TOUR DATES BEGIN THIS APRIL

Jarvis takes his time with "Gold Filigree," plucking the bass as keys fall like raindrops, leaving plenty of space for his lyrics to land on your heart. Jarvis recommends this song for people who like "fornication, love-making, procreation, steak frites, Prince, Al Green, and Charlotte Day Wilson" — and he's not wrong.” CBC Music on Gold Filigree

“With the ramshackle majesty of a Prince demo, ‘Gold Filigree’ still feels as polished as the titular jewelry, and twinkles with admiration for a lover who’s so well put together, it could only be divine symmetry.” —The FADER, “Songs You Need In Your Life”

"Angelic folk led by an acoustic guitar strum and harmonies that would make Crosby, Stills and Nash want to join in." — Billboard Canada on “The Knife in Me”

Today, Yves Jarvis — the moniker of Canadian musician Jean-Sébastien Yves Audet — releases his new album, All Cylinders via Next Door Records, unveils the video for “One Gripe”, and announces North American tour dates starting this April through June. Warm and vivid, “One Gripe” is about airing one’s grievances. Of the track, Jarvis says: "Though it does not go unappreciated, loved ones dish out hard truths when I just want to hear myself talk.” He sings: ‘Talked all night / I needed your advice / One gripe / You don’t tell me what I want to hear / You keep it real.’ Jarvis recommends the track for fans of roller rinks, John Mayer, The Doobie Brothers, and Daft Punk.

On All Cylinders, Yves Jarvis expresses a brazen songcraft and pure musicianship: 11 tracks he played himself, without a single additional contributor, transforming his three-time Polaris Music Prize-longlisted vision into the stuff of verses and choruses, hooks and hits, which vibrates like a cosmic anthropology. At home, in the studio, at subletted apartments in Montreal and L.A.—he’d roll out of bed and get straight to work, plugging his gear into a half-broken laptop. Whereas once he had fetishized analog tape, now Jarvis appreciated the value of working without any such preciousness: much of All Cylinders was recorded on bare-bones Audacity, sans plugins, channeling the spirit of Paul McCartney’s II.

Jarvis is an omnivore, and All Cylinders smashes together a stunning array of influences: Serge Gainsbourg, Judee Sill, Sheryl Crow, Captain Beefheart, Jackson Browne, Throbbing Gristle, Ray Charles, Brian Eno, Fleetwood Mac, Panic at the Disco…  All this is distilled into tunes that feel like taking sips from a cup, or drags from a cigarette—vivid and self-contained tunes that are just two or three minutes long. “I feel like this is the least contrived thing I’ve ever done,” Jarvis declares. Lyrics that matter. Vocals up front, where people will actually hear them. “If something’s true to you,” he explains, “it’s probably true to a million other people.”

MORE PRAISE FOR YVES JARVIS

“When you first tune in, you’ll find a funk-bop that’ll perk the ear of even the most casual Thundercat fan… then it gives way to a folk troubadour moment that’ll have you reaching for your acoustic guitar and hiking boots.” — KCRW, on “The Knife in Me”

“[All Cylinders] is a multi-genre odyssey… Chasing the tail of Gainsbourg or Bacharach, Jarvis cannot avoid being a bit more erotic and ornate than them, with hints at the portable blues and post-D’Angelo R&B of L’Rain and Nick Hakim… now there is a conscious, sincere engagement with the classics Jarvis clearly adores—Paul McCartney, Love, Stevie Wonder, and Prince.” — Aquarium Drunkard

"If there is one experimental record you listen to this year, it should be All Cylinders. From start to finish, it is mesmerizingly creative and full of charmingly catchy tunes." — Out Front Magazine

Singer/songwriter, film composer and pianist Patrick Watson, and singer/songwriter Charlotte Cardin, have released a new collaborative song today, “Gordon in the Willows”. Haunting in its beauty and simplicity, the song unfurls over lightly arpeggiating piano and Cardin’s breathtaking voice covering a range of multiple octaves, until it disintegrates with a pulse rattling bass and echoing drums.

Watson, Polaris Music Prize recipient and Cardin, JUNO Award winner - wrote the lyrics together, and recorded the song last fall at Lost River Studios, in a rural lake village in Quebec, outside of Montreal where Watson has previously hosted his own music festival.

Last night, Watson and Cardin pulled off a winter gift performance that was broadcast on Patrick Watson socials channels and live from ICI Musique, to get through the cold Canadian winter. Under the cover of darkness, they delivered a mesmerizing performance from the top of Montreal’s cold Mont-Royal. Mysterious spotlights cut through the night sky, drawing curious eyes to the mountain as fans around the city tried to figure out the secret location from their windows.  Watch a short clip later today HERE.

Watson and Cardin have collaborated in the past, co-writing “Next To You” featured on Cardin’s 2023 album. They shared a live version on Instagram that has over 4 million views, and Watson is also working with Cardin on her new album.

"A few months ago, Patrick played me a piano piece—just the music, no words—and the moment I heard it, it felt like the whisper of an old friend.” – Charlotte Cardin

“Charlotte and I had this magical music moment together. I wanted a song that felt like it came from a long time ago” – Patrick Watson

Last November, Watson shared “Silencio,” featuring rising French singer-songwriter November Ultra. It was the first preview of a forthcoming project inspired by Watson losing his voice, and not being able to sing or talk, for nearly three months. “Silencio” explored the impressions that came to him during that time, and led Patrick to this new creative endeavor in which he would invite different artists to sing on new songs, inspired by this period of silence. More information on the project, which will include “Gordon In The Willows” as well, will be announced soon.

Watson’s most recent full-length album is 2022’s Better in the Shade, which draws on literary inspirations and released after his decade-old single “Je te laisserai des mots” went viral on social media (the song has gone Platinum in several territories and has crossed 1 billion streams). Watson’s recent collaborators include Georgio and Hania Rani, and last year released “Perfect Day (Piano Komorebi Version)”, which he recorded for Wim Wenders’ Oscar-nominated film Perfect Days.

In January, Ken Yates shared two new singles, “Cataclysmic End” and “My Love For You Is A Straight Line”, his first new music since his highly acclaimed 2022 LP, Cerulean. Today, he shares “Perennials”, “a song for [his] late mother who passed in 2021,” says Yates. “I wanted so desperately to write this song for my last album Cerulean, but for some reason it was just never right. I think I had to live the past three years in order to finally write it. Some songs force you to live a bit more life before you can write them.”

A standout, stripped-back track, "Perennials" is a rare kind of song: so honest and specific, you can't help but hear your own stories of grief within it. Yates writes movingly of his mother, speaking directly to her at times, as he reflects on her legacy and the ways he is learning to live life without her by his side, but with a presence still keenly felt. As Yates writes in the song, "When you become a memory you can never lose a fight / Empty out your closet but keep all the clothes you like / Salt still in the wound / Still I always think of you / Every time the perennials bloom."

After studying at the Berklee College of Music, Yates released The Backseat EP in 2011, followed by his full-length debut Twenty-Three in 2013. He won the Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award in 2014 for his song "The One That Got Away" and released his second album, Huntsville, in 2016, produced by Jim Bryson. By 2017, Yates was making waves in folk with his poignant songwriting, winning the awards for Canadian Folk Music Award for both Songwriter of the Year and New Artist of the Year.

In 2022 Yates released his most realized set of songs yet with his acclaimed fourth full length album Cerulean. Channeling pain into beauty, the Jim Bryson produced album is a breathtaking triumph of the human spirit. The cool-hued Cerulean captured the artist’s intimate reckoning as he grieved his dying mother, giving listeners a vivid window into the rollercoaster of intense thoughts and emotions that accompany such a personal, yet universal experience resulting in a transcendent record that surges with tightly held energy and intimate moments.

"It’s another lyrical vessel of yearning and emotional reckoning matched up with strummed acoustic guitar, further setting the scene for what Cerulean has in store." - FLOOD

"Cerulean is more astral than backroads, a soundscape that gives Yates room to ruminate, approaching the concert hall atmospherics of The War on Drugs, Andy Shauf, and Big Thief." - The Creek 100.9

“Yates has now asserted himself as one of Canada’s most unique folk artists with a true knack for effective songwriting.” - Canadian Beats

"An enchanting song of acceptance and resolve, Ken Yates’ “The Big One” is a soothing and stirring apocalyptic lullaby that finds refuge in the face of life’s fragility." - Atwood Magazine
