Today, Vancouver native and JUNO Award-nominated artist young friend returns with a jangly new indie-rock jam “golden rule.” After teasing the song on TikTok and Instagram, fans have been clamoring to hear the entire track constantly commenting with the Maple Leaf emoji in reference to the first lyric, ‘She saved my number to her phone with a maple leaf, I've got her name and then her city in parentheses…’

There's a smokey, playful energy to this tale relishing a fling. "We don't love each other, that's alright. Yeah, we're just each other time to times," croons Drew Tarves' fuzzed vocals over driving, riffy guitars. Drew worked with friend and co-producer David Marinelli (fresh off the new FINNEAS album) to artfully craft this follow-up to recent singles, “boyfriend material” and “the real deal.”, both of which are currently receiving support from SiriusXM Canada.

Drew explains: "This song is about casual relationships and how connection doesn't always have to be so deep. Sometimes it's alright just enjoy each others company and move on…"

young friend is coming off a string of West Coast tour dates, including an LA show with fellow artists FINNEAS, Remi Wolf, and Adam Melchor in attendance, and an opener slot with Royel Otis, where he played to a crowd in the thousands at the PNE Forum in Vancouver.

MORE ABOUT YOUNG FRIEND
Drew Tarves' music as young friend feels classic and immediate all at once, capturing the nostalgia of post-adolescence while diving deep into a pool of self-reflection. His next project is bursting with big feelings and perfect golden light. It feels messy and raw, like long summer nights piling into the back of a pickup truck with all your friends, sprinting to catch the last summer sunset, taking off your shoes and dancing in the grass, falling, getting back up.

A trained dancer for most of his adolescence, the 24-year-old Vancouver native switched artistic disciplines after spending time jamming with his musician friends. "I found out very quickly that I loved it," he recalls. "It was my favorite thing to do." Armed with a guitar and a laptop, Tarves started hashing out early songwriting attempts on GarageBand as he found his own style that suited him: "It was all about experimenting while trying to find what worked for me."

In 2022, Tarves released his indie-pop debut EP HOW DID WE GET HERE?, and quickly followed it up with a sophomore in 2023 titled scaredy cat. 2024 brought in his first Canadian and international touring, as well as a JUNO Award nomination. Now, young friend is prepping his debut full-length that’s produced by friend and frequent collaborator David Marinelli (FINNEAS, Ashe, Wallice, spill tab). The album pulls inspiration from a multitude of places and artists, landing in this comfy space of new and familiar while also making room for self-discovery. It will take you along for the ride of your life. “This album takes notes from a lot of different artists and bands that I really love, and as a result, it is this sort of genre-bending fever dream album.”

Today, Clothesline From Hell, the Toronto based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Adam LaFramboise, is sharing the new single, “Capital C”, finishing out a year that saw the release of his debut EP, Soon We’ll All Be Smoking, and the introduction of his diverse brand of alternative music fusing acoustic guitar, breakbeats, samples and his unique vocal style.

Adam LaFramboise continues to reveal new dimensions to his sound, releasing the brooding acoustic ballad "Nice enough words" as the follow up single in October. Now with "Capital C," he and frequent collaborator Matty Tavares (Matty, BADBADNOTGOOD) deliver a song that sounds as if it came from the glory days of college radio. Matty's piano bounces across Adam's clever lyrics, creating something that feels chaotic, but timeless.

"All things pass," he says, as if reflecting on a summer gone by in the early breeze of Fall. "But cool is back in again."

TAURO, the collaboration between jazz pianist and singer-songwriter Cynthia Tauro and Brendan Canning (Broken Social Scene), found its genesis in the summer of 2022 during the uncertainty of the pandemic. Brendan coming from the indie rock world, and Cynthia from the Toronto jazz world, having just released her debut album. Today, they are following up their debut single “Great Minds”, with the groovy down-tempo track, “You Got Something”, out now via Arts & Crafts.

"You Got Something" is about always leading with your heart, and aligning yourself with the true people who are meant to be in your life. Cynthia’s voice carries a sense of vulnerability, as she sings about stumbling into something she never really wanted and most of all, didn’t need.

MORE ABOUT TAURO
Cynthia Tauro has been active in the Toronto music scene for the better part of the last decade, playing primarily in the jazz circuit. Shortly after completing her degree in jazz performance at Carleton University, she released a debut full-length titled Moments. It was met with modest acclaim but more importantly it introduced her to some heavy hitters in the scene like Guido Basso, Robi Botos and Terry Clarke.

Fast forward a couple years and a few hundred gigs later, including a stint in the stage production of Mama Mia, Cynthia was looking for some new and untapped avenues to explore. She sparked a friendship with Brendan Canning in 2022 at Field Trip Music Festival in downtown Toronto and immediately felt a spark as the music of Lucy Dacus played in the background. The conversation quickly turned to writing songs together and it was clear a path was being laid out.

Cynthia began coming over to Brendan’s home for impromptu jams while the two tried to figure each other’s musical worlds out. In Brendan’s words, “It wasn’t until Cynthia started playing what she called ‘intervals’ that I truly started to see where we could connect on a deeper level.” Those ‘intervals’ would eventually become the song “Great Minds”.

This fruitful partnership is already scheming for the future. Multiple recording sessions with Spencer Muscio (Jessie Reyez), Kintaro Akyama (Birds of Bellwoods), Juwayon Clarke (Daniel Caesar), and Little Scream mean there’s more music on the way in the very near future.
