On Friday, Echoes Of…, the new project fronted by the vocals of Andrew Morrison (The Jerry Cans, Terry Uyarak, Aakuluk Music) will release his new album, Euphemisms, out January 26, 2024 on Aakuluk Records. Today, he’s sharing one last single before the release of the album. “Feel Along”, featuring Lovely Things is “a song screaming to the world to be creative / express yourself / feel life and the world,” says Morrison. “I am both cautiously excited and extremely nervous to share these songs with listeners. There are seven million reasons not to play music, share music, open yourself to listeners, to be vulnerable. So much of our society simultaneously values and depends on art but then sets extremely limited parameters on how / what art is valued. I see many artists struggling with this dilemma and more and more putting down their instruments, and be an extension of their voices / perspectives. This is a problem. Support art. support ethical expression. Sit with ideas that you may not understand. Feel along.”

Next month, Morrison will join together with Terry Uyarak for a run of dates in Japan. “Touring still seems to be a unique challenge as Nunavut artists but touring Japan is literally a life long dream,” says Morrison. “It is especially exciting as the tour will be with a beautiful collaborative crew of musicians and circus performers including Uyarak and Maya Cook from Igloolik/artcirq, Mike Thomson and Jaqqi from Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland) and Gisle Henriet (Artcirq) along with my beautiful daughter Viivi who will join us to perform.

“As the Echoes Of… project flows along, the collaborative tour approach is a strange but potentially really wonderful experimental approach to figure out ways to tour in the reality of trying to continue to make music in the world we see today. Japan is the perfect place to try out the first iteration. Echoes Of… Japan.” Full tour dates can be found below.

MORE ABOUT ECHOES OF…
Echoes of... is an approach to creating music that prioritizes collaboration which leads to a mesmerizing auditory journey. The lyrics delve into the heart of life in Nunavut, inviting listeners to explore a day in the life of one of Canada’s most fascinating cities: Iqaluit, Nunavut.

The intricate layers of sound, meticulously crafted by a wide-range of collaborators including James Ungalaq (Northern Haze), Terry Uyarak, Ivaana, Naja P, Jace Lasek (Besnard Lakes), and Maazes, the group draws on a diverse group of skilled instrumentalists and producers to create a sonic landscape that echoes the rugged beauty - and collaborative spirit - of the North. From Nunavut, to Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland), to the Northwest Territories, to Montreal, Echoes of… is a response to increasingly industry-driven musical reality faced in Canada’s north.

Rooted in a deep dedication to collaborative art, the songs by Echoes of… are an exploration of death, loss, love and what life means after it all. Scents of indie rock, folk-pop, and soul-stirring alternative sounds converge to capture the essence of life at the edge of the world.

Echoes of… music is a celebration of the communities, the people, and the stories that live and breathe in modern day Iqaluit. Their songs touch upon the warmth of community, the icy embrace of isolation - whether self-imposed or exerted by outside forces - and the deep connection to nature that shapes daily life.

With a commitment to honouring the past while forging ahead, Echoes of… has become a vessel for both personal introspection and shared empathy. The release of this music is as much a process of grappling with the complexity of human experience while exploring what it means to continue to move through life. Echoes of… hopes to inspire listeners to explore their own creativity, to venture into unknown depths of themselves, while drawing on the resilience and spirit of their communities.

As they step into the public light, Echoes of… seeks to be more than a band; they are the musical representation of life-long relationships between artists in the North. In this way, Echoes of… is a sonic bridge, connecting worlds through melody and emotion, infused with the soul of Nunavut. Echoes of… invites you on an extraordinary expedition into a new plain of heart / music / culture.

DONOVAN WOODS KICKS OFF THE NEW YEAR WITH NEW SINGLE “HOW GOOD”

U.S. TOUR DATES WITH DREW HOLCOMB BEGIN APRIL 2024

This past autumn JUNO Award winning songwriter Donovan Woods completed the last of a busy year of touring, wrapping with U.S dates supporting The Gaslight Anthem, and releasing his first new music of the year, the single “I’m Around”. Delving deep into the complexities of human relationships and our confounding condition, is where Woods excels, and “I’m Around” showed Woods to be in peak form.

With the track Woods hinted that more new material was on the way, and today Donovan returns with “How Good”, a delicate song that sees the artist at his introspective best. Co-written with Steve Robson (James Blunt, Miley Cyrus, Maisie Peters), the tender, piano-driven song was intended as a lullaby for Woods and his wife during a patchy time.

Discussing the single, Woods noted that it was "essentially written for my wife and I, in a year when we sorely needed it. It describes a way of looking at the world that’s probably a little naive. My work puts added stress on us and I’m not the easiest person to be around to begin with, but everything can change in an instant, we all know this.”

On “How Good”, Woods pleads ‘What if we’ve only just begun / What if the only thing we don’t know yet / Is how good it’s gonna get.’ Woods says “we most often think about it in terms of bad news. What if things get good? Can we even handle that?” This contemplation of how change, good or bad, shows a songwriter at his contemplative best.

As an in-demand songwriter whose work has been recorded by the likes of Tim McGraw (“Portland, Maine”) and Lady A’s Charles Kelley (“Leaving Nashville”), Woods has been venturing beyond the singer-songwriter scene where he first cut his teeth. Equally at home in folk and country, he has worked with songwriters such as Tom Douglas, Lori McKenna, Brandy Clark, Ashley Monroe, Dustin Christensen, and Ed Robertson (Barenaked Ladies).

Woods' featured vocals on Dabin & Nurko’s “When This Is Over” veered into anthemic dance pop, and yet he still sounded right at home. On “IOWA”, Woods found a kindred spirit in Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Aoife O’Donovan for a pastoral meditation on dreaming of a place you know doesn’t exist.

Each of these collaborations has highlighted a budding truth about Woods: As respected as he is as a solo artist, he’s evolving and upending our expectations of how his music sounds. His songs have grown more dimensional, emboldened by new sonic landscapes, reminding us that classic songwriting transcends genre.

Woods will head back out on the road this spring across the U.S. on a co-headlining tour with songwriter Drew Holcomb. All dates below. Tickets available at: www.donovanwoods.net/tour
