Today, summersets, the duo of Kalle Mattson and his childhood friend and long-time bandmate Andrew Sowka, are sharing the new single, “Move Back Home”, the first new music since their debut album, small town story

“Move Back Home” is about “the housing crisis in Canada, and specifically how our generation (millennials) have had to settle for a life that looks markedly different from the ones our parents led,” says Mattson. “The characters in the song are a composite of so many of our friends in their early 30s who are moving back to our hometown (Sault Ste. Marie, ON), after living in larger cities, because “moving back home” is their only real option of ever owning a home or starting a family. I’ve made peace that I will probably never own a home, what was an option for previous generations is not one for me, but I wanted to put that reality into a song where the characters are ‘settling’ and ‘settling down’, both for each other and in the larger context of their lives.”

summersets is the new duo from JUNO Award and Polaris Music Prize nominated singer-songwriter Kalle Mattson, and longtime collaborator Andrew Sowka. Influenced by the storytelling of John Prine and delivered with the delicacy of Simon & Garfunkel, their debut full-length, small town story, was produced by Jim Bryson (Kathleen Edwards, The Weakerthans) and nominated for both a 2024 Ontario Folk Music Award and a 2025 Canadian Folk Music Award. They are currently in the studio working on their followup LP once again with Jim Bryson, Peter Von Althen (Skydiggerrs) and Christine Bougie (Bahamas), due out next year.

Today, Begonia (the stage name of Alexa Dirks) releases her new album, Fantasy Life, a collection of thirteen songs written under the heat of the sun in Los Angeles, California and then recorded during the dead of winter in Winnipeg together with deadmen (Matt Peters and Matt Schellenberg). It’s an album about the mundane and the magical, the delusional and the hopeful, the thrilling and the crushing. It’s the promise of spring and then all the snow melts to reveal piles of glittering garbage. It’s watching bright balloons float away into the clouds. It’s a slimy fleshy worm feeding a beautiful garden. A place to escape to but not to live forever.

MORE ABOUT BEGONIA + FANTASY LIFE
Begonia is your best friend. She’s the whimsical fairy on your shoulder making you feel all at once comfortable to be yourself while simultaneously making you think wtf is this fairy doing here and what is she wearing. With a voice that compels you to feel everything deeper, she sings like she’s calling you into her world. Sure, on the surface it may simply look like a world overtaken by flowers, colour and lightness but go deeper and it’s also a world that doesn’t shy away from the dark. It’s a world that invites you to be exactly who you are without shame.

Begonia has many stories to tell, many iterations of life to walk you through, and she takes her fans on the journey with a stumbling grace and an uncanny wit. A true sight to behold, sometimes clunky but always beautifully and refreshingly entertaining. Begonia crafts some of the most honest pop music out there. With her new record Fantasy Life, she's simply at the top of her game. There’s more risk, more complex vocals, more pop diva mania, more feeling, more truth, and more fantasy.

“There’s a spirit of freedom to this record that was such a big part of the songwriting sessions I had in LA with deadmen (Matt Peters and Matt Schellenberg),” says Dirks. “I spent a little over a month in total with them writing this record every day and it’s the most RIGHT in songwriting sessions that I've ever felt. Everything felt so easy and fun and that has never happened to me quite like that before. This freedom allowed me to go to more complex places with my voice and in my lyrics than I have in the past. I feel like I’ve grown so much in my sound and my confidence in the last few years and I know that reflects in this record.”

Begonia’s bold sound and style, combined with an intimate connection with her audience, invite you to feel everything more deeply, making you feel at once seen and a part of her world that is both brilliantly vibrant and unafraid of the shadows. It’s a space where you’re not just a listener, but a confidante, invited to feel everything more deeply and be exactly who you are, without shame.

Her longtime artistic collaboration with music producers deadmen is a central part of her career. The duo has produced, played, and written on nearly all of Begonia’s releases, and they provide her a crucial space to be vulnerable and take risks. The collaboration is anchored by an impenetrable emotional and creative connection.

Begonia launched her solo career in 2017 with the EP Lady in Mind, featuring the #1 CBC Radio single "Juniper". Her critically acclaimed full-length albums Fear (2019) and Powder Blue (2023) have earned her two JUNO Award nominations and two Polaris Music Prize nominations. Recognized by NPR as an ‘Artist You Need to Know’, Begonia is celebrated by her core fans for her powerful live performances, which Noisey describes as “obliterating the misery from this world one live performance at a time." Her captivating stage presence has opened doors for her to perform at clubs, theatres, and festivals globally, connecting with audiences worldwide.

Today, Montreal-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Ouri releases her new album Daisy Cutter. Coinciding with the release, Ouri unveils the music video for “Blush,” a self-directed and edited visual shot by Maiko Rodrig that finds her speeding through Paris at dusk in the backseat of a convertible. Throughout Daisy Cutter, Ouri builds a world out of a radical experimentation with desire, discipline, and intimacy. What began as a practice of letting everything flow without judgment grew into a study of freedom’s contradictions: the pull between safety and risk, commitment and release, control and surrender. The album’s title, Daisy Cutter, carries this duality. Borrowed from a bomb, devastating and absolute, it also evokes the delicate act of trimming a flower. Ouri keeps both in play, moving between sweeping force and precise gestures. Out of this tension arises music that feels both intimate and insurgent.

To celebrate the album release Ouri is performing a headline show in her hometown of Montreal tonight followed by a performance in Toronto tomorrow. Ouri is also announcing a string of tour dates across the UK and Europe this winter beginning in London December 2nd and continuing on to Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris and more. Find full tour routing below. Ouri is also featured as one of the faces of Versace’s Fall eyewear campaign, which was recently shot during fashion week.

The new album includes recently released singles Paris” feat. Oli XL, album title track “Daisy Cutter,” and Behave ! featuring Charlotte Day Wilson. Ouri engineers, mixes, and masters everything herself, shaping tactile and often nocturnal sounds that shift just as they seem to settle. Across the album Ouri places herself within a community that feels at once real and imagined. Around her, friends and collaborators assemble as comrades, an underground militia intent on cultivating a future sound. Longtime allies including Mobilegirl, Oli XL, Bby Eco, Charlotte Day Wilson, Bamo Yendé, Cecil Believe, Duncan Hood, Jonah Yano, Sea Oleena and Cowboy Lansky join Ouri across the album, their contributions recorded in borrowed spaces, apartments, and other non-studio settings, exploring various ways of being in the world that allow for the contradictions of fortification and desire.

Daisy Cutter follows Ouri’s highly praised debut album Frame of a Fauna, which was shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize, as well as her collaborative project Jour 1596 with Helena Deland as Hildegard, that The FADER described as, “A blessed union of avant-garde R&B saints.” Since the release of her debut album Ouri has toured across North America with celebrated artists including Yaeji, Tirzah, Charlotte Day Wilson and Smerz.
