucker Beathard, with production from Todd Clark (Noah Kahan, Dua Lipa).

“Clean Slate” heralds the start of a new approach from Woods. Throughout his upcoming releases, Woods will support black and indigenous business communities, struggling artists and independent record stores that have been affected by the pandemic. Woods explains in the full post on Instagram:

“Soon I’ll be releasing new music, and I’ll promote it on my social media platforms, but I’m not interested in getting back to business as usual. This release will feel different, purposefully. So many artists are out of work, or in precarious situations. We’ll be diverting funds that would normally go to advertising and hiring independent creators.

We’ll be using promo budgets to support Black-owned and indigenous-owned businesses, and partnering with independent record stores to make ordering vinyl easier and more meaningful.

This new record is about the hopelessness of writing relationship songs when it feels like it’s the end of the world. Hopefully it’s just the end of the unjust world we’ve known. Reach out with any ideas you might have and I’ll see you soon”

Recently, Donovan Woods joined artists from across the country for Canada, Lean On Me, a project that celebrated the late, great Bill Withers and worked to raise funds for the Canadian Red Cross. Other artists in the project included Buffy Saint-Marie, Justin Bieber, Jann Arden, Fefe Dobson, Avril Lavigne, Geddy Lee, Michael Bublé, Serena Ryder, Scott Helman, and many more.
