LIVESTREAM PERFORMANCE + AMA TODAY VIA REDDIT AT 2PM ET

"Although elements of Deland and Ouri’s solo practices undeniably come through on Hildegard, as a whole it feels like a remarkably realized whole...a satisfying and invigorating document—the mark of not just instinctual collaboration, but of complete transformation." Pitchfork

“On Hildegard, Deland and Ouri come together as one, their identities fusing into an entity that embodies the best they both have to offer and then some...Rare are projects that push the boundaries of both of the parties involved. Deland and Ouri make each other better. They enter a particular synergy, close to something transcendental and spiritual, enough to turn any listener into a devout follower praying for a follow-up.- Exclaim! 9/10

“Jour 8” Video Still

Hildegard – electronic duo featuring experimental singer-songwriter Helena Deland and multi-instrumentalist/producer Ouri (Ourielle Auvé) – have shared a new music video for their song “Jour 8”, the atmospheric highlight from their self-titled debut album, out now via Chivi Chivi. Hildegard describe the song as “expressing the lasting outrage and trying lassitude that comes with being harassed,” adding “the video shows us reuniting in clarity after fleeing claustrophobic settings and an ominous Hummer.”

To coincide with the video, today at 2pm ET Hildegard will host a livestream performance/AMA on Reddit (r/RedditSessions).

Hildegard have also been confirmed for a February 4, 2022 headline performance at SAT in Montreal, as part of the electronic music festival MUTEK. Tickets on sale now (HERE).

Deland and Ouri recorded Hildegard over just eight days in the studio, uncovering their innate creative connection while developing an intuitive approach to composition and sound. The eight tracks on Hildegard fuse together into a sonic sphere, and are named for each day Deland and Ouri spent together. Deland’s folk background balances against Ouri’s nocturnal world of electronic and dance music. Weightless vocals and aphoristic lyrics hover over kinetic beats and throbbing bass. The meeting place sounds something like dusk, or dawn.

Throughout the album, Deland and Ouri drew inspiration from mystic, healer, composer, and visionary 12th century nun, Hildegard of Bingen. Hildegard was a woman of science, music, and spirituality, as well as a symbol of nurturing strength. In her 12th century presence, she wrote prophecies, poems, and treatises; she experienced otherworldly visions and recorded them, passing them down through generations. Deland and Ouri invoke Hildegard as a carrier of the magic they felt working with each other, the separate entity that was born as they blended together.

Ouri also released her own solo album last month, entitled Frame Of A Fauna.

The two new PUP tracks, “Waiting” and “Kill Something”, were produced by GRAMMY Award winner Peter Katis (Interpol, The National, Kurt Vile). “Waiting”, which features fellow Canadian punk artist Kathryn McCaughey (NOBRO), is a riotous, joyful and ridiculously fun track that has everything you want from a PUP song, and more. Stefan explains why: “‘Waiting’ came about by smashing the heaviest riff Nestor could write with the simplest, most uplifting chorus I could write, just to see what would happen. The results were very quintessentially PUP, in that the song is a flurry of darkness and anger through the joyous lens of four guys just happy to be here, four guys who don’t take themselves seriously enough to make music that doesn’t feel like fun, regardless of the subject matter.”

“Kill Something” is about Stefan’s dog Moose, who loves to destroy his favorite things, and then is sad that those things are destroyed. We feel you, Moose.

TAMI NEILSON COVERS JONI MITCHELL’S “RIVER”

“River” Single Artwork // DOWNLOAD HIGH-RES

Tami Neilson first discovered Joni Mitchell’s Blue as a teenager. "I was on tour with my family band all around Canada and the U.S. and for my birthday one year, my dad gave me the Blue album on CD, I was immediately obsessed.”

That album, Neilson says, "gave me that kind of permission and confidence to become the writer and the artist and the producer that I am today."

For Canadian-born Neilson, the song “River” dives into the pain of homesickness, a sentiment that resonated deeply during her first Christmas living abroad in New Zealand. "Being in the southern hemisphere, the seasons are flipped so it's really it's hot and it's summery, and it's so strange to be decorating your Christmas tree and in shorts and a tank top," she said.

"I remember putting on the Blue album and the song ‘River’ came on and I just immediately started sobbing because I know this song is about regret over a broken relationship.... But for me, it just became this song about homesickness and longing, and the longing was to be home."

The song has taken on more relevance for Tami as the pandemic has kept her from visiting her family in Canada over the past 18 months. Being in Auckland, Tami was able to perform a few shows, including a brief album release tour which culminated in a sold out show at the Civic Theatre which was later released as a concert film.

As well, Tami launched “The Tami Show”, a 12 episode YouTube series filmed entirely from her New Zealand home. Tami’s latest album, CHICKABOOM!, was released in February 2020, and although her world tour was cancelled, the album became Tam’s biggest release to date, with nearly 2M streams, placements in Snowpiercer and Family Law, and mass critical acclaim including rave reviews from Rolling Stone, No Depression, Billboard and more.

CHICKABOOM! also earned Tami her first JUNO Award nomination for Best Contemporary Roots Recording while winning New Zealand’s Best Country Song of the Year for lead single “Hey, Bus Driver” and for Best Country Artist.
